This happened to my son, who is very into art. He received this as a gift last year and he was over the moon excited. The day ended in silent tears and frustration when he realized there was no app available. It’s very misleading.

Ah. I’m so sorry! I hope it didn’t discourage him. If he’s into animation “The Animators Survival Kit” is the book that every beginner uses and it’s available on amazon for pretty cheap I believe. I actually teach animation and it’s what I used to learn myself!

Pencil 2d is a free 2d animation program on PC. Flipaclip is a good one for mobile. If he's into 3d animation blender is hard to learn but it's free and has lots of tutorials!

This is why I am always excited when you make another video: even when everything goes wrong and you have every reason to be angry, you try to stay positive and make the best of it and laugh about the situation. And this positivity always reminds me to stay positive as well. So, even if you don't get an animation app, you got an impromtu coloring book and an chance to show your skills in stop motion animation. And the animation looks really good, so Adam clearly hasn't forgotten much about the process. And maybe the "Kechup" fairy gets an cameo in Steph's Cereal Fairies series one of these days :)

This reminds me of when activision shut down the Live part of Guitar hero live, severely limiting the available songs you could play compared to what you could previously. At least with that I’m pretty sure they had stopped selling it by then. But it is pretty messed up to sell things with parts that they can just decide to shut down and make the product basically useless.

To be fair, I think you did great with what you had available, it's a pity that crayola removed the app though... But it might be an issue to just keep an app in the stores without constant updates, that way it would only work on very old system versions for both android and ios

I think the impromptu stop motion worked quite well! I love the little rustle noises as the little dude goes back and forth. Maybe you can use the figure for posing reference in the future, then it's not a waste.

I’m at the beginning of the video and i’m loving the dramatic thumbnail already. This also unlocked a childhood memory for me of this stop motion animation kit my parents got for me that i could never use properly because the software for it was for windows and we had a mac lol. Edit: Wow I got further in the video and smh I am angery at crayola for sure if they are going to keep selling the old books they should make their “2.0” app work with them at least. Excited to see you use viviva colorsheets though, I really enjoy mine I love the bright colors they have Also it probably does cost money to have an app on the app store, I would have to look into it for what it is nowadays but years ago I was looking into making stickers for text messaging to put in just the sticker section of the app store which required you to buy like an apple developers membership of $100 per year to post any apps or stickers even if the app would be free but I don’t think the amount of apps you could have would be limited but it could very well be different now and I wouldn’t be surprised if they raised the price.

HERES HOW TO FIX THE APP ISSUE!! *maybe lol Try making a new Apple ID based in the US, it could be that the app isn’t available in the UK. If that doesn’t work then get an older device that hasn’t been updated, Ive used an old iPod touch to download apps that no longer run with current IOS

The real star of this video is the pair of you two! I believe Crayola has hit rock bottom! And they continue to make sales of products from their brand recognition alone! Keeping the app live would cost money for Crayola as they'd need to keep updating the code to work as operating systems are updated. It's a huge issue with live service games when game companies decide to cut their losses and then players are left with a product they paid for but are unable to play. Highly unethical.

I helped my brother do simple stop-motion with Bionicle characters (basically very customizable "action figures" by Lego) when we were kids. =) If you want, I bet nail polish remover would remove the squares (registration marks for the nonexistent app, I assume) and the Crayola logo from the posable guy. Then you could paint him with poscas =)

I never trust these kinds of toys with apps or external things that you need to get from online. They almost always go defunct and then you're stuck with a useless toy. Back in the day when we got stuff like this, they sent us a program with it on a CD. You didn't need to go on the internet to download something. Not that the programs were 100% fool proof - I mean a lot of things from the 90s can't be loaded on modern day computers anymore. Or you could lose them. But at least they were reliable and always available - it wasn't left up to a whims of a company whether they wanted to keep supporting the product or not. I have some CDs with games from many years ago by companies that have long since gone out of business and I can still load the game and enjoy it!

It’s got to the point now where your videos are art about art. Well done on the delivery of the whole thing. The stop motion was cute. And the editing a masterpiece. It made me remember one stopmotion I made years ago. I think I still have the images but not the software to run it. But I expect I could upload the images into something current. It was actually very easy, just as Adamo demonstrated. Definitely encourage everyone to have a go. I think the key requirement is a bright light and something to immobilise the camera. Then you can do anything you like.
