Everyone's a Nordschleife expert when at the wheel of their computer! These keyboard warriors think that you can drive at 100% straight off the start line. I've been on a wet rack on a Track Day with my normal unmodified road car on normal road tyres and was passing a lot of race prepared cars that would normally blitz my car on a dry track. There was an incident at Silverstone many years ago in which there was a sudden downpour of rain and many cars went off track. The 4 wheel drive Audi safety car was sent onto the track and the leader of the race in a 330+ kph Lister Jaguar XJ-S got onto his radio and asked his pit crew to get the safety car to slow down as he could not keep up with it!

Not slow or inexperienced as people seem to think. Take note of which corners he is 'slow' through, up to the point where the BMW crashes. They are the corners that are often gotten badly wrong, he's anticipating an incident ahead (highly likely on the first lap on a damp track with a varied field). Better to sit back a bit and have room to avoid an incident than T-bone straight into the side of someone looping it. He's also very aware that the other drivers on the track are not all alert/experienced enough to be watching their mirrors, and may well just turn into him if he goes for a move, he makes sure he can get it done before he starts. Apart from that, he's doing what he needs to in order to hold his position, maintaining the racing line where he can, and always sitting in a position that allows him to take advantage of any mistakes from the car in front. Also cruises into the corners a bit so that he can get a good exit onto any straights, as he's not being baulked mid corner by slower cars in front. You can see how much more pace he picks up when he has clear track in front after the BMW crashes, in a generally higher speed section of the (damp) track - tyres are starting to work, doesn't have to worry about unexpected obstacles in front, and has a feel for the state of the track on the day. And as to why he maintains a high gear after the BMW crashes, looks to me like he's trying to see in the mirror whether the driver of the BMW is likely to be ok, or whether he's getting cleaned up by any of the cars behind... May not necessarily be outright fast enough to get podium places, but is the type of driver who in a normal race would likely place top ten often and possibly take the championship away from those with a first, a second, and a fistful of DNFs.

I have never had any track experience (although it's one of my dreams, rally is up first) but the nurburgring is a tight track with a lot of curves! It's easy to screw up. Just take a look at the videos, people do crash and a lot! There are many tracks that are smaller with more space available and much less curves, basically "easier" loops.

+Trucker No-Lifer That's how most drivers race in changeable conditions at the 'ring. It's the 1st lap, you don't push like crazy in a 4 hour race, no reason to risk binning it for the sake of some 4 - 5 seconds gained. I am no expert, but more often than not in long-ish races ( i wanted to say endurance races , but 4H is kind of split sprint-endurance ) people play the "rather safe than sorry" game.

For me, hearing my GT2 RS always makes me feel so alive.....But more than the tone broadcasting from its titanium exhaust, 4.0 liter naturally aspirated flat six, 9,000 rpm redline pitch it can reach, it's the speed at which the revs climb. It's a rate that's apparently immune to which gear I'm in. Peek torque comes at a seemingly high 6,000 rpm, giving 347 lb.ft. Despite the "peaky numbers", the curve is fat enough to keep me feeeling nothing other than strong pull throughout. the rev range.

Looks like the BMW's bonnet (hood for my american friends) catches failed as the bonnet is up when the BMW driver moves to the grass. This Porsche driver is clearly a 'gentleman driver'. The proof is found in the indecisive throttle application, lack of commitment in positioning & excessively early brake application from the start.
@ak540i211 жыл бұрын
How does that make him a gentleman driver. It seems he is just doing what others would: try not to hit a car moving across the entire lane while at speed.
@Stuntman17511 жыл бұрын
You seem to forget that the Nurburgring is a narrow track and the distance traveled needed to get to the pits is enormous. Every race in the Ring has to be done like it's a 24h race, because if you break something or have a flat tire halfway around the track, the race is over for you.

I'll try to be constructive: To me, it seems that you brake somewhat too early (and not hard enough), and also you tend to play a little bit too much with the throttle before apex, re-applying and re-lifting which makes it less smooth. Other than that, it looks great !
