If it helps, I was stuck on a checkpoint at a small town airport in the middle of nowhere North Carolina as a 17 yrs old E-4 until my MOS school hold resolved. The last day I was on the CP before 2 days leave and school, I was posted on the forward inspection stop... At 0600 a big white 80's sedan come speeding into the concrete barrier directly in front of where I was standing, the driver jumped out with a shotgun. I started pulling up the only weapon I was allowed to carry, a M9 pistol, and then I woke up being loaded into a deuce and 1/2 on a stretcher. The E-3 that was my backup had mag dumped his M9 and the only round that missed the bottom half of the split-door of the shack, shattered my rear upper right armor plate from 15 foot away. It terrified the guy, that just escaped the mental ward, and he instantly gave up. Then the a$$hole that shattered my shoulder, got promoted to E-5 and transferred to a new unit before I got out of rehab, and nobody would tell me what unit it was. I got a damn good conduct shut up metal and another 6 month delay for school. I was in from 99Apr - 08Mar and I didn't see anyone except for one E-7 get a purple heart. I was able to bring home a unmodified, numbers matching 1917 Remington M1891. The previous owner didn't need it anymore and my Captain let me keep it because it was to long for me to reach the trigger with the muzzle in my mouth.

One of the wildest things I've seen was someone here on KZbin from Europe who went to Venezuela and walked to America with people. The amount who were going to _Canada_ was shocking Canada has a much more open immigration policy to help offset their demographic slump, so the walkers would rather run though America hand become Canadian these days lmao Also, I agree we need to reform the legal immigration system pretty quickly, those "military age males" are a population that's getting smaller and smaller in America every year. People just aren't having kids like in the past, and our economy needs working age people who are willing to fill the shortfall. We had a big statue in NYC back in the day just for immigration... You wanna have some fun and make doing the ASVAB more interesting? When I did the MEPPS ASVAB, I was already near the bottom of my FOURTH (4th) Monster BFG can, and it took me 15 minutes to finish scoring a 92. Pair that with the fact that there was a couple of valley girl types that took the entire hour, but they were getting yelled at by a duo of marines, apparently they both scored a 3 (which meant one was cheating to get the exact same answers). The most amusing thing I've heard a marine yell at a crying girl was, "HOW THE HELL DID YOU SCORE A THREE? HUH? YOU FAILED ON PURPOSE, RIGHT? SAY IT! SAY IT, MOTHERFUCKER! THERE'S NO WAY TO GET LESS THAN 10 UNLESS YOU KNOW THE QUESTIONS, EVEN THE DUMBEST ONES WILL GET 10 IF THEY CHOOSE NOTHING BUT -C-, AND A HIGHER SCORE IF THEY CHOSE ANY OTHER LETTER!" I will keep laughing at that chewing out to my grave.

44:18 one of my favorite songs talks about this. It's a shanty-type sea-farer's song called "Bones in the Ocean" by The Longest Johns --- "As the souls of the dead live for'er in my mind As I live all the years that they left me behind I'll stay on the shore but still gaze at the sea I remember the fallen and they think of me For our souls in the ocean together will be" The best way to honor their memory is to live well and with love - when you are reunited in the afterlife, your life story ought to be one you're excited to tell them and reflect on proudly

As a natural born US citizen, I don't have a huge issue with people that want to immigrate here and are coming in with a patriotic to the USA mindset, but that clearly isn't the totality or even the majority of the people coming over the border and immigrating here both legally and illegally. I live in a small town that has a LOT of both legal and illegal immigrants here and I can't recall ever seeing one that was waving a US flag around or had a US flag decal on their truck. You see nothing but Mexican flags everywhere and dudes walking around in Walmart with MS13 tattoos. The only two high speed chases I can recall in this sleepy little community were both perpetrated by dudes who snuck across our border. The last high speed chase happened about three days ago and the guy wrapped his car loaded with drugs around a tree and died in the hospital after receiving tens of thousands of dollars in medical care at taxpayer expense. Noone even talks about the effect of injecting millions more laborers into an economy has on wages overall (the effect absolutely hammers the lowest wage earners and reaches farther up the economic chain than most would understand).

@@Jorge-jh9lo If you aren't here 100% legally you AREN'T a good one. You can't violate our laws in any way and say you are good. That isn't how it works. If you had immigrated here legally, I would welcome you with open arms as a brother.

What you do is appreciated. Having anything to do with the border has to be a profoundly difficult job.

For anyone curious, when Brandon said habeas corpus I'm pretty sure he meant posse comitatus which is about it being unconstitutional to use the military in a civilian policing role.

This podcast always gets me to laugh and put a smile on my face every episode and that’s hard to do when you’re in a dead end job that bores you to a numb zombie.
