Thanks for featuring my battle Apollo! To clear some things up the battle you missed was the sacred band sallying out through a small secret passage and when i noticed it I peeled away a praetorian guard and socii extraordinary unit and the sacred band was rid off after trying to capture a tower. Thanks for all the tips like moving the artillery closer and dismounting cav and I'll try to send in more tactical smaller battles in the future.

The Chrome Knight I’ve switched school systems (homeschool to public to private) a couple times and pretty much the only history I’ve gotten to learn is 1800’s onward. I did some very basic stuff in like 3rd grade but that’s about it. I find modern history, especially American, to be incredibly boring. Probably because my dad got his masters in U.S. history and I’ve learned a lot from him, but I just don’t really enjoy it. I’m very excited to take a shit ton of medieval and classical history classes in college.

@19:15 The Carthaginian pikes were slaughtered by their own archers from behind. The advancing Roman melee units stopped short on lower ground and used the terrain, causing the Carthaginian archers to lower the angle of their aim and fire through their own front line to hit the enemy below. Pretty sneaky.

I mean, how can this here not be the winner of siege week? It had everything a siege needs... Good flow of battle control by the attacker, attacking at all sides, balancing well his flanks, protecting his troops whit testudo, moving archers at the right time and using their ammo at the right targets... The defender played also played too classy, using his elites correctly (that purple on purple action tho), putting his back against the wall at the very end to avoid the general flanking... Both players made excellent use of their generals by the way... They had good reactions at all times... And as always a remarkable cover by the host pixie poo making everything very clear, immersive and cinematic. Aw man how I wish more people were into this game! It would make an awesome e-sport. Anyways you know who I'm voting for... Solid siege, 5/7, props to players

That general charge was the ballsiest play I've seen in a while. Would've tried to hammer/anvil the romans sent to cut him off myself (especially since they faced away from the pikes) but can see why he went with another juicy archer charge.

Ok, so I found your KZbin channel about 2-3 years ago. And I was looking for a good strategy game when I found I was pretty good in them. When I went to recommend one day, I saw verdun battle replay, I went to you channel and it turns out it was total war. When I found out there is a time total war cause I love Sparta wars and Greek mythology. (Greek freak my fav Greek god is Apollo)

The bending pila was introduced by Augustus and used during the Empire period. During the Republican period of Roman history the pila was not designed to bend in order to make the shields useless but it would bend in a way in which it wouldn't be thrown back at the Romans. Awesome videos btw.

In my campaign the battle for carthage was the most anti climactic thing ever, after 125 turns i finally made my way to catthage only for theme to counter attack me during the siege and me detroying their army. Siege was literly defended by two half dead garrisons of plebs

Pilum bends and shields can be used,it was like when legions throughs the pilum it bends so that the enemy cant use the pilum back on the romans,it not shields lol

Both are true, Pila could penetrate wooden sheilds, bend and therefore make the sheilds cumbersome and unweildy.

At the begining of the battle the carthaginians failed to utilize the shape of the initial defense wall. Any Roman troops arriving from The siege towers are trapped between the wall and the carthaginians. A pincer movement elephant charge from both sides would have ended the initial battle fairly quickly. The left and the right wing of the Roman units inside the walls would have collapsed forming a new carthaginian wing to close in on the center. At that point all of the ranged units on the carthaginians side should have reorganized to tighten the noose around all checkpoints.

the pila is designed to penterate a shield deep to hit whos holding it, and then it gets bent from it being stuck while running forward which ends up making whos holding the shield discard it

the pilum did not bend, but a wooden pin broke at the point where the iron and wood came together so you couldn't throw it back

You're incorrect on the pilas, they were meant to bend so they couldn't be used against them, not so that the shields were unusable even if that was a factor, easily fixed though by breaking the wooden handle from the metal alleviating any issues the bent pila would cause for them movement wise or defense wise.
