A friend of mine went through a similar situation like the guy in the reddit story that never had relations with his wife. He married his now ex wife when he was 20, they both grew up in conservative Christian homes and were taught to wait until marriage for sex and all that bs. So when the wedding night came his wife was literally too scared to have sex with him because all her life she had been told sex was a bad sinful thing. Unfortunately my friend's ex wife never got any help to move past the issue so they separated and then divorced. Other things were in wrong in their relationship before they got married and that was just the last straw for mt friend. I feel really bad of women who grew up in conservative Christian households because there's always fear amd shame when talking about sex which leads them to fear it when the time eventually comes.

@CHloE748 Жыл бұрын
Why do you assume every woman who wants to wait until marriage is “scared” of sex? Couple’s who wait tend to have a better sex life and the divorce rates are lower according to statistics. You can tell if someone is fearful of sex or thinks it’s “sinful” just by talking to them 99% of the time. The biggest reason a woman can fear sex is from SA or a previous trauma.. that’s not the new man’s fault, but I think it’s definitely something you need to tell your partner BEFORE you marry them.

During the early days of my high school, I dated a popular girl. Just to clarify this, I was not at all in love with her but she was extremely in love with me. She was super nice and funny so we immediately got close to each other after talking to one another for a few months. She confessed and I initially dumped her but asked to be friends still. Unfortunately, she kept being heavily sad about how I dumped her and out of pity with a little bit of curiosity, I decided to why not give her a chance? We dated and that's when things started to turn bad, she became very obsessed with me. Controlling and possessive, she was practically holding my life in her hands. Noticing this and how our relationship was one-sided, I decided to break up with her. It was fine for a while until she started to do things that went out of control. She sent multiple friends of hers to harass me online and send me death threats. She then proceeded to guilt trip and manipulate my friends to try and get me to come back with her. She also did some very harmful stuff to herself so I could come back to her. Obviously, I didn't. She did a lot of things I don't really want to mention or remember, she almost ruined my life and because of her I went through major depression. I also suffered from PTSD because of the things she did after and before we broke up. I've been afraid to enter romantic relationships ever since then and have been extremely doubtful & cautious of people who are generally nice to me because they could be one of her friends and such. I managed to cut her off my life even when she kept trying to come back in it. I went through therapy and I'm now dating a person who knows about my boundaries and would not try to cross them. We've been dating for 4 years now and I can't ask for anything more than to continue being happy with them. I still suffer from fear and paranoia of ex coming back into my life to ruin it but my partner reassures me that it won't happen as long as they're with me and I believe them.

Just got to drop this story and perspective here: I'm a psych student and my ex was a malignant narcissist. He managed to charm everyone and convinced me during the relationship that everyone hated me, as well as other cruel psych tactics. Now here's where it's juicy- his ex's all appeared "crazy" and he labeled them as such. He was stringing them along the entire 7 years. I thought they were crazy until I went to therapy and saw his actions as purposely creating addictive like behavior in almost every woman he engaged with, ever. These stories might have more behind them, be careful ladies. Not every "crazy ex" actually is. Narcissists frequently manipulate people who know their actions to stay separate, hate each other, not trust each other, and string multiple people along. Now I'm the "crazy ex" but he's out of my life and I have moved on, don't reach out etc. He used to bait and provoke me into responding, though. He doesn't want his new girl to know the truth and really wants his ex's to look bad and untrustworthy. Nah, we are mostly just codependents with a frustrated sense of justice. Just saying, this perspective belongs here. Also: Narcissists denying sex is an actual, legit narcissistic tactic. I'm suspicious of the dude's story around 7 minutes in.

Triangulation, every time I saw something he called me crazy, constant gaslighting, and a rotation of love bombing and isolation, and being legit sadistic to his kid and me behind closed doors. In public he would parade me and talk highly of me because his ego is tied with a "good guy" image. Then he got into crypto, met a couple millionaires and he couldn't hide anymore. His greed became #1 and all of a sudden his bad behavior was visible to multiple people. Pretty sure that he agrees with Andrew Tate now, but never publicly! Also his ex's all seem to be brilliant but sensitive romantic types. And their "crazy" behavior makes SO MUCH SENSE after therapy and time away from his circle of lies and toxicity. Poor women! Reminds me when I got with my husband years ago, him and his ex had been broken up for over a year or more and as soon as I got in the picture it was constant texting him, calling him at work, late at night wanting him to phone and check in on her kids, lying and making up stories to get a rise out of him hoping he would be jealous or he would go out of his way to rescue her from her own drama. She got mad when she found out I was pregnant, but that didn't stop her till she took off to clear her head and stay with family members hoping my husband would go out of his way for her, he never once tried to contact her at the point and it seems like she got the hint and hasn't bothered since.

I have remained friendly with some of my ex's, in those cases we weren't really 'in luurrve' but more of being comfortable around each other. My ex husband however, stalked me, asked me out on a date for my birthday the year AFTER our divorce came through, and when I said no, repeatedly, still turned up at my house anyway and got pissy because I wasn't ready to go out and he had tickets and "everything". He kept saying we could get back together. This is the man who drove me to the brink of suicide, gaslighted me, hit me etc etc. Nothing I did was ever good enough for him..... not to mention how he was gaslighting our kids too and mentally stuffed them up. It's been 15 years since our divorce and for the last 8 he has had a constant partner who is just like him. No thanks... I'll pass.

The story with the woman who didn't want to have intimacy after marriage bothers me. Not because of not wanting intimacy (there are plenty of people who aren't interested in that, just gotta find the right ones), but because there was an insinuation she would be interested (i.e. "waiting for marriage"). If things change, fine. Just talk. But it feels like she pulled him into the marriage with false promises of what it would be like. Gross.

7:34 the reason she's creating this 'fiction' about your past relationship and 'denied' her sex is because she found out (after the problems that led to the divorce) is that everyone thinks she's weird for not having sex with her husband for 5+ years... so now she's wanting to shake of the stigma of her being weird about sex and trying to throw the blame onto him in order to get rid of the stigma. she's 'deflecting' the reason onto him. hoping that it won't taint any more relationships she has, but you can't stop being who you are and if she has some weird sex hang-ups then she'll continue to have them unless she gets some serious help. and even then it'll take YEARS before she'll be able to handle it. BUT until then, she'll keep blaming him in order to try and get people to not realize it was her and give her funny looks... it's easier to blame the other person instead of owning up to your own crap... AND it has the added benefit of trying to hurt his relationship as a form of getting back at him for the cheating, which I can promise, she's STILL hurt about....

Turns out, he was cheating on me with her the entire 2 years we were dating and even slept with her right before our wedding. During our marriage, I found out about multiple other partners. It was a nightmare! What I learned is if you have an ex messaging you, it could be that he or she is crazy. It could also be that your boyfriend/girlfriend isn’t being honest about their relationship. Be careful!

I think it's odd to assume you can't be friends with an ex. Sometimes, a relationship ends up being a horrible idea or you just grow apart, but a friendship works out great. I've also had an exes girlfriends totally freak out over me when we barely chat and 100% friend zone, even one made up a fake email with an email address I hadn't used in years to frame me for telling her he was a cheater 😬 Crazy ! I didn't even know her name 😅 Either trust someone or let them go.

Agreed! It is possible to be friends with your ex. Imo it's the overly insecure gfs that act like the ones you mentioned who end up causing all the drama, rather than the ex. Most of the time all it takes is one conversation to explain boundaries, etc.

I still talk to one of my exes. She's actually like my closest friend. I'm a lesbian and live in a medium sized city with a small LGBT community so everyone is kind of connected. Everyone dated each other's ex etc so a lot of us end up being/staying friends. It's sort of nice when people are mature about it. I feel like when a relationship ends the friendship part of that relationship can sometimes continue. Depending on the people involved. My current partner is also friends with my ex.

I don't see the issue with being friends with an ex either - one of my best friends is also an ex (the relationship was based on a friendship to begin with and ended because of differences in dreams for the future). I'm good friends with the wife of another ex and talk to him (the ex) occasionally, mostly through her lol, me and my current partner have dinner with them sometimes and stuff like that. Different kind of breakups lead to different relationships with exes. Sometimes you never speak to them again and sometimes you stay close friends forever 🙃

I have 2 ex partners I'm being in sort of friendly relationships with. For me it's so weird that some people think the only way to end relationship is to cut off the ex and block them everywhere. One of my exes lives nearby me and sometimes babysits my dogs or I borrow his tools. Or I lend him my van or store his potatoes in my basement or smth. I also get along with his new partner. The fact that we didn't fit as a couple does not mean we can't be friendly with each other. We are not super close and there's NOTHING romantic with him. Also we have similar taste in films, we work in the same industry, so we talk about mutual interests as well. With another ex I'm still in good terms with I go to cinema or concerts. But I have some dudes I've been dating that I do not even greet when we see each other. I think it depends on person as well.

@Maria Teng for sure I feel the same way. I don't really spend time with my ex but we will ask each other about advice on gardening or he taught me how to cook really well so when I have a question about a recipe I'll text him. My dad was just over at my mom's for the week cat sitting while she went to New Orleans with my grandparents and her BF. There are definitely some exs I do not want anything to do with but I think after youve been with someone for a long time or married you know a lot about them and it's just nice knowing you can still be friendly and wish the best for them.

Also, for the last one (in my opinion) it should have been a HUGE red flag that he didn't respect that she was in a relationship with someone else and kept bugging her anyway. 4:00 studies in psychology and relationships have shown that it's never a good idea to 'stay friends' with your ex... the only exception is being you were great friends BEFORE the relationship for YEARS. and even then, it's extremely rare that the friendship will last after the breakup. There are too many issue that arise (the most obliviously being that one of you will always want to get back together) in the 'friendship' after the relationship and usually just causes more problems in whatever new relationship you get into... it's better in the long run to just cut ties cold turkey and view them as part of your past and make sure that there is no more contact (unless it's legal stuff through lawyers only) from then on... you'll be happier and have less complications in your life... the exception being with kids involved, then try to keep it civil, otherwise as limited contact as possible...

I am actually friends with my ex. We first started dating when I was 17 and we were together for almost 8-9 years combined with a break period of 3-4 years in between. Initially we broke up because we were not moving forward and I wanted someone that had some direction in life - we tried for about 1 year to fix it and there was very little change. It wasn’t a messy break-up, just decided to part ways. Second break-up was because mostly because of the same issues, that he was convinced he would be able to fix and he did take some steps and that was encouraging, but didn’t actually follow-up. So we broke-up again for good. We still talk every now and then. We text or talk a few times a year: birthdays, holidays, funerals, emergencies, if any and occasionally I send him a bunch of pictures of my cat that we got together (kitty is 14y now) and she’s lived with both of us together but also with each of us separately depending on who rented where pets were allowed. We are just good friends and we always were. My current boyfriend knows about this (he seems unbothered - i have asked repeatedly if he minds - he said no - we left it at that cause he’s the type that voices his disagreement if any exists). My ex, is not currently in a serious relationship, but is dating. I personally knew 2 of the ladies he’s been with when we were broken up the first time (one was a work colleague of his and the second a waitress at our favorite bar and part of our extended circle of friends). Both ladies would have been great choices, but they both ultimately had the same issue I had. 2-3 months ago he finally fixed the problem and hopefully he’ll find someone serious to be with and it will stick. I’m 34 now so I’ve known him half my life, however, if he would say he wants no more contact I would just accept that and let the man be happy with whoever he’s in a relationship. Out of all my bfs I have only ended things poorly with 1 and that’s because the dude was harassing me after we broke up - the only one where I would pass by and not even look at on the street. I would throw a glass of water on him if he was on fire, but that’s about it.

Yes. I finally realized I am Grey Ace Demi in my late 40s. Very rarely am attracted to anyone at all. Great to figure that out. Sadly, there was zero awareness about Asexuality when I was growing up. But good to know I am not broken. ❤

My best friend (since highschool) 30 years now married my ex boyfriend and they have been together 20 plus years. We all talk and are very much friends. I love my best friend and she has been there for me. He and I gave it a try but I knew it wasn't working for us. I knew him and my bff would be great together. I would never deny anyone happiness and I was setting them up to be together. They are very happy and very much in love. I'm happy that I was able to see what could be and not get in the way. I'm recently single (my love lost his battle with cancer) and still talk to a majority of ex's and their significant others. I have respect for them and know my place. If any guy ex tries to cry on my shoulder know his woman is right there, because you are not going to disrespect her using me. I'm blessed with true friends who know I will speak the truth (to the point of getting in trouble sometimes). There is to many women punching others down. We need to be happy for others, because it is hope that there is something good in this world
