I appreciate the fact that the OP in the first story was self aware of their estranged antics and behavior. Most of the stories we hear about on Reddit are about folks who seemingly have no type of self awareness whatsoever. Also, PSA folks. Be careful about what you gossip about. No matter what you do, you'll always be the villain in someone else's story. Don't validate the story/rumor if you don't have to. PS: There's an awful lot of projections here. Like, a lot of folks can't seem to handle the idea that they might be the problem. 🙃

Learning how to be wrong is an extremely important skill that people aren't taught that can be difficult to learn. It's like training a puppy, getting the mind used to jerking from a reaction but then getting back to baseline. Being able to accept you made a mistake, where wrong, take the blow to the ego and recover and accept and move on from that without trying to cope about how you where actually right.

The result is, most of the stories you'll get with that question falls under 2 categories: -Those who were made out to be the crazy exes by an abusive and/or spiteful ex -Those who are the crazy exes but spun the story to convince themselves and others that they were unfairly accused of it.

I have an ex who always said all his exes were crazy-that’s always a red flag, ladies. We were together for 3 years and in that time he did a 180. He started out love bombing, super supportive, social and wanted to go out, and physically affectionate. It all changed after he proposed. We stopped going on dates. I slowly ended up having to do more and more while he began to do less and less around our place. He was emotionally abusive, gaslighted me to the point that I questioned my reality, isolated me and pushed friends out of my life he didn’t approve of, and constantly belittled me. It wore me down. I felt like I was walking on egg shells all the time. It seemed like the slightest things would set him off. He would give me the silent treatment randomly and not tell me what was wrong; he would not have sex with me, kiss, cuddle or even hold my hand when walking in public. I wouldn’t get a reason why. When I would ask him what was wrong and to talk to me, he’d just respond “what do you want me to say?” He would decide things I did wrong seemingly at random and call me all through my work day to argue with me. If I didn’t answer my cell, he’d call my work or show up there. I was afraid he’d get me fired. I nearly got written up once because he called my office phone over and over and over after a fight we had and when I answered he screamed at me over the phone until I was crying. One night he did hurt me physically and I am not proud of it but I defended myself and hit back. At least after that he never attempted that again, but the emotional abuse was so bad I honestly wished at points that he did beat me so someone could see a manifestation of the pain I was in. One day I found my courage and left. I’ve heard I’m another one of his “crazy exes”. I don’t care what he says. Yeah, I did go crazy for a while. He has that effect on people.

I was called the crazy girlfriend. I wasn't doing anything crazy though, he was abusing tf out of me physically and mentally. Eventually I started crying all day, every day, even at work or in public. I couldn't stop crying in front of people, bc I became so depressed, alone and isolated, and scared. I just wanted to die. But I knew I couldn't put my siblings through my su*c*de, and it was the most challenging struggle I've ever faced alone to survive. Anyways though, bc i was isolated from everyone, it was easy for him to tell anybody we knew mutually that I was just insane. I was crazy, that's why I was always crying. It couldn't have been, you know, being cheated on, hit, lied to daily, told I'm stupid/weak/etc regularly, or the constant gaslighting.. nope I was just a damn nutcase because I couldn't hold in the tears anymore 🙃 the worst part was that they all believed him, and when he finally came clean about his abuse towards me, not one of them ever mentioned it or apologized to me. They pretend they didn't spend time laughing with him at my expense while I was literally being beat on. It makes me feel sick every time I see those same people and they try to smile all friendly-like to me. We were in high school and I was trying to fill in the love I wasnt getting from my parents with him. I never got over him until nearly a decade later. I realize now that I was being insanely stupid. I even met up with him a few times in between those years, and once it was because he wanted to tell me he was engaged. I told him I hated her even though I’d never met her. Later I found out he broke off the engagement. I don’t know why. I hope it wasnt because of me. He deserves to be happy.

I was the craxy ex gf in highschool. I was dating this guy around a time I was having a lot of issues with my family and trying to figure out how to be an adult. Our relationship was a lot of partying and sex, and though I've never been much of a person to use drugs ~ we did drink a lot, smoke weed, and occasionally took psychadelics (or random drugs given to us...yeah dumb kids). It escalated one time when we ended up having a 3some with one of his 'friends' (a girl). We spent a few days partying with her and the last night she suddenly became suicidal and purposefully OD'd on SSRIs while everyone was sleeping. It was quite traumatic for everyone but I was the primary actor in getting her help. It was awful, the host just left her there and I had to yell at my ex to call EMS while I took care of her. She was vomitting and seizuring so I had to continually put her in recovery position and keep her safe. I was upset since it seemed nobody wanted to help, so I got quite aggressive telling people what to do to help her. Unfortunately, she didn't survive. She died at the hospital and we didn't get to see her or get closure since her family only wanted to mourn privately. After this, I had to focus on finding a place to live and started working a lot. I had no one to rely on except him since I had been living with his family before these events. We had agreed I would move out at this time so I did. He essentially ghosted me during this time, which I understood to a degree since I was working so much and assumed he was mourning. Near the end, we ended up in conflict since I had limited time off (only Sundays) and asked to hangout with him on those days. He said he couldnt since he needed to spend time with his family on those days (which he never had before and they werent religious). I tried negotiating and trying to figure out another way and he just found other excuses ~ that his friends were more important and at this point I got upset since that was obviously an excuse. Who does that? Why would you not want to hangout with your gf one day a week. Soon after he showed up unexpectedly to my place with a garbage bag of my stuff to break up with me, apparently because the events traumatized him and I reminded him of the events. He apparently cut off his friends who were there too because they were triggering him (spoiler he didn't it was an excuse and a really f*cked up one at that). I became really angry and upset. After this, I tried to convince him to change his mind and actually tried to off myself when it didnt work. He, obviously, cut me off because of this. I'm not proud of that but I also had pretty much no one except him. I was working too much to have friends (and the ones I did have were frankly pretty shit tbh). Later I found out he was cheating on me...which is why I knew it was an excuse. I should have clued in as he instigated the 3some with his 'friend' but I was young and naive. It was the first relationship I had where I actually really liked him. I was disposable since I wasn't at his beck and call anymore, so he found someone new while I was too busy to notice. Thankfully I have grown up a lot more since then (it's been 7 years) and am now in a healthy relationship.

He lost it, mildly threatened me, and I panicked and tried getting an RO but agreed on a protective order. He didn't follow it and it's been over a year and people are still harassing me from it. I blacked out the year i got the protective order and was having CONSTANT panic attacks so people dubbed me as crazy, obsessive, and dangerous. I can't have friendships or relationships with people anymore because my ex's friends will ruin it
@WargBlarg5 ай бұрын
Oh, i had one. Some things that i remember from that hellish 3 year relationship- 1) there was literally nothing that wasn't worth getting into an anxious panic about. Like i remember one time she got apocalyptically worked up about my body language when i was talking to my dad when we went out to lunch with my parent. Apparently I was obviously afraid of my dad annnnd that was worth shitting one's pants over. I didn't have anxiety before this relationship but the risk of literally anything turning into a panicked verbal altercation out of nowhere definitely gave me some. 2) i didn't know much but i knew she had issues. I encouraged her to go to therapy, tried to be supportive of her taking care of her mental health. And she would for a little bit, just long enough to get a prescription for something and then stop without telling me. The prescription would run out, I'd be able to tell due to her unhinged anxiety coming back, then she'd start the cycle all over again. She claimed that she'd seen the psychiatrist's notes about her and she said they thought she had BPD. Not sure if they meant bipolar or borderline but she easily could have had both. High highs followed by extreme lows, she was never the problem, etc. 3) Part of why I stayed in the relationship so long was my own relative inexperience but also because about 6 months into our relationship she wrapped her car around a tree shortly after moving in with me and was severely injured and needed a surgery and a lot of rehab to recover. I didn't want to be the asshole who kicked out his bedridden girlfriend, especially since she didn't have anywhere else to go (her mother was an insane alcoholic and her dad was a bum). Although I did find it very weird and suspect that while she was still bedridden she was absolutely insistent that i buy her a new car to replace her totaled one immediately. She literally couldn't get out of bed at the time without assistance, wtf did she need a car for? I refused at that point but i did buy her one when she got out of rehab and got a new job. The real kicker is that about a year later, when i started to have serious trouble with my own car, she told me that I'd be better off wrapping it around a tree than fixing it. I chuckled, thinking that this was an intentionally hyperbolic suggestion, until i looked at her and saw that she was being completely serious. I told her i wasn't going to do that and her expression changed, and she said she was just kidding. Kinda makes me wonder about her accident because she'd talked to me about wanting to get a different from the one she was currently driving. Had she just been trying to crash it so she could force me to get her a new one? 4) Classic shit like a bunch of debt in collections she wasn't telling me about despite asking before we moved in together. Lots of male friends. A serious weed habit. Telling me that i needed to help out more around the house despite the fact i was the one working 70 hrs/ week and remodeling the kitchen while she worked 3 or 4 days a week waiting tables and hung out with her friends to smoke weed. 5) she had body image issues and I was into fitness. She asked me to meal prep for her and i would, but eventually i figured out that she would take the meals I'd prepared for her, dump them out, and eat fast food instead. I'd obviously stop prepping for her and then I'd get blamed for her poor eating habits. 6) constant lying, gaslighting, and manipulation. I very distinctly remember her telling me in the beginning of the relationship that she had a heart condition and was on a waiting list for a transplant. A couple months went by and i brought up her heart condition and she claimed that she never said anything about that and didn't remember telling me about any medical conditions she had. She once told me that some girl was threatening to kill her and she'd blocked her on social media. A couple weeks later the girl comes up in conversation again, i bring up the threats, and she yet again pretends like she has no idea what I'm talking about. 7) toward the end of the relationship we were arguing about something and I told her that she was hurting my feelings. She leaned into my face and screamed, without a hint of irony, "YOU. DON'T. HAVE. FEELINGS!" That was definitely the point where i knew that things were over even though I now know that this relationship should have been ended about 2 weeks in at best. It was my first and by far my worst, although it could've been quite a bit worse.

I listen to a few of these. I'm surprised that the first one actually admitted to doing something that could fall under crazy. I respect her for sharing. Honestly sometimes it takes just a minor Crazy Action in order to fall on that crazy list. And usually one knows what that action is. They did something minor, but the way it gets discussed is as if it were major. Most won't even admit to doing anything minor. But like another commenter said, people that know they behave crazily are probably ashamed of it and don't want to share the tale. Oh we end up with is only the stories of the ones who were falsely accused of being crazy. Yeah it's unfortunate that so many guys use that shorthand or find out lie about having a crazy ex-girlfriend, but there are definitely are some, and even some of that behave in a crazy way just once in a moment of duress. Not saying that's a fair way to label them for the entirety of the relationship. But for those that did do even something minor league crazy, I would like to hear the story and their mindset for the moment / moments the so-called craziness occurred.

One example of this is she said that I had used her depression against her somehow by telling her that I had hurt myself and that I actually felt very depressed at times too? I will 100% admit that I was a bad boyfriend but that is just a lie?? She literally didn't tell me that she was depressed and even if I knew I think we can all agree that genuinly asking for help when I tried my very best to help HER at the same time, eventually giving up because she refused to tell me she was depressed is NOT manipulation. Also all of her friends were saying similar things about how I was manipulative and such, to this day I still wonder if I was but I don't know because I caught her lying to her friends about a few things about me.

Man, it’s wild how your ex and her friends were more focused on crafting a villain narrative than actually communicating. Sounds like they were twisting things just to fit their story, but at least you know what’s real.

Men cling to the “she’s crazy” so hard because they refuse to admit their own inadequacies.

I have no problem admitting that whenever a man tells me about a “crazy ex girlfriend” he’s had, I don’t believe him. A lot of the time men will say and do the most vitriolic shit then play victim to conflict they created but wonder why women with strong intuition who hear “all my exes are crazy” run like the wind.

Despite these poor souls being called crazy, i wish a woman looked at me and desired me and wanted me as badly as these women do, ive always thought that if a woman did all these things people call them crazy for, they must really love them, but idk what that really feels like so its just a dumb thought

Story 15: She has no right to sound so self-righteous and lambast the mutual friends when she never bothered to explain WHY she was treating him like crap. They dropped her for what THEY believed to be good reasons, and she never once spoke up about why she did it. Literally, how are they supposed to know if she never defends herself? Obviously what her ex did is wrong, but she's labelling her former mutual friends because she never bothered to defend herself and they had no choice BUT to believe that her ex was telling the truth.

If someone has more than one “crazy” ex story I assume they are the common denominator and I run as far away as I can. Even if they aren’t lying, they are obvi a crazy magnet and I do not have time for that drama.

It's absolutely insane that some of these women diddnt notice that they were being gas lit and mentally abused... that seemingly made them "crazy".

I had a gf who was pretty fucking mental, she was a friend of mine who helped me through a relationship and when she opened idea of a relationship and at first it was fine, later she kinda ghosted me for 3 days specifically sometimes 2 or 4 days in a row and eventually found out she was interested in someone else, I decided to leave yhe relationship and she threatened to off herself, this made everything pretty damn bad for me for a few months where I'd get tired of it qnd she would threaten, couldn't cheat but she could, made me sound like I was abusive, had messages proving she was abusive, then after a bit later I eventually found someone I was interested, she encouraged me to leave it and let her deal with it, I did, she threatened me more made a few hilarious comments then dated the girl who helped me out, together almost 5 straight years and that woman ended up being my best neutral ending relationship I've had

can i Mention that the so called "crazy" partner being recorded literally having fallen in insanity having an mental breakdown, often get recorded by the Toxic Narcissistic Abuser who intentionally stays calm to look good on camera, but in reality are the one who had triggered that reaction in their victim by the constant abuse and mistreatment off camera, it's called "reactive abuse" which i really often had because of my toxic narcissistic abusive crazy middle sister...

I have an ex that I think wanted to be the crazy girlfriend. Before dating her she said she would be the yandere girlfriend if she dated someone. Yes I was young and yes I ignored the flags. She was pretty normal during the relationship though so, eh.

A doctory tells you that you have... anxiety..? Wow, you have a completely normal and ubiquitous human emotion? Say it ain't so! Edit: One more thing, I've got 3 kids. Here's the deal, if the baby is crying and you've gone through the checklist, then just let them do their thing. If they're crying, they're breathing. Which means they're alive. It's not gonna kill them and they learn to self soothe.
