Thanks for the shout-out George! The improved summer scenery is much better...we've been having the same cold and wind and have lost power twice so far. As far as what type of tree...my guess is a tree that produces a sap a certain Bissell guy likes.

Sap, yes, it produces squirrels too! Hope you get some subs out of it, us little channels have to stick together!

Could turn some nice bowls out of that maple. Beautiful wood.

Ha, thanks for the shout-out George! I was guessing soft maple based on the smooth bark on the branch and the darker heart wood (but we've aged some pretty dark hard maple by letting them sit in the log piles).

you got it right Andy. Decided not to use the 4x8 for the sawmill shed, because I couldn't lift it lol...

I remember watching you set that beam not too long ago. It is amazing what difference the sawmill shed has made. I have pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I will not be milling until Spring; I don't do cold!

Oh I'll be sawing in the snow, it's the wind that gets me.

It's -4 here in MN right now. Nippy. I'm one of those weirdos who can tell what kind of tree it is just by looking at it. Why, I don't know. I'd wager it's because I'm obsessed with trees and wood. I knew it was maple almost instantly.

I've got some bark free logs coming up that I have no idea what they are, so we're not done playing guess the wood...

Great video. Ain't it great to have some archived video for a rainy or freezing day?

Looks like sycamore. Inside looks like maple. I thought Sycamore because the twisting on the outside.
@mcsawmill6 ай бұрын
Sycamore has kind of a smooth flakey bark that is usually white or rainbow colored doesn't it? You recognized the wood, it's maple.

nope :)

After watching more of your video I heard the answer Maple, is what I have on my property also. Big sugar maples about 5-6 of them, that we tap in spring. I've been looking at sawmills but can't justify spending $30k-$75k for all the more that I'd use it.

looks like soft maple. but you elude to rock maple.
