Crazy Rome Traffic Intersection - Piazza Venezia

@RitalMan2000 that's insane. I hardly think a german could find his way around, and they are pretty skilled drivers. Getting through there with no accidents says something about italian drivers.

I was there in april this year and it was crazy. After 2 days it was normal to me and I had no problems. I am from germany and I was born in a city with 250thousand people.

albertx46 You perceived it well. I think you are very intelligent. Us Italians drive our way following initial direction. We keep safety distances but rejoin quickly at tail of vehicle preceding us if it stops abruptly. We check precedences on the right. The first to pass an interesction is the one who has his right side free. In other nations like in USA it passes first the first vehicle that arrives the intersection.

its not crazy, only you must understand what you can do, i worked there and during one year i saw maybe one accident

In piazza venezia there si always a policeman who controls the traffic, he's called the pizzardone ;) greetings from Rome!

You should see Traffic in Saigon, if you think this is nuts >.>, First time riding a motorcycle there I nearly got squished by two trucks running a red xD

no. couse the place is huge... would be impossible to do that. first becouse there are 6 streets coming in, second becouse in that square no car are allowded anymore. third couse those are one of the most important buinldong in the world.. no traffic lighs on it are permitted...

i think once you learn how to drive in saigon, vietnam you can drive anywhere. this looks easy!

The only evident rule is a horizontal give way sign for the cars coming down from the monument on top of the Piazza, all else is right of the right, but as I see it, Romans probably believe in karma and know that one day it could be them needing to come through so they yield even when they should be going. Also, to complicate things, there is a traffic light for pedestrians on top and a bus terminal somewhere near it as well.

I'm just back and had a great time but the there are no rules on the roads , it is mental not only on the Piazza Venezia but on every street that allows traffic . They speed , weave in and out , disregard pedestrians and crossings , and park wherever they like , yes there are lots of police , but the only sirens that I heard were ambulances and lots of them. But a great place ,, just take the bus.

yes but not in that cross...there's municipal policemen who are the ones who have to take cares of street rules but they are just like mannequins there. I just say thousands of shit when i pass there with the scooter.
