That’s not to say don’t tune, But you just putting your car at risk. You can’t compare a great tuner to engineers with budgets in the millions for their R&D.

Idk about that. When i used to track my Subaru, the "super tuned" Normals had heavily modified engines for reliability with forged internals, upgraded engine and transmission cooling, drive train modifications, and suspension modifications to put the power down. Reliability mods and ECU tuning were just as important as power mods since we raced on circuits. Out of all the track days I raced, I only saw one failure and which I think was a head gasket failure on a corvette. It was usually the street racers who would go turbo or turn up the turbo on stock internals.

@@BFBMTb track builds and drag builds are completely different bro. Drag cars aren’t meant for duration so he is right most drag cars wouldn’t last a couple miles of driving. Track cars on the other hand are meant for performance and duration so you know they can do multiple laps and finish a race. So of course the cars you saw at a track lasted while performing because that’s what they’re meant to do.

This reminds me of the time I was hanging around with my mechanic buddy. We were in his V70 T5 that had been remapped to have over 500bhp and a short range gearbox that made it top out at 135mph. We were just in the slow lane on the motor way and an Audi RS3 and Golf R were coming up behind us in the other 2 lanes clearly egging each other on to race. Then they go flying past us so my mate dropped a gear. It was glorious doing a big fat Smokey wheel spin all the way up to 120mph passed them. You'd take any car to the strip to get quarter and half times and to dial in fuel ratios and tunes on something consistent. You can't dial in a tune on a full lap because, unless you're Hamilton or Vettel, any difference in times is most likely the driver. If you've ever been to the strip, you don't drive up and say, "I wanna race that guy." You show up and get in line and eventually you get to the tree and someone random is next to you. These aren't heads up tournaments, and they're certainly not brackets. They're open track days, where you wait in line for 4 hours and do a pull for your numbers. Then you let some air out or advance your timing or step up your boost, wait another 4 hours, and see how your time changed. Aside from the showboats on the highway that think brand beats boost, these aren't people that went to the strip thinking they were going to embarrass or impress anyone, because there's going to be actual drag cars at the strip that will embarrass ANYONE and EVERYONE else there that didn't have several million dollars to blow on a car that does three pulls and then gets rebuilt from the ground up.
