I have seen gymnasts and acrobats perform such things, there are many types of strength and gymnasts/acrobats display the greatest lb for lb strength using the body as resistance than anyone. I am a powerlifter and I have the utmost respect for them and their craft and that of any true sports competitor. I say fair play to them, its a great spectacle to watch.

Well, I am not a gymnast, but I do one leg squats and handstand pushups and ab wheel rollouts (not standing yet). At 6'2 and 250, I am the only guy my size in my U who can do those. And it is TOUGH and took me a while to develop those, while the bodybuidlers cant do one of either. I can only imagine how much harder these moves are. Bodyweight is superb for strength development.

Good point. Bodybuilders are about asthetics and looks. I am just hoping people just dont waste their lives trying to develop maximal strength only. The body is capable of so much more, and these guys here are strong overall, not in just one facet of strength.

I don't understand why people are saying things like 'I bet a power lifter couldn't do this'. That is like saying 'I bet a swimmer couldn't beat a tennis player', or 'a runner couldn't beat a footballer'. They are all different disciplines with entirely different goals.

A 'body-builder' in the 'mr. universe' style could not do what you do because he would have too much body mass. I find this to be the most ideal way to develop the body in the most natural way. I wish I were 20 yrs younger so I could do this, maybe in my next life...

I'm with you on this argument. Bulk, to a certain extent, doesn't really inhibit your speed, as long as you train your muscles to move faster and train on that everyday, like Brock Lesner does, then your a winner in both sections. People who are scrawny and can attack fast (in a fight scenario) may not have an upper hand to someone who is bulkier and moderately fast. Difference is the force of the punch comin' at ya xD. They both hold the same force, but less/more resistance (Human body).

@KurNorock Kind of. Center of gravity helps with how you use your strength, or can, for that matter. If your center of gravity is lower you're harder to knock over, and when doing squats that would probably keep you from tipping over and breaking something.

@DnarloSaggin It's a simple fact that isolating individual muscle groups and forcing them to hypertrophy is not what nature intended, and it does not build functional strength. Because in real life you always recruit numerous muscle groups to do any physical activity. What do I do for a workout? I just got a SEAL challenge contract. What do YOU do for a workout?

@ImpossibleIsNothin It's very difficult to argue this without using opinions. I believe gymnastics and MMA training are both equal in difficulty. One sport must factor split-second decisions which involve long-term and life threatening injury, while the other uses memory and complete physical control and grace.

@pokermaster54 Not much. M,W,F: BJJ 1 session, 5x5 program, sub chinups for pullups, super set 2/3 exercises, 45 sec rest for intensity. BJJ 2 session. T,TH: H.I.I.T cardio, 50 yard sprint, bulgarian sandbag workout(too much to type), walk back. Repeat 8 times(building up since I just started), ABs after. Saturday or Sunday, I'm starting to do the Bar-Barian challenge. Just found it and it looks fun. SEAL workouts are tough, good luck man. Can't type much more, but we are done here. Good luck!

@bigbobabc123 gymnasts can bench more than you think but most of them are 150lbs or so and never bench press so I doubt they can bench 350lbs. But keep in mind that bench press has a limited range of motion because the bar won't allow you to go further down than your chest, and your moving the weight in one plane. Gymnasts are strong in multiple planes of movements and are able to exert power in ranges that lifters can't.

@pureefficient Its not about how much weight you lift, even if you target all body parts. The training for these things is completely different. These guys do almost all calisthenics, allowing them to figure out how their body works quickly, and they expand on it. I've seen some pretty strong guys weighing about 200lbs and curl 50 lbs like 5 or 6 times but they still can't do more than 10 pullups. Its a different type of workout one can't expand on without practice.
@capfroggy2k
@capfroggy2k 16 жыл бұрын
these guys are good at moving their own body weight. lifting other weight is a different story, however it's probably wise to train both for just general fitness.
@pokermaster54
@pokermaster54 13 жыл бұрын
@juiceyx "Calisthenics like pushups,sit ups, pull ups allow you to gain control over your body" Those are entry calisthenics exercises they teach you in elementary school. You proved my point. Lifters can only do calisthenics that little kids can do, and probably they would even lose to kids at pull ups. And forget about lifters doing muscle ups. They couldn't climb a wall or a tree branch to save their lives.
