It warms my heart to watch a new Dream Theater fan in the making. This is from their second album. They started in the 80s and are still pumping music today. In fact we are awaiting a new album. One thing about Dream Theater is that they are an album band. Dream Theater was influenced by the likes of Iron Maiden, Rush, Black Sabbath, Metallica, and tons more, and they have influenced many.myou have quite a journey to travel as the rabbit hole goes pretty deep.

Awesome reaction! Good depth of analysis, technologically and technique-wise, man almost nobody I know can genuinely “take the time” to really listen to Dream Theater with me so I kinda rely on KZbin reactions for companionship in listening to them, so I’m very appreciative whenever someone new pops up on my feed with a DT reaction, haha. Love this song! From my limited experience in music overall, Learning to Live seems like one of the most amazing songs in metal (or in general). It just feels kinda transcendental to me, and some of the other DT songs do that too. I still have a hard time believing this band is even real. It's one thing to compose this insane complex and difficult music sitting in studio. And it's entirely different thing to pull off the level of live performances they do. Back in the day they would play around 2 hours of their music on this crazy level, and then, as a concert closure play AN ENTIRE ALBUM of Metallica or Pink Floyd (their live rendition of DSotM is amazing). It just blows my mind.

I have been a DT fan for many years and every time they release a new album I listen and say that’s impossible to play. Then I see the concert and watch them play the songs live perfectly and afterwards I say that’s impossible to play! This is IMO the best group of musicians ever assembled. I’ve heard the members say many times “ if there was no Rush, there would be no Dream Theater “. ✌🏻☝🏼☝🏼✌🏻

I actually hadn't seen that performance, that was pretty good! The improv section in the middle was interesting, I haven't heard them throw that in there before. All in all, wonderful song, wonderful album. Learning to Live is the perfect closer to what was in my opinion almost a perfect album.

Have seen them 5 times and it's always awesome ... well except the vocals which can be rough in his later years. If you have the time (23 minute song) check out A Change Of Seasons. Mike Portnoy wrote it after his mother was killed in a plane crash.
