I guess some are missing the point. The parents tell the kids what they’re going to do. Not the other way around. Like I commented before, it’s one thing to hear the kids’ ideas, another thing entirely when they kids were telling the parent how it was going to go. Thank you for your input, Addi & Mason, now let’s go get the van. Period. I love them all too. But this really needed to be said. Addison and Mason were right about it being faster to do it when they were there the first time. Not sure Jared needed to put his hands on Addison just because she wouldn’t do what Shelly wanted her to do….nobody was in danger or getting hurt by the discussion. Grabbing her and forcing Addison to do something against her will just because “the parent” wanted her to do something nonsensical, sends the wrong message for her future relationships and what’s acceptable behavior. They don’t know Addisons past either. Grabbing her may have been or could still be triggering for PTSD. …and YES my wife and I have raised teens…

Wow, this really was a “teaching moment.” The kids were upset with Addison arguing with her parents and the disrespect of Mason telling his dad to shut up. But they were even more upset that they were allowed to behave that way without consequences. We spent a great deal of time talking about how different families discipline and how some families let kids learn the hard way by suffering natural consequences. The kids are now concerned that Addison will lose friends in the future because she’s disrespectful… This video allowed us to talk a lot about character traits and consequences for our behaviors. I’m really glad you shared this video:)
