Unfortunately, these simple devices cost more than an HDTV! You can make your own. Lots of work though. If you can get your hands on an old non rectified flyback transformer, you can make something just as good for cheaper and almost no effort.

explanations: 2nd one: The strainer and the foil form a faraday cage. They are conducting electricity very well, so electrons can move freely on the surface. Any electric fields from outside will move the electrons on that surface until their electric field balances out the external electric field. That way, there can be no signal. 3rd one: it's a variation on a "galilean cannon". A simple explanation would be: The rocket and the ball drop at the same time. When they hit the ground most of their energy is retained (since they are bouncy), but the ball cannot bounce back up utilizing all that kinetic energy since the rocket is falling onto it as the ball is compressed. In stead, part of the kinetic energy of the ball is transferred to the rocket. Since the rocket is relatively light, it will travel very fast.

2:40 The wire mesh acts as a Faraday cage which interferes with and blocks certain frequencies, in this case, radio waves. 4:23 When the ball hits the surface, the shock wave travels down into the surface and bounces back up again, and the kinetic energy is transferred into the rocket thing, which is then pushed up with the force that came from the fall.

For the rubber ball rocket experiment; the ball and straw rocket hit the ground at the same time with the same velocity. if they would have fallen separately, the ball would have bounced back with the same height but the straw rocket would have bounced back at height lesser than that of the ball due to less mass. Force experienced by both of them would be different with the straw rocket experiencing lesser force due to lesser mass. Lets say mass of the straw rocket is 'm' and mass of the rubber ball is 'M'. So the reaction force experienced by straw rocket would be F=m*g and force experienced by rubber ball would be F=M*g Apparently, force experienced by the rubber ball is greater than the force experienced by the straw rocket when dropped separately due to greater mass. But here the straw rocket is attached with the rubber ball and experiences the same force, F=M*g, of reaction as that of the rubber ball and thus it goes higher with that force due to lighter mass than the rubber ball.

That cell phone experiment may explain why some places are cellular dead zones even if they are near a cellular towers. If a building had that assortment of metals in it's structure or any other kind of metals known to cause interference in cell phones, then if you walked in a certain room, you'd probably receive less of a signal than in a clear zone or none at all. It may depend on where the cell tower is and where the interfering metal is facing in relation to that tower. This may also explain why Wi-Fi is better in one room than another.

Your phone is being shielded because you have created a faraday cage and it can not be reached because the phone can't connect to a tower to tell the service where it is, so the service assumes that your phone is turned off or you are not in a service area and those calls are forwarded to the voicemail service for that phone provider which supplies the services for the phone that can't be reached.

6:30 the reason this mat can lift the table is because of the pressure in the mat when you try to lift it. Think about how when you put a glass up to your mouth and suck out all the air, the glass will stick to your mouth and your lips begin to get sucked into the glass. This is the same thing but in a different scenario. When you try to lift the mat, the volume of the space in the centre will increase but the amount of air in there will stay the same and therefore the air pressure decrases and tries to suck something up to even the pressure, and that force of sucking up the table is strong enough to lift it. It is the same as when you get a hole in a spaceship, because there is no air in space, there is no pessure, and everything in the spaceship will be sucked out.

The reaction rocket works by inertia, just like you said. The ball is a "storage" of potential elastic energy. When you drop the ball without the little rocket, the energy it gets from falling is transformed in impulse and it jumps. When the little rocket is in the straw, and both of them fall, the rubber ball touches the surface under it, and it starts to transform the energy in impulse. Because of inertia, the rocket continues to go down. It applies energy on the ball, aswell. That way, the energy is passed to the rocket and it flies. It's the same thing that happens in those videos where people put dogs on top of gymnastic balls.

If anybody is wondering how the rocket works it goes like this:The kinetic energy from the force of impact between the ball and the table makes it bounce but that energy is transferred to the rocket resulting in the ball not bouncing as high and the rocket flying in the air, so the more energy passed to the rocket the higher it goes.

Would be helpful if you described *why* is happens. Let me help you: - the molecules in a light emit visible light when electrons inside them fall back from a excited state to the natural state. Putting high voltage on them (from whatever source, for whatever reason) puts electrons in the excited state. But they want to fall back, always. So...light. - a cell phone talks to a base station. Putting a cell phone in a Gaussian cage makes it almost impossible to talk to the base station. So the cellular network's short-term response is to pretend that the phone is not available. Usually because the user it in an elevator, bank vault, or other metal structure. This is not science. It is anecdotes. Fun to watch, but it is like watching a kid ask why a car moves.

3:10 the reason this happens is because of the mass of the two obejcts (the rubber ball and the rocket) Because the rubber ball has a high mass compared to the rocket, it can hold more energy (which in this case is the momentum) without bouncing too high. However, when the ball hits the rocket, the energy of the momentum passes through the ball and into the rocket, and since the rocket has a much lower mass and alot of energy being pushed into it, it wont be able to handle the energy and go flying.

The foil and strainer make what is known as a "faraday cage" radio signals cannot pass through a mesh where the hole size is smaller than wavelength for the radio signal. Depending on exact construction you it will either reflect the radio signal or if you get it exactly right absorb it (this only works for one frequency).

With the reaction rocket, my closest guess after learning about Newtons 3 laws and force, my thought is that when the ball hits the table with the rocket, it takes the force of the rubber ball bouncing back up. It flies off since there is added weight (the plastic piece at the end), and since it's pushed off in the other direction.

The straw and ball experiment works because the straw absorbs the energy that would cause the ball to bounce and instead the straw flies up and the ball doesn't bounce as much because there's almost no energy left.

Hi Crazy Russian Hacker :) For the Reaction Rocket experiment I have this explanation. When you let the rocket go it acquires kinetic energy which reaches a maximum just before it hits the table. This energy is transferred to the table which goes nowhere, thus returns it back to the ball. The ball, being elastic, absorbs most of the energy given back by the table and then gives it, in turn, to the rocket, which being very light shoots upwards with high acceleration (higher than gravity since it jumps upwards). Now, when the rocket is not there the ball cannot transfer the energy to it, so it will simply use that same energy it gave before to the rocket, this time pushing itself away from the table. So, in the case where the rocket is there it is the rocket which gains the kinetic energy from the ball, transferred to, and returned by, the table. In the case where there is no rocket the ball has nothing to transfer the energy to so it will use it itself to jump off. Hope I was clear :)

for the ball and straw experiment thats not Newtons 1st law (inertia) its Newtons 3rd law: For Every action there is an opposite reaction. its kind of like when a baseball bat hits a ball off a tee, the ball is stationary and the bat is moving, when they make contact, the bat stops and the ball goes. in other words, when the bouncy ball hits the ground the energy from that travels to the straw instead and makes that fly. ;p

the pressure from the straw against the ball once it hit the table. for example, if you drop 2 balls parallel to each other (vertically) the top ball will bounce against the bottom ball which causes the bottom ball to bounce to the ground. sorry for being confusing .
