Retrievers were bred for hunting fowl. They were bred to literally bring prey item (duck) to their owner and not chew on it 💀
@durabelle Жыл бұрын
I wonder if the dogs themselves have any idea why they're doing it? Like, we as humans can understand how it's an isolated part of their hunting behaviour, and we've selected them so that they only search for, grab and carry prey, but for them it must sometimes feel quite pointless. Yet they keep doing it, because something inside them tells them to.

And then there's these others, for example retrievers and herding dogs, that do only parts, which would lead into their death if we weren't feeding them 🤣

15:42 When I was in my teens, we lived in a fairly remote area with no close neighbors. We had chickens, and let them be free-range. However, then we got an Irish Setter that had great "birder" instincts. The problem was that she had a tendency to "retrieve" our chickens. She'd come trotting into the yard with a chicken in its mouth and then let it go. She never harmed the chicken and it was fine, if frazzled, afterward. The issue was that it did upset the chicken, and nervous chickens tend not to lay. We finally had to resort to keeping the chickens in a fenced area in order to spare them the stress.

that last bit reminds me of a story I heard somewhere on yt, where an advanced maths course (I have dyslexia and dyscalclia so I no maths/word good) had this homework assignment /project due every week or month or whatever. the students hacked into the teachers account to see the answers. he used progressively more complex maths as his passwords or something. he passed all the stufents part of the team of who were doing harder work to cheat than the actual assignments and gave them recommendations on other programs they could get into to further their skills. sorry. that was rambly I just took my migraine medicine and my head is still foggy

20:19 this reminded me of when the Mario movie came out, my best friend and I went to Kroger before our showing and bought turkey jerky, strawberries, and cubed cheese. We had a mini charcuterie in our mostly-empty theater, and it was one of our best theater experiences we had together. We made sure we cleaned everything up ourselves (not that we made a mess in the first place) and it was a really great time. Cheaper than popcorn, too, and it didn’t hurt my stomach as much as the theater popcorn does

The Dog that brought her owner the duck was actually just doing what she was bred to do! That's a Golden Retriever, they were originally bred for the purpose of retrieving game birds that hunters had shot, very often for them, waterfowl like ducks. It's likely Violet just felt the instinct to bring her person a duck!

The whole scooping up the water thing reminds me of when I was working at dairy queen. The machines started malfunctioning and as a consequence the place started flooding. The mop wasn't picking up the water fast enough so we started using the butler to scoop up the water. The only problem (other than the fact the place was flooding) was that there was an electrical outlet in the middle of the floor that we had to keep surrounding with towels so we wouldn't be electrocuted

30:30 I recall this massive yes/no test. The answers had leaked beforehand, but as I arrived late at the class I was handed the answers only a few minutes before the test started. So I took my answer sheet (you'd have a block of paper with a template on it for your name, class, grade, etc and a just lines below that) and wrote down how often each answer would come before changing in order (so a bunch of numbers like 1,2,1,5,3,2,1). Then I placed something on top of it and destroyed the answers. For some reason the teacher was super paranoid that day and as they carefully walked between the students (mind you, due to my lateness I was right in front of the teacher's desk) and suddenly grabbed (I believe it was my étui), triumphantly hoisted it up in the air to look at my answer sheet... and apparently decided "oh, it's just a bunch of numbers" before placing my étui back xD I nearly burst out laughing as they walked on. Made a few deliberate mistakes and got one of my higher grades :P Also shout out to my classmate and friend next to me. They may have been late too, not sure, but they got the answers shortly before the start too and did the same thing. Except they accidentally switched the starting answer (no instead of yes or vice versa) so their only correct answers were the 'deliberate mistakes' and got one of their worst grades xD

20:20 I've heard about this, the reason movie theater snacks are overpriced is because the movie production companies like Universal take most of the revenue made from selling movie tickets, so movie theaters intentionally overprice the snacks to make back that lost revenue.

The golden retriever was not trying to save the duck, it was trying to retrieve it and show it to its owner. A golden retriever is a bird dog, used in hunting. While a golden retriever does not kill a bird, its soft mouth allows for it to carry a dead bird without damaging the body. I used to have a golden retriever and she definitely lived up to the retriever part of her name even towards the end of her life. She once leaped up to grab a bird that had gotten into the house while it was flying around erratically. She released it and it was traumatized but unharmed, which allowed us to safely grab the bird before one of the cats could get hold of it.
