Can we go to warp speed? Neil deGrasse Tyson and comedian Chuck Nice answer a grab bag of fan questions about the expansion of the universe, warp speed, Neptune, & 4D Life.
What is the question that Neil wishes people would ask him? Learn about the discovery of Uranus and how Newton's Laws helped discover Neptune. What is the future of the culinary arts on other planets? Would we need a different cookbook for the moon and Mars?
Is warp drive for interstellar travel possible? Learn how warpspeed would work, wormholes, and the limits we put on ourselves. Do we have a unit of speed in which we travel through time? How do you deal with science deniers?
How does space continue to grow? Can we slow it down? Find out why Neil loses sleep over dark energy. Could there be life in the second and first dimensions? Or is life in higher dimensions looking at us? Would a pillow be fluffy in space? Do photons have mass? All that, plus, Chuck has some special news for StarTalk fans…
Thanks to our Patrons Donald bunch, Chris Plotts, Elle Gee, Michael Libby, and Moses Conrad Norman III for supporting us this week.

@@markthebldr6834 While the rest of planet Earth is centered in actual reality, right? Look, being uneducated and/or refusing to educate, does NOT mean the educated person is condescending anyone. That is a misguided and false belief created by minds incapable of critical thought and common sense. Used to somehow help the uneducated feel better about their life choices and the reality that they will probably not go very far in life unless they begin making better decisions. Try defining a word as educated minds do before attempting to use it in a sentence. Now THOSE TWO previous sentences were condescension. There IS a difference between advising a person of factual information and actual condescension. Educators who condescend students are ALWAYS replaced, their careers destroyed. It is exactly why we do not always know their names. They do not survive in the workplace very long whatsoever.

@@OfTheVoid Being a communicator is about being entertaining as much as you are teaching and Neil's audience is the general public. If you're such an enlightened intellectual who can't be bothered to have science explained to you in plain speech, simply move on and endeavor to gain some perspective on who needs the education more and in what form it is painlessly digested. Your repeated conspiracy-centered viewpoint over people you don't personally like is a naïve mindset that has already poisoned and irreparably damaged the greater discourse surrounding science communication. We do not wish for it to gain ground in the discourse surrounding this, highbrow or otherwise. Of all the things to discuss about a channel specifically about simplifying science, criticizing how Neil caters to the general public and not a panel of Nobel laureates is laughably humdrum.

Someone who tries to educate to raise people up, makes an innocent mistake, & bam, 'See, that person is fake & 'victimising' people.. 🤦‍♀️ Once you stop seeing everyone as being against you & the world, the world starts working in your favour.. It's mainly people who's whole public & self-perception rely on a few ideas, so they have to double-down, cos that's all they have to hang their hat on.. With people like Tyson their whole self-perception & public perception does not rely on those little points .. I have seen these non-factual comments under Startalk videos for FAR TOO LONG. Here is your opportunity to objectively prove a hypothesis. Show us ANY INSTANCE WHATSOEVER of Neil interrupting ANYONE who was not in the middle of stating non-scientific claims and/or other non-factual nonsense. Go ahead, objectively prove the hypothesis. Us educated will wait. By the way, when it comes to lies and conspiracy nonsense, interruption IS the correct action. EVERY TEACHER does that very thing when a child's parents begin "teaching" them about mythical "lizard alien humans". Or when a child, thanks to uneducated parent(s), arrives to school in none other than a damn maga hat DESPITE the child not even understanding why daddy wears it, much less why such a hat actually exposes a lack of basic common sense and intelligence more than it has ever done ANYTHING else. COMPULSORY EDUCATION. Obeying and compliance with that lone federal law will open up reality in ways uneducated minds could never invent within their own head. Again, objectively prove your false claim. If it is based upon reality, it SHOULD be rather easy to accomplish.

I don’t think a pillow would flatten in a vacuum. I think Neil is thinking about what happens when you vacuum the air out of a pillow, for instance, in a plastic bag, but it only flattens in this case because of the air pressure around the bag pressing it inwards without anything to keep it pressed outward in its customary shape. A pillow jettisoned into a vacuum would have its gaseous interior dissipate, but there would be no atmospheric pressure causing it to flatten. I think it’s a more interesting question than he thought. The air in the interior, if anything, might actually apply an outward pressure as it evacuated from the pillow, causing it to puff up as the gas escapes, and then return to its original shape. This is all assuming that the pillow is a feather down pillow, and not something made of airtight cels. A ziplock baggie that was full of air, similarly, would probably pop in a vacuum, but if it was unzipped, it would lose the gas without flattening, because there would be no outside atmospheric pressure to cause it to go flat.

Never thought about it that way, talking about time travel. Like, I thought about landing in the same place where you took off. For example, if I wanted to see the built of a 100 year old building, the first stone was placed. And I was next to the building so I could arrive at the time desired. Would I land in that same location that I did the time jumping? My thought was that due to earths rotation, I would probably take off from a place in Texas and land somewhere in Africa. Now that he says it, you might end up somewhere in earth's orbit in space, but not on earth. This is never in the movies😂. And is a time jump the same thing as time travel or is there a difference 🤔?

HEY NEIL! I need help with my new years resolution. I've figured out how to change the stars by stopping hurricanes. What I mean is, for stopping hurricanes, I get 7 things and one of those 7 things is to change the stars. My idea for changing the stars includes Orion and Pleiades (Subaru). I figure it's time to put something up there that's relevant to us, don't you think? Take Orion's belt and Betelgeuse becomes the head with a baseball hat. Below the belt are two legs bending at the knee. The feet aligning perfectly under the bent knees. The 3 stars of Orion's belt align perfectly as the 3 fat belt loops on a baseball uniform. The spear pointing at "Subaru" is the bat being swung and "Pleiades" is the baseball flying away after being hit. Put it all together and you get, "THE ALL-STAR." In my case I drew a 7 on the jersey to make him, "Mickey," but you can put any number you want. I really have figured out how to change the stars by stopping hurricanes. Don't worry, I've technically already done the easy part and changed the stars. My parents were teachers and for over 3 decades, they taught their students my constellation. Those kids will teach their kids. So on and so on. See, stars changed. I just need help to make it legit and with the rest. No, I'm not kidding. Yes, I'm serious. Figured Neil has taken on the IAU and won, he can help. If, rather when, my idea for stopping hurricanes works it could be converted to a larger scale and EASILY regulate temperature, end drought, stop wildfires. It'd be wrong of me to not, at least, try. This is me, trying. Will you please reach out to me and let me know that your interested in helping to stop hurricanes and change the stars? Thank you and don't worry, where I come from, crazy is a compliment. ;-P To be clear, I need help with stopping hurricanes.

Concerning the conference of astrophysicists in London this 27th of April 2024 and listening to you talking about what has been heavily discussed there already a year before is just amazing. (Hope not getting banned from the channel for the amount of postings.)

As a student I disliked chemistry, especially the atomic table, until, in my old age, Dr Tyson turned up on KZbin, and made it fun! One strong proof that, not just the subject but the teacher that moulds a person to attain excellence in any feild of human endeavour.

Awesome idea for a comedy special Chuck! Should be great, I'm normally not that into stand up comedy but that sounds like it would be super entertaining! Lovely!

"You can't be bringing the recipe off the Campbell's cream of mushroom soup to the pot luck." I understand what you mean, but you can if you live in rural Minnesota. Here's an example. Where I work we had a chili cookoff. I asked the guy who won the cookoff for his recipe. Turns out everything in the recipe came from a can, except the chili seasoning which came from a pouch that said "McCormick Chili Seasoning Mix". The saddest thing is, it was actually the best chili in the contest. Minnesota has a lot of great things, but in general the food goes downhill the further from the equator you go, and Minnesota is pretty far from it.

Mr Tyson has reminded us in several videos that we would have to be aware of the exact time and exact location from the perspective of our galaxy or even universe when time traveling. I wonder if those constant changes and fluctuations are why the quantum level is so uncertain and probabilistic.

Thank you for making a scientific comedy special! Come tour in Huntsville, AL. There are plenty of us that are not only competent, but enthusiastic about scientific hilarity. I would do my best to be in the front row! Dr. Tyson, thank you for giving us the gift of education. I am not strong in math beyond Calculus; I am able to learn about my obsession despite my cognitive shortcomings. Your my personal guide to a mindset beyond the mundane.

Dr. Tyson. I plan you see you in New York on the 20th. My birthday is on the 21st. First, what is the website to be able to ask questions/support you? Second, do you allow questions after your lectures? Or EVEN BETTER, it'd be the best and most memorable birthday I would've EVER had if I could meet you and ask you a few questions in person. If not, 😢 but I have at least 3 questions I NEED your perspective and genius on these questions

Way too many teachers have done nothing but lecture without even trying to meet me where I am. All they would do is spit, coffee and cigarette flavoured words at me and expect me to make all the effort to be honoured enough to absorb what their perfect, genius minds had to say.
