This is a lovely recipe! We always have a lot of tuna cans here, albacore usually, for we are in the San Francisco Bay area and its pat of our rotating earthquake ready food stock, along with plenty f past. I rotate this food stock to prevent aging, so Im always looking for recipes other than treat dinners for the dogs, and tuna salad sandwiches, which fortunately, I love (just add basil!). I never thought of this type recipe, and we always have pasta and these ingredients handy. Thank you!

OMG! This looks AMAZING! We happen to have a lot of tuna right now as well as a few pounds of spaghetti (well, one pounds of spaghetti and two pounds of angel hair, but they're basically the same thing), so I think I might try to make this tomorrow for dinner. Of course, with my onion allergy the shallots will be left out, but I'm going to substitute some sliced mushrooms (which goes amazingly in a creamy dish like this anyways). I think I might add the cheese during the cooking as opposed to just putting it on top at the end (or ad some during cooking and let my family add more on top to their own taste). I am cooking for a family of four, all of us with fairly large appetites, so I will be using AT LEAST a pound of pasta, possibly two pounds so there will be leftovers to enjoy later, so (unless you say otherwise) I'm guessing I should just increase the other ingredients in proportion to the pasta (you used eight ounces, so double everything for a pound or quadruple for two pounds). I can't wait to see how it comes out!

Just double up on all the ingredients and you will be good to go! Much love :)

I did it!! Came out a little thicker, could of took the pasta right out of the stock pot like you said. missed a couple of other tips you gave, I notice when you shake out the oil it already is distributed in the pan, no swirling necessary. If my wife liked fish she could of enjoyed this dish with me. All mine!

This looks delicious; can’t wait to try it. I do have a question…instead of using olive oil in the pan why not use the oil the tuna came in? (Seems like you might get an even richer sauce, right?). Thanks-as always-for another get tutorial!

@Kimberley D ... Yes, I always use the oil in canned fish, Kimberley. You get even more Omega-3 goodness that way, fish oils being of proven benefit to brain health but often lacking in modern diets.

A hint here: When adding salt to pasta water, add it when the water is already boiling. If salt is added to cold water, it settles at the bottom of the pot and will react with the metal (there's no such worries with emaille pots), producing some weird stains at the bottom of the pot even if the pot is "stainless steel". If added to boiling water, this will not happen as the salt will immediately dissolve in the water.
