I have been binge watching your videos like they were the next hit Netflix series or something. LOL! No, seriously - I have! I've published 3 KDP books over the past 3 weeks. I know - slow... but I am also very ill and bedbound, so I am working on it as and when I feel strong enough. I am desperate to create some sort of "passive" income stream (although I know in reality none of it is passive at all) because I live in the states and I can't afford the medical care I urgently need. I've been bed/wheelchair bound for 4 years now, and am also trying to care for my 94 year old Dad who lives in my home. He lives downstairs and I live upstairs - I monitor him via little webcams and have hospice care for him for an hour a day - but we need more care. I thought if I could maybe come up with some ways to earn a buck or two online it might help. I'm very, very ill - but I'm also willing to give it a go! Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for your fantastic collection of videos here. They've been ever so inspiring, and I've learned a lot. I am kicking myself over some mistakes I made on my first KDP book that I realised AFTER I watched your videos (whoops) but hey - I'm learning! Hopefully each of my books will be an improvement upon the last. Thanks, Paul! 🙂

Regarding the duplicating of the pages, there's a shortcut trick. Just click the page button beside the zoom to go to grid view. Then select your page and press hold ctrl+D. 🙂

I am new to this and trying to learn, I just needed to make sure. When we say 120 pages, it means back-to-back? Right? Not, 120 sheets? Meaning, when I put 120 pages, it actually means the book is only 60 sheets thick.

When making a duplicate of your interior on Canva , you can go to the grid view in the lower right corner and highlight and duplicate more than one page at time. You select all and then left click to duplicate , it will double each time so you get one page , 2, 4, 8, 16, etc.. added to your pages. It’s a little quicker than just clicking to duplicate 100 or more times!

Thank you so much for all the videos! I used this video step by step to create my first kdp journal! I have a couple of questions that came up when submitting: I got an error that said I submitted a 6x9 interior but submitted one with the slightly larger measurements you gave. I just chose the option for them to format it anyway. Then Amazon rejected it because it said I couldn't have "journal" on the cover because it connotes that it's bound. It seems like "notebook" would be even more of a problem, so it doesn't make sense to me. Any insight would be much appreciated.

For books under 150 pages, the margin requirements are 0.375" on all sides. So the shortcut would be to set up your pages with bleed(even if your design has no bleed), so you do not have to care about the margin differences for left right pages. But I'm wondering if the printed result will look any different from a book set up without bleed(no trimming done)? Or is it practically indistinguishable?
@paulmarles2 жыл бұрын
It should look the same but you may get an error warning if none of the pages actually have bleed.

As always: creating whatever book or books is the (very) easy part. Selling them, is the (most) improbable part. When you create a book like this and upload it, it will just become another never-to-be-seen book among the thousands of similar ones already floating in the (Amazon) cloud, destined to never be seen, never to make a sale, let alone make many sales. I'm sorry to be a party-pooper, but starry-eyed newcomers need to know the reality too.

Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you're right.
@wouterswanepoel57532 жыл бұрын
@@katehall2027 And thus you're wrong Katie. It's not about THINKING, it's about REALITY. And the reality is that only a minute percentage of the thousands upon thousands of starry-eyed "creators" ever sell a book. I watched a video only yesterday of someone thinking of himself as a "successful" creator. He made $120 000 in FOUR years ($30 000 per year, or $2 500 per month), but from ... wait for it ... 4 200 books! He also admits that less than 5% of his books ever made a sale, meaning that the time and effort spent on creating 3 990 books (at almost 1 000 books per year) were a complete waste. Bottom line: He made, on average, $2 500 per month. The average KFC salary in the USA is $29,221 per year. He would have been better off selling KFC.
@FFTS2 жыл бұрын
Yep. I made 12 books 4 months ago and I can't even find them. Zero sales and most likely zero views. It was disheartening enough for me to quit spending the 4 to 7 hours to make and upload a book.
@wouterswanepoel57532 жыл бұрын
@@FFTS There we go! And that is/was the story of thousands upon thousands of starry-eyed future "multi-millionaires", myself included. The only "successful" creators are those who got in early a few years ago and thus gained a lasting advantage.

Thank you for a thorough explanation. I'm in the process of creating my first gratitude journal with canva. With the free account, it'll let me save as PDF Print but I have drop down options for color profile which only let's me select RGB. The CMYK profile is for Pro account only. So hopefully it won't matter with the black and wife interior but it probably won't work for full colored cover.

I normally save and publish all mine in RGB and haven't had any problems with color. As you said, for a B&W interior it doesn't matter at all.

I just recently found your videos and must say you are a great teacher, I love how you make it so easy to understand. Canva is not so easy I get all the way to a little after 12 mins following your steps, on the group part where you say to click on group and hit position then backwards, but my backwards is grayed out and wont let me hit it.

Big watcher of your videos... learning huge here I want to why cover size Is 12.52 x 9.25 and interior is 6.125 x 9.25
@paulmarles2 жыл бұрын
That page size is because the page has bleed i.e. the lines go right to the edges of the pages. The cover size is that becasue that's the size, with bleed and the spine thickness.

@@paulmarles page turn left to right is correct not a typo? In my head I'm picturing a book in my hand. Front cover in left...Then I turn the right page toward the left. Or is that just the cover page turning from left to right when closing the book?
