I think it's perfectly okay for you to say that you don't really care about fashion or being chic or overly poised or whatever. You can just be neatly dressed and that is perfectly fine.

How to create a seasonal capsule: pretend you’re packing to go away for two weeks, same season. Work, play, going out, gym, lounge and nightwear. That’s the capsule. You automatically pick what fits, goes together, and is in good repair. Oh, and for me, red is a neutral!

I don't renovate on holidays but we have a house and garden and there is always something to be done. I don't go to the gym or workout on trips too. So best stick to the activities not to holidays.

I agree that there's enough of a contrast for those colours to look nice together, just like light blue pairs well with navy blue.

I struggle with formatting a capsule wardrobe. My mind functions best by choosing matched sets, kind of like Garanamals for adults.

it's hard for sure!

I laughed so hard at the garanimals 😂😂 Edit-In all seriousness, I find it helpful to lay the, say, black skirt on the bed, and then find 2-3 tops to go with that The lay the favorite jeans down and find 2-3 tops with that, and so on I like To see it work together too 😊 I don’t think it helps to pick out favorites . But then still don’t Know what to wear if I haven’t paired things. That’s my brain

In the KZbin Sewing community there is a concept of sewing in modules. You pick fabrics thar work well together and sew 6-7 items that can all mix and match. 3 tops, 2 bottoms, 1 topper (Think cardigan or cami or jacket to layer with) and some people add a 1 piece like a dress or..... the word coming to mind is a romper or onesie, which is the kid term. Lol. That way you have multiple combos that work together, and then you can do another in a different color scheme you like or maybe you do a few modules for work clothes and a few for weekends or something.

I would say: go with it! Create/buy matching sets. Make it Your Style, if it makes you happy. Cheers!

I am down to 4 outfits for spring and summer and three for fall and winter. I have a light weight , jacket that is lightweight but more dressy, and a winter coat. I have one pair if boots , 3 pair of slide on shoes and one pair of dress shoes. It's great! One setback, always doing laundry. 🤣

I'm down to four pair of leggings and two pair of jeans, for my winter wardrobe. Now I need to eliminate some shirts and sweaters. My goal is to be able to fit both my summer and winter wardrobes in one closet; not including winter coats and jackets of which I have many that I love and use.

I worked at Macy’s for years in furniture/mattresses and we were required to wear black. We could wear an inner top (like a camisole and cardigan on top) that could be another colour but everything else but shoes had to be black. I didn’t tend to buy anything I couldn’t wear for work so when I opened my closet it looked like I was an undertaker. I retired 7 years ago and still have a lot of black but I’m weeding it out more and more. It’s basic but now I like it for shoes and handbags more.

@@cb9825 honestly, back then I wasn't wearing elastic waist, I just had pants in 2 sizes. My weight fluctuates enough now though they might make sense.

I used to work in an office in Chicago. I made a chart of all the combinations I could make with solid colors I liked. Black, navy, brown, and gray slacks, and red, blue, jade green, and gray tops, then 4 different cardigans. I also had some fun earrings and big pins. This was 20 years ago. I never wear pastels. Now, I have even fewer nice clothes. Tina, Al's wife

Robin, you are a Winter. Jewel tones will look great on you: think sapphire, Ruby, emerald, amethyst. Muted colors look muddy on you. No earth tones. Grey, navy and black are your neutral colors. White as well. I love your wardrobe! You inspire me to get going on mine!

For summer I made matched sets of outfits- shorts and tshirts. It was awesome! I hung the outfit on the same hanger so all I had to do was grab and go. We have such variable weather now though in this season so I was thinking of doing more of a capsule style wardrobe too. I decluttered all the pattern leggings I realized I don’t even like, I just always wear black ones!

Me, too. My Fall and Winter wardrobe has been dark colors all my life. I'm tired of dark! So I'm slowly adding tops in lighter colors, like soft pink or baby blue sweaters and turtlenecks. It lightens my mood!

Pinterest is great for coming up with ideas (not sure if this was mentioned) by typing in the unique piece + ideas. Eg white puffer vest outfit ideas. Or coral pants outfit ideas. This helped me with pieces i wasn't wearing often until they were decluttered. My "capsule" now basically comsists of "wear every thing in season until time to do laundry again." About three wks lol
