Sometimes its good to use knife on plane and cut out those doors and really slightly extrude them inside/outside to give overall mode more depth/details. Then you just need to unstretch uv map and its done. The same goes for any windows or holes(like that one on top of doors in reference image).

I don't think the sides are planks maybe they are, I can't see them closely enough to really know. maybe it's metal. It looks rusty to me. Which is why they go vertical and aren't plank shaped, really. Just vertical semi-plank shapes that show that burnt orange rust color and a very light color that I think is a kind of metal. OR it's rust dripping down from the metal roof. Nice tut.

Hi! Thanks for your work, you're a great teacher. May I ask a question? I'm still very new to 3D modeling and I've been following along with your beginner tutorials where we were making walls and roofs from separate shingles and planks. But this here is a completely different approach. So I wonder how (and whether) each of them is used in real 3d modeling, e.g. not as study exercises. Which one of them is more widely used and for what purposes? This way of doing it reminds me of older video games where you could often see something like this in "background decorations" that were not meant to be interactive. But is that all, or it can be used for any purpose now? Can this be used for, say, the main object in a static environmental scene? Or it won't look good enough even with a normal map and this kind of work would require more detailed models?
@grabbitt3 жыл бұрын
one creates a lot more polygons which wont work so well in game engines and increases render times
@user-kk4hg7im1k3 жыл бұрын
@@grabbittThank you. I can see that, but does this mean that the method you show here is all-around more preferable regardless of the intended use?

From what I have read, materialize does not export to 16 bit textures, which means you are stuck with lots of jaggies if you are rendering at higher resolutions.

ah interesting so it looks like photoshop or gimp is the best solution :)

Thank you for this tutorial. Is there a way to tell Blender the real world size of objects (in this case the barn) so that based on the size of the each mesh the UV unwrap would work much better and perfectly accurate (aspect ratio and size)? Thank you for your help !

Yeah blender units are equivalent to a meter
