Hello! Like all of us I'm scared of what Adobe did to Allegorithmic. I'm looking forward to see how Mixer becomes not only material creation software but also a complete 3D painting software (seems that aligns with your plans). I'm proud to be part of Mixer beta! Keep up good work!

I've been working in the VFX industry for over 20 years. But I have never been so blown away by a software app like I am right now! You guys have re-kindled my love for CGI work again. I mean it. Bloody awesome! I mean it looks like we will be modeling with textures from now on, something I never thought would ever happen, not at this high quality anyway. Keep it up, Dudes!

Although Quixel Mix can be used perfectly with images external to megascans, I consider that its great potential lies in the use of the library. Otherwise, its native procedural tools are very good but sustance is much more comprehensive for now.

if someone still has issues, i got it to work by painting the whole layer white(then just paint with black to remove the tiles). and if you press X, it switches the brush color from white to black, or black to white. Its also supposed to have a shortcut for inverting the mask (CTRL+I) but doesnt work for me and i dont have it in my shortcut list, so might've been removed.

Let me explain the paint mask's problem. I've tried several times and have got the final result as in the tutorial. In the Paint Mask, the white value area means that you can paint on it and the black value area means you can't do so. In the tutorial, the artist painted BOTH black value and white value on EVERY marble layer. Unfortunately, he made a cut of doing this part. BTW, if you want to block a tile on the lasted layer( the white layer in the tutorial), you need to paint a black mask on each of the following layers.

You can compare Mixer with Substance Alchemist. It is a tool to mix materials in a very easy and fast way. But for procedural material creation Designer is the best tool.
@myxsys5 жыл бұрын
I think this workflow beats substance designer hands down. Being able to create textures like this also saves a lot of time that would have been spent on other techniques like sculpting to create the same texture.
@Andreas-gr2qu5 жыл бұрын
But you need a Megascan subscription to create this type of materials. In Substance Designer you can create a procedural material from scratch. I like Mixer, but i also use the Substance tools. Mixer is very limited on procedural generation possibilities. You can compare Mixer with Substance Alchemist. It is a other way of creating materials.
@Nova-ul3vv5 жыл бұрын
This is really awesome technology! I just have a noob question, if it comes to using a texture like this in a game or just a scene, for instance as a ground material. Does it not get to repetitive? This texture has very special noticeable features, do you just add different objects to hide this fact that you use the same texture over and over again?

This is possibly one of the worst tutorials I have ever tried. I'm a new user of mixer and right from the start it is incredibly vague, "Add this rough concrete" there are only a few concrete textures pre-installed none of which look remotely like what he is choosing. I go online and there are hundreds of them all under the subject of "Rough concrete" so I try the closest one and move on. He then "Wraps to base".... There is no wrap to base slider. I'm guessing this tutorial is wildly out of date at this point as the nearest slider to the description is "Wrap to underlying". At this point I totally give up on this tutorial. Thumbs down.

Give me a job as a creative director, and I'll show you how to make this software usable for every possible problem one could encounter.

Hi! The simple answer is time :D Mixer was originally built by a really small team from the ground up, but in the recent months the team size has grown significantly. You will soon see the pace of new features being added pick up (and hopefully over time covering most of the things you suggested, seeing as most of it is already on the road map!) :)
@TransposeScanning6 жыл бұрын
@@teddybergsman5358 Those are the features that should have been started with. Allegorithmic and Artomatix I spoke with almost 2 years ago about this. If I had a team, and the funding, I would immediately begin on selection, cloning, and pasting features. The bedrock of making things go quickly
