Create Jinx's Grenade in Maya 2022: Start UV Mapping (3/6)

Hi Creators,
Now that the model is complete, it is time to UV map! In this video tutorial, we will be going over how to UV map Jinx's grenade from Arcane. We'll be covering all sorts of tools including projections, transfer UVs, and more!
Also, learn from my mistakes... and SAVE often!

Adorable Monica your series will never going boring I love every each of em and every other single video that you upload but Automatic UV mapping is working very well with me But before I Project I delete the history and sometimes I freeze coords and like that I get a very nice UV map and also I have this settings in the Automatic UV windows Planes : 6 Optimize for : Fewer pieces Insert Projection before deformers is checked shell layout : into square scale mode : Uniform shell stacking : Bounding Box Spacing Preset : 512 Percentage Space : 0.2 And everything else is off and thank you for the video again

If you want cool textures, you have to UV! It's relaxing after a while (unless it crashes) 😄

Is it necessary to unwrap thing which we are only giving solid colour?

If it's a solid color, no you do not have to UV map. If you want to make it look unique with scratches and all sorts of details, then you have to UV! :)

Monica. I’ve been a Maya used for about 20 years now….but as you know it’s so fragmented in having so many little functions and tick boxes, sometimes it’s the tiniest thing. Lately, I’ve I pressed some weird key and the damn projections have disappeared. I’ve been trying to find on the internet of how to turn it back on, but struggling to find out where. Now I can reset my Maya, but I’ve got just the right customisation so before I do that, maybe you can help? In a quick summary, in case you don’t know what I’m referring to…. When you select a face, and press lets say the planar projection, you’d normally see the projection rectangular mode thingie pop up over the selected face, so you can rotate it how you like, before them verifying, and moving onto the next selection of faces. Do you know which shortcut key it is, or where in the menu I have turned that off? It’s soooo annoying! Thank you if you can help. If you not, thanks anyway. You’re great!!

are you gonna combine them together for 1 material or use UDIMs?

I'm going to combine them into the 0-1 space and use overlapping UVs. That's the plan, at least!

@@AcademicPhoenixPlus sounds like a solid plan would save a lot of space with the overlapping UVs as well.
