5yrs after this video post and I must thank you. I FINALLY understand the missing piece of the puzzle for my portrait art. I’ve watched countless videos, read numerous articles, blogs, etc. on color theory, and this video was the only one to make the “ah-ha” connection in my brain. It has perplexed me as to why I’ve struggled with the concept of making accurate shadows, which is seemingly straightforward, so thank you for providing the piece that made it click in my brain.

This is a great video. I have been working on mastering this skill in my coloring. I can not believe I have been coloring as long as I have and just recently realized I never use this technique because I often just grab a warm or cool gray which does not work in yellow tones at all. This fixes the issue.

I recently got into adult coloring. I bought Prismacolors thinking it would help me be good at it, but I failed miserably. All I needed was a little help, which I found in your channel. You have inspired me to keep going. Please do more art videos. If you can do some videos on adult coloring that would be great!

Elizabeth Ruiz ...very true, it isn’t so much the pencil so much as it is the person using those pencils and learning the techniques....I have seen images colored with some of the more expensive pencils, and it looks like some one used Crayola, only the scribbled it in....yet, I have seen (as well as have done so myself) images done with just Crayola that were beautifully done....

Yes.. the videos take me a while to edit, and I had a baby a few months ago so I haven't been doing much with the videos. Plus when we had to go remote I had to churn the videos out so fast they just weren't KZbin ready!!! I do want to make a video on how to create shadows on other colors the way you are saying... for pink, it is a tint of red or magenta. So use one of those with green, then blend to the pink. So I would use magenta over green, and then when I saw it was coloring just magenta, blend to pink! Hope that makes sense.. hard to explain without a video! 🤣

Thank you for this amazing video! But I just have one question, if we can't use black can we use grey to make it darker or does that make it look messy as well?
@jennaturin98855 жыл бұрын
I'm so happy you enjoyed the video and great (and very loaded) question! Gray is not on the color wheel, so finding the opposite color of any given gray would take a ton of experimenting, and I wouldn't recommend trying! I'm going to try to make the answer as simple as possible.. if you are talking about Crayola's Grey (not cool gray or slate) black will not make it messy looking, but won't make a super realistic shadow. You can use black with a little bit of navy blue over it in the shadows and it will look more realistic. Gray is a bunch of colors mixed together and often has a colored tone to it, so the shadows usually have a hint of color. Crayola's 'gray' is pretty neutral, but others grays that warmer or cooler won't have such great results with the black. They will blend fine but as for believable shadows there needs to be some color. Hmmm seems like I need a 'realistic gray objects video... 🤔😅. I sure hope this helps you!!! There is so much information I am leaving out so it's not too confusing!🙃

Galaxy Girl absolutely! The 100 pack has all of the same colors as the 50 pack. The took away silver and gold then added 52 more colors! Just remember to experiment and not always trust the color name- I found that ‘blue violet’ was actually redder than violet!?! Indigo works better for blue violet on the color wheel and opposite yellow orange 🤣🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️

Hey i want to ask, does this work woth faber castell classics?
@jennaturin98854 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! With more expensive pencils, you may have to layer a bit more (go back and forth with the two colors to really mix them). My The color theory is the same though! Just make sure you are using the closest you can to the genuine color wheel colors. My experience is with Crayola and Prismacolor. I have heard good things about Faber Castells though!
