31:00 surely the two star textures are meant to be individually named parameters? Right now you're using the same texture for both star slots, plus the alpha slot..
@ArghanionsPuzzlebox2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are right and I must have forgotten about it. Both the texture parameters need to be named differently so that 2 textures can be added. I messed it up.

I am having an issue with the material. It seems to be wrapping/stretching around and having two points of "origin" and I've tried multiple images, conversions to HDRI and it still isn't working. I've tried rotating the sphere to try and limit the stretching but doesn't seem to work on my end.

I'm really confused at 18:19.. how did you create that value node? did you use a keyboard shortcut?
@ArghanionsPuzzlebox2 жыл бұрын
You can keep keyboard button "1" on the keyboard pressed while you left click anywhere in the Material Editor and this will add a Value of 1 Constant for you to use.

Super awesome tutorial, exactly what I was looking for, Unreal should pay you to make this a built-in quick start template. Are you sure holding the 3 key gives you a Constant3Vector in unreal editor 5.1, when I try this I just get "33333..." in the filter text box. But I can find "Constant", "Constant2Vector" and "Constant3Vector" which seems to be what you are using in this tutorial.
@ArghanionsPuzzlebox Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can search for them like that. Odd that for you it doesn't work when you keep a number pressed and left clicking in the shader editor. Heh, I'd wish they pay me but I doubt it. I'm thinking of doing some more stuff on Udemy maybe.

great. how we can light an entire environment with HDR map with correct lighting, shadows and reflections?

There is a great Tutorial from William Faucher that shows how to do just that. Please take a look at his content.

This went correctly all the way up to adding the textures. I tried HDR, DDS, and PNG, and neither of them worked. TextureSample nodes all returned these errors: [SM5] (Node TextureSample) Cannot cast from larger type float3 to smaller type float2. [SM5] (Node TextureSample) Sampler type is Linear Color, should be Color for /Game/Skybox/Space_Alpha.Space_Alpha Also, the Sky Material will not take a Material Instance of the Skybox Material. 😐

For those who facing this problem, please make sure that your texture is HDRI format such as EXR, when u import it into unreal engine, it will show it is texture cube format in unreal engine which was same like as the video above

What do I actually apply the material to? I put it on a sphere with 2 sided lighting and scaled it way up but it looks all wrong I assume it's some other way
@elcid26512 жыл бұрын
I know it's extremely basic, but I'd love to see a tutorial on how to make a *realistic* (not purple) space scene in Unreal. As in: what I would actually see if I were in outer space right now en route to somewhere in the solar system. Just grabbing an 8k hdri star map and throwing it on a sphere doesn't work; it's still blurry and the massive file size weighs down the scene. I'm really curious how professional studios pull off this effect in a way that looks great but isn't too taxing on resources.
@ArghanionsPuzzlebox2 жыл бұрын
Hi I'm pretty sure it generally is just a texture on a sphere if it's in a video game type environment. Depending on the scene, they might use a cube (not sphere) in order to add higher texture star maps in a smaller overall texture to get a far crisper effect. I've done a similar thing in this particular showcase video where my skyboxes are far more crips than what is shown in this tutorial: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4HInZSPnad1hJI I will be covering this topic further in future videos and I might actually remaster this tutorial as I think it's a bit outdated and not concise enough.

I think this is amazing to see how everything is flying around. It would be perfect for my space scene, but I better not use it. if you could maybe just explain how to add the hdri into the scene because everything I have tried hasn't worked. that would be great. I don't have that particular space scene but I am currently searching around for one to use.
@ArghanionsPuzzlebox2 жыл бұрын
If you just want an HDRI spawned in the scene, you can always just import it into Unreal Engine and add it to a sky light (must have a sky atmosphere in the scene). There are tutorials on youtube on how to do this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHTdgmara9mspKc

@@ArghanionsPuzzlebox I just saw this reply, I am so sorry I never replied sooner. but thank you for the information. Unfortunately I can't use Unreal 5 on my computer. I have to stick with Unreal 4. I did however get a space scene into my project after I wrote this, but for some reason today, it's not working. The HDRI in Unreal has a flat surface and it's making everything stretched and some of the HDRI's that I'm getting aren't working in Unreal which is weird. And any of the textures for HDRI that I download are stretched and blurry. so If you have any suggestions on how to fix this I would appreciate it.Thank you again for the reply and I am sorry I didn't see your reply until now.

Nice tutorial! Quick question. How does one make the skybox 360 degrees? As in below the horizon level? Only half the skybox is showing the space I made. Below the horizon is completely blank.
@ArghanionsPuzzlebox2 жыл бұрын
If the skybox material is added to a sphere object and the texture is encompassing the entire texture space (the bottom half is not blank) then after applying the setup from this tutorial, it should work.

Great idea, but sadly lacking in any explanation to why things happen. this really connect the dots to make what he made, don't expect to understand why it works. He does not explain what the nodes do in terms of affecting the material. Just another dude following the Documentation and pretending its a tutorial
@ArghanionsPuzzlebox2 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry you feel that way, but a KZbin video format, in order to have any decent amount of success, can't go to lengthy amounts of explainer as it would be too long. I tried this before and most people don't watch even half of the tutorial. Please feel free to join the discord server and I can help you there directly. Most nodes have documentations of their own on what they each do. Trust me, I would love to go for hours in depth on this stuff but 90% of viewers wouldn't watch it, thus wasted effort and not enough return for me.
@Baleur2 жыл бұрын
@@ArghanionsPuzzlebox But if people dont watch half the tutorial, they're not interested in learning Unreal Engine to begin with.. Its a very small niche market to begin with. Then again, just check the UE5 beginner tutorials numbering in 4 hours and their view count. As for not enough return for you, well perhaps you're looking at the whole thing wrong then. If the 10% who watched the whole video "convert" to buy your assets, thats better than having 2% convert from these shorter videos.
@ArghanionsPuzzlebox2 жыл бұрын
The stats don't lie. Retention rate for tutorial content is quite low across the board for a lot of creators, some get more views than others but that doesn't mean the content was watched. Also long tutorials take a long time, quite difficult if it's not a full time job.
