Swedish Blinds are a classic and easy to make window covering. They're a fabric roller shade. I've been planning to make these for years, and I finally did it! I felt intimidated but it was surprisingly easy! Follow along to find out how to make them for yourself!
A note about the twill tape: Please make sure you keep the twill tape WELL AWAY from children's reaching hands, wrapped around a blind cleat, and out of their reach.

Supplies Needed
Two contrasting or complementing lightweight fabrics. The ones I used are no longer available, but checks with flowers or stripes with flowers are good contrasting options.
Thread, sewing machine, steam iron. Optional: hot glue gun.
Staple gun and staples. I used these. bit.ly/3xQHhjY bit.ly/49XpKEh
Twill tape. I used this one. bit.ly/3JB10a2
Blind cleats. bit.ly/3Qom9YL
1x1 or 1.5.1.5 wooden battens cut to fit inside your windows. We had these already, but you can find them at Lowe's or Home Depot.
5/"8 wooden dowel rods cut to the length of your windows. You can find these at Lowe's, Home Depot, any craft store.
1" O rings. I used these from Joann Fabrics. bit.ly/3xWEg1F

They look great . Beautiful. But as a trauma nurse i must warn anyone with small children that this can be a choking/hanging hazard. Thats why they don't sell blinds with string pulls anymore.

Good point. I meant to mention that actually. We have Roman shades elsewhere and keep ends of the pulls well away out of reach on a special holder. I’m going to do similar with these when my blind cleats come in from Amazon.

As an experienced seamstress I give you a gold star for this tutorial. I’m not sure how you did your rod pocket but I have Covid so my brain is a bit fuzzy. I have done Velcro across the board when I needed them to be washable. They look beautiful.

I love these blinds❤ I'm about to hang two in my dining room. This is the fourth set I've made & I procrastinate every time. I think it's going to be a big project & then I'm surprised at how quickly it all goes together. Well, I did make a pair for my bedroom from a quilt my grandmother made over 50 years ago. Mending all the damage in the quilt did take a while, but I absolutely love the finished blinds!

Thanks for the inspiration! I’m doing my library with Delft character, so love your color choices! I had planned a different curtain for the room, but beside yours they are pretty bland. I’ve decided to do yours instead! Thanks again!

I was wondering how you wash them? Instead of stapling the small strips that hold the rings, you could sew those directly to the curtain top, and make the top board pocket exactly like the one on the bottom that holds the dowel rod. Add brackets in the window frame. Then the cloth is removable from the wood. Slide the wood out and viola! Washable curtains. Sounds good, but will it work? I don’t know. I’m a great backseat driver too. You did a good job. Thanks for the video. Sorry for the critique. My mind runs away with me sometimes.

Good thinking! I like to be able to wash curtains too. These you’d just spot clean/dust but I like your idea.
