I’m home not feeling great and binge watching your demos! It’s amazing what you come up with! Re matte medium….it does contain fibers which make it less transparent than gloss medium. Maybe not that crucial for collage art, but for painters it’s not good to use for layers because the work will just get cloudier with each layer. On the other hand, gloss medium really enhances the colors and makes them pop, so that can be used all along to keep it vibrant. At the end if a less glossy finish is desired, a final coat of matte or satin can be applied. Also, per Golden, gloss medium is recommended for sealing wood panels before applying gesso…to preclude support induced discoloration.
@catrains.artist Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for thoughtful reply, and am aware that gloss medium is clearer. Just not my preference. Interestingly someone shared this video from Golden todayfb.watch/lJyHJw1plT/ that clearly shows what you shared, although when dry matte and gloss are very hard to tell apart. Very one needs to experiment and decide what works best for them, and after years of using both products as glue, I usually choose matte. AND, I totally understand why many will choose gloss instead.

I use my Gelli plate to apply the matt medium on my paper and it works well.. Also, because l am a starter with collage , I use pébéo studio gel matt as an alternative to liquitex matt medium which is a lot cheaper product. Great product too! And you don' t feel too bad if you make errors.

Thanks for this! I have a suggestion to try to eliminate the glossy side (when I try this it’s what I’m going to do). When working with resin, if your silicone mold is matte, the cast will be matte. If the mold is glossy, the cast will be glossy. I’m wondering if it is the same here. I have silicone mats I’m going to try this on. I’m pretty sure I have glossy and matte ones. I’ll let you know what I conclude!

Love your fabulous ideas. One question that you may have already addressed and I may have missed, what is the ratio of medium vs water. I’m guessing 1:1 but want to make sure. Thank you! 🧡🙏

@@catrains.artist Thank you for your feedback. Much appreciated. I just watched one of your other videos that you recommend a 3/4 glue ratio to 1/4 water. I will use tat. By the way, your videos make me happy and excited about putting your ideas into practice. Really cool 😎

I just saw a person use her brush wiped paper towels as a background for her paintings! She saved all her paper towels that she wiped her brushes on, glued them down to her substrate then when they're dry she painted watercolour on them! Great idea but NOT archival.
@catrains.artist Жыл бұрын
Very creative technique, and you are right that it wouldn't be archival unless she had very expensive paper towels!
@Hedgehogsinthemist1238 күн бұрын
Mod Podge is terrible stuff. It yellows really quickly, is very tacky and smells horrible. It's cheap and cheap for a reason. I started out using it because the KZbin artist I was influenced by used it and I just assumed it was good. I love Liquitex. It's archival and so kind and nice to use and gives beautiful results. Essential if you sell your work. Great demo. Thanks. Tracey

Instead of watering down your matte medium couldn't you just use fluid matte medium, which I think is just watered down matte medium?

I don't think I watered down my matte medium. I do water down the white glue with this technique, but the medium is already thin enough. Or maybe I haven't watched my video in a while and I'm mistaken!
