Great video. You might save your step of "retuning" by having Snap to Scale engaged as you drag the harmony to the desired interval.

not sure if this is an actual good tip since am a beginner but for my recent harmonies i tried singing them correctly (didnt work out that well), then i pitched my harmonies back to the leads keys to then pitch them all togehther into the perfect harmonie hight - best sounding results for me, as a horrible singer, so far

Question. I find that flex pitch often clips and chops up my vocals kind of like yours did on the word "waste" in your 2nd sentence. Is this a bug in logic? Because it happens all the time! How do I prevent this?

eventide octavox is really good for this and harmonize

You can, of course, choose options-snap to scale instead of leaving it on default chromatic and your scale snap will be automatic, that is you will see the notes changing with the correlation of the key no theory needed, still some tweaking to taste just use what sounds good to you, but if you don’t have a good ear than your not going to far in the music biz, lol. also you can select all - copy and paste to the same workspace and harmonize the copied track that way you have A visual reference it’s a good way to learn intervals when your theory is weak but I personally feel everybody should learn some theory it’s really not that difficult, the old studio version of melodyne before 4 or single track or even dna, there was a workspace with individual lanes to house each harmony actually it might still exist in the standalone version I guess I know what I’m doing tonight

@MusicTechHelpGuy3 жыл бұрын
Yes, although flex pitch’s algorithm doesn’t work nearly as well as melodyne.
@billybane45224 жыл бұрын
Hi man very helpful video, one question what did you mean when you said that you already tuned up the track in 2:15? You used melodyne to tune the lead track first before you did this changes?
@MusicTechHelpGuy4 жыл бұрын
Yes. Typically I'll tune the lead vocal, then duplicate the track, and use the lead vocal tuned in melodyne to create the harmony.
@musicproductionvideos50196 жыл бұрын
Great videos. So when trying to find/workout harmonies, would you first look at the underlying chord, then the first note of the lead melody? I was recently trying to find one, but the lead was actually starting on the 5th of the underlying chord. So when I thought to go to a "3rd" or "5th" up to harmonize... they were actually the 7th and 9th of the starting chord and jazzy for what I wanted. I found you can't just say I'm going to harmonize a 3rd & 5th.

You can do harmony by using flex pitch as well
@johnnymcgeemusic Жыл бұрын
Cool concept! It would definitely sound more natural if you had two different takes of the same vocal and used one for the lead and one for the harmony edit. Otherwise it’s just a little too in sync for my ears, a little uncanny valley. I’m not great at singing harmonies, but I’m a whiz at music theory so I would definitely enjoy this. Looks way more useful than Flex Pitch on Logic, thanks for the nice in depth lesson! Looks like I have something to add to my studio wish list

Nice work! Just a quick note about Melodyne first in the chain. I have had singers (myself included) who have hard sibilance in the track. Being that Melodyne doesn't work will with sibliance, I have put a D-esser before Meoldyne and it works great!!

Great demo. I appreciate the interesting vocals, seeing the graphics. I'm restarting music composition, and am 'dying' to arrange [my] vocals for the first time. I quite understand how a major third has to change to a minor third interval in harmony - from my investigation of how to write a Bach Fugue. There's also a few KZbins on different modes - which can change these intervals somewhat. Anyway, as MusicTechHelpGuy, you're not just a Melodyne promoter, are you? There's so much stuff on KZbin, and I have to work out what I need for a complete music set-up. I wish to mix 'real' acoustic sounds with synthetic sounds, and that includes vocals. I don't know Ovox well. I don't want to double up. If I want a great vocoder as well as what Melodyne has, do I buy both, or something else? I'll be starting with Kontakt Komplete 13 Ultimate - on my Cubase 10.5 - in a few days. I need the full range from real strings - to complex harmonies - [I suppose - a bit more than Bohemian Rhapsody meets Big Band Jazz Swing] What do you suggest for vocals. Melodyne+Ovox?

So well done and informative. Thx very much! Can't wait to try harmonies with Melodyne. (Not exactly the right forum for this question - but unfortunately made an unwise decision by upgrading to High Sierra with Logic 10.3.3. I'm using an M-Audio Fast Track Pro & it's no longer recognized by the OS. Midi seems to work ok but not audio. You're very knowledgeable & likely well-aware of this situation. Tried to research but found no solutions at present. Wondering if you might have any suggestions to attempt to rectify. Thanks so much.)
@NovianLeVanMusic7 жыл бұрын
I did a little research and found that the 10.13.2 update broke the drivers (which ironically was supposed to improve compatibility with 3rd party USB audio devices), and unfortunately a new driver set won’t be released by Avid (support ended in 2014). The only solution right now is to downgrade to 10.13.1 or Sierra, or potentially wait for a fix.
@west4coast777 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. You're right - the update was supposed to improve compatibility. Argghh... It's like getting a new car but the key won't open the trunk.
@NovianLeVanMusic7 жыл бұрын
You're welcome. I understand! I upgraded to High Sierra and started experiencing problems. Apple removed the Sierra installer from their public servers because they were so confident High Sierra was superior in every way, so I couldn't downgrade. I decided to wipe my drive and performed a clean install of HS hoping everything was fixed. Of course this was not the case. Then, they just recently brought the Sierra installer back, so I had to do *another* clean install. Most frustrating Apple experience yet. I will never upgrade to a new macOS at launch ever again.

Do you really have nothing better to do with your time than to troll me? I bought Melodyne Studio years ago, I own a professional production company, and I've used Melodyne on hundreds of projects. I'm on a first name basis with the guys at Celemony, they comment on and share my videos on a regular basis. Why would I pirate Melodyne? If I wanted it for free, it would only take an email to Celemony to get a free copy. I bought it because I use it for work, and it's paid itself off 100x over.
@lost_valley6 жыл бұрын
Melodyne doesnt sound a whole lot better than Logic flex pitch considering how expensive it is the full version of Melodyne.
@youaintasbadasyouthink6 жыл бұрын
logics flex pitch and flex time has so many damn artifacts. You wont notice it until you start taking music to a professional level. Ive never touched it since for vocals because it absolutely can ruin a song.
@lost_valley6 жыл бұрын
I've noticed that you need dry audio (as little reverb as possible) to make flex time work without artifacts which is not a problem for me as I'm not a remixer.
@benbenzon6 жыл бұрын
David C. Logic's Flex time is quite usable for non vocal instruments (guitar , drum). Flex pitch on the other hand is not usable at all. Creates too many artifacts. Melodyne is WAAAAAAAY better especially on vocal. In fact I used flex pitch before on vocal , found out I can't eliminate the artifacts from flex pitch after I finished edit the whole vocal track. I need to use the Melodyne to redo the whole track again.
