Mixed TPP/FPP is fine in singleplayer games, but take a multiplayer game like PUBG, then TPP and FPP is 2 completely different games. If mixed, then it would just play as the TPP version.
@CreateConsumeRepeat5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I’m not an avid PUBG player but admit that TPP grants a huge advantage when scouting but some people swear by FPP when in a gun fight. It all boils down to personal preference.

@@CreateConsumeRepeatI might be pretty late here, but people still claim that click to move is vastly superior to wasd movement with mouse aim for top down games like DotA. Having preference is fine, but people don't like change and will steadfastly hold onto outdated mechanics thinking they're superior.

Never too late to join the conversation. Seeing that this video was about third person perspective versus first person perspective; DOTA or any top down view game was not considered.

I haven't searched all of your videos yet, but would love to know if you have more insight on this subject....possibly an opportunity to DM some of what you know with me? Thanks again!! Other games to take into account were Hidden and Dangerous 1 (1999) and 2 (2003), the first one didn't play as well but the second one feels great in both cameras, both games let the player control what camera they are using at any time and are completely playable with just one of the perspectives just fine. Also Hitman 2:SA (2002), the third-person camera felt absolutely needed as the disguises were so important to the game, so seeing the player character was crucial. Still, being able to go first person had its advantages in tight spaces among all the interiors, plus feeling more immersive when trying to get by security so close to their faces. Operation Flashpoint (2001) was another example of a tactical shooter opting to let the player switch cameras on the fly to give them as much spatial awareness as possible while also keeping the player right inside the action. Same in a different context with the Rainbow Six Vegas (2006 and 2008) series where its played first person but it switches to third person when in cover, one can assume that it was a simple way of keeping the player hidden in cover while providing vision to what is behind the cover, funnily enough, Vegas 2 has a mode where the camera stays so close to the player for the purpose of not letting the player peek around cover like it was originally intended to keep things a bit more realistic, if you wanna look you had to expose yourself. Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (2006) let the player switch camera but it felt more like a late addition to the game just to keep in line with how the older games were played, it's obvious that its a third-person game first. And a final sidenote, while not being a game that merges the two views for the player to choose, Splinter Cell Chaos Pandora Tomorrow (2004) (plus Chaos Theory, Double Agent and Blacklist) had a multiplayer gamemode where spies played in the traditional third person with lots of mobility while mercenaries played in first person like a traditional fps. Another curiosity was how modders usually liked to mess around with this stuff, if the game was only an fps they would try to make it a tps and vice-versa, GTA usually had these kinds of mods, and GTA IV is where it showed that it could work very well with how detailed the world of that game was, a lot of that detail became much more evident when seeing right up close in first person. With GTA V Rockstar finally let the players play in first person when they re-released the game for next gen consoles, in Red Dead Redemption 2 it came with it by default.

What about the Metroid Prime Trilogy? Though the third person perspective is rather slim compared to the first person, the second game on the series exploits the perspective in very fun ways, even having boss fights in third person with the morph ball.

Just go the Starfield route. POV is switchable, problem solved. I cannot play FPS games anymore that much, especially with melee combat. Usability is just laughable/aggravating. And character customization does not make any sense with FPS to me personally. But character physics vs environmental physics design is maybe of an issue here. Games seem to increasingly excel at the latter, but not at the former. Therefore, FPS makes a lot of sense; just draw a gun and two hands, and you're good to go (kidding).

Or you could just play GTA or ace combat, where you can choose
