I think so many young artists would have an incredible boost in confidence if they saw Stan's "Box-01" drawings. So many artists give up when they compare themselves to others who have already gotten 10+ years of PROFESSIONAL work behind their belt, and they don't realize they're doing perfectly fine on their artistic journeys

Proko is great if you already know about what he's talking (he makes good recaps). One guy that really thought me for free with hours and hours of live drawing is Prof Marc Leone and his free Drawing Database youtube channel from the University of Kentucky. Perspective, anatomy, art history, you name it, he has hour long tutorials. I recommend going through them with pencil in hand, go through those solid, solid build up of knowledge and them come to Proko for a quick reminder.

He didn't "teach me how to draw" I have another approach to learning, but based on that word "approach" I thank Proko for showing me different paths and approaches, he created more than a channel, he created a community of artists, teachers, enthusiasts and many other categories of people who work in visual art, this guy is very good and deserves congratulations.

Great video! I've been learning art online for around 15 years. I still remember when Proko was brand new! Seeing the original Proko website pop up on screen brought back memories haha. Artists nowadays are absolutely blessed to have someone like Stan putting out such amazing work. The content that existed before him, while wonderful, simply does not compare in complexity and production quality. His channel and website have become essential tools for learning how to draw online. I remember when I was in middle school, I used to dream of the day that I could finally afford to purchase some of his lessons. He absolutely deserves all the success that has come his way.

I learned to draw anatomy with those early Proko videos years ago. I instantly recognized the high quality on production and content and learning curve, there was nothing like Proko at that time on any video platform (at last not for free). Those times where awesome :) Today, when someone see my drawings and say he wants to learn, the first think i say is "if you are serious, then start by watching Proko early videos on you tube"

Great video, Slew! After watching Proko for some years now, it was only very recently that I caught a 5year old video of his 'beginnings' (trained at Jeff Watts studio, to one-man operation via his parents' house, to big-time professional studio with a team) to world-wide acclaim now. Yours is a wonderful interview and tour of current Proko that captures all this. Stan's is a story of vision and perseverance. Certainly he had a great mentor and teacher in Jeff Watts who saw Stan's potential. And it's all history from there. Very inspiring! And BTW, 'hats off' to you for your new art school venture. I'm sure, just like Stan P, your passion for art and art instruction will lead to ever greater success. I certainly hope so. Once again, thanks for this inspiring video on 'Proko'.

Ever since I was a kid I've wanted to get good at drawing. I've never been able to. For the longest time I thought it was that I just didn't have the energy or ability to focus for long enough, and maybe there is some of that. But lately I've started to think there is more too it. I've realized that I can't visualize things in my mind like most people can (I don't remember the name for it). Like I know there is a way to draw humans that uses like rough shapes like oval and guiding lines going across, but I can't see that in my head and I can't put it down on paper. Not without a reference. The only thing I'm able to draw are super basic shapes like squares and triangles. Everything beyond that I need references for and I can only try to copy it directly. If I try to make it my own, I suddenly don't know where any lines go. What do you think of this idea? That some people struggle a lot and need other ways to learn because they can't visualize the thing they are trying to draw. Now I'm into photography instead because there I can visualize by actually looking. But even then, I'm not good at visualizing different focal lengths and apertures for my subjects, so I constantly loom through my camera.

The term you probably had in mind is "aphantasia". It's not necessarily the blocker - the Drawabox guy says he has that too and everyone is learning constructive drawing from him 😂 I've also encountered people with dysgraphia, which is a "I can't write with good hand-eye coordination" problem. In both cases usually the answer is to work within a strict technical method that makes it less necessary to visualize, like using rulers or marking in grid squares. The blocker in most cases is just not being pointed towards the technical methods that work for you - there are a lot of them. Having relatively good visualization myself, I tend to have another problem, which is rushing through a drawing to try to get to what I see and letting it get very scribbly. It predisposes me to focus on cartooning, since that can go at the speed I want to go at. And even then I still benefit from using copious references.
