Hello, I hope this tutorial wasn't too confusing. Here's the cord and glue that I used for this project.

Spent two hours last night with a how-to book -- looking at the hand drawn pictures -- combined with instructions. Could not get it. Period. This tutorial really helped. Thank you.

I love this tutorial! And the tip about wrapping around a couple signatures down on the ends really makes a difference! It makes the ends look like the rest of the coptic. Thanks!

I have never ever bothered to leave a comment or review on ANYTHING online - until watching this tutorial. Guarantee that once seeing this tutorial, not one single person would google "coptic stich tutorial". Thanks for clarifying confusion for the 69thousand of us who have viewed so far! BTW Is that some kind of record - not a single dislike? Someone - give this girl an award or something so she keeps creating decent content.

Nice tutorial! Stupid question... Will a coptic stitch work on a stack of flat sheets or do you have to use signatures of folded paper? 🤔

Would it affect the book if you glue say a piece of leather on the covers and spine?
@xeon2773
@xeon2773 3 жыл бұрын
probably not, if you just do the book with the cardboard pieces and then glue the leather ontop it might work. not sure tho, never have used leather before (yes i replied 3 months later lmao)

Try searching for "long stitch bookbinding method". Basically you'll be stitching each signature directly to the leather cover. You can add a picture of paper or cardboard for rigity (for making a hard cover basically). Also try "french link stitch". If you sacrifice the first and the last page as flyleaves (endpapers), you can do you book the following way: stitch you pages using french link stitch; glue a piece of thin paper to the spine, wrapping around the signature block and glueing it to the first and last pages too, let dry (the piece of paper could be any size smaller as long as it covers most of the stitching); prepare your hard cover - using three pieces of cardboard for two faces of the book and its spine, glue all the cardboards to a single piece of leather/wrapping paper; glue this prepared hardcover to your signature block - first spine, then first and last pages. You should have your hard cover book done! Search for "hard cover bookbinding" for details. Tip: when drying a glued book, use spare sheets of paper to shove in between glued parts/pages to avoid page waving - spare paper will absorb moisture from the glue Sorry for the late response, hope this was of any help!!

Great tutorial, up until the last part. A little confused on the knots used to tie the cover off, as the video moves fast without much explanation. Otherwise, a great tutorial.

Even better idea - make a tutorial that teaches everyone how to make a decent youtube tutorial. And make KZbin employ you!

Nice explanation except at minute 4.54 when you put the cover with the last signature. You don't show the step after passing the needle through the cover.... then I don't know how you go then to the signature... that's a shame...
