I wanted to create a Garmin G1000 by 3d printing the frame and using a 10.4" LCD screen for the display. I will use these G1000 units in my new C172 cockpit in an upcoming video.
A massive Thank You to Sebi Woelke for the Intro and Logo!

As an American, I must say I absolutely appreciate the metric system. It has introduced a greater precision in every project I make. So, England BAD for the inherited imperial system, but thanks for the English language and being a predecessor and mentor of the metric system. Base 10, baby !

So here's my favorite part. This fellow... an absolute multi-discipline polymath is hand-crafting an incredibly complex one-of-a-kind device. We're nearly 30 mins deep. There's been 3d modeling, prep, printing, curing, painting, filing, SOURCING, assembly, wiring, QC checks, coding, synching with the simulator.... And what's the reaction? "...switch it over into the active... HOW SIMPLE IS THAT?! That's one encoder and two buttons working... SO SIMPLE! Now it's just [repeating those steps a couple dozen times]...!" HAHAH. Dude. Love it. I loved flying the G1000 during flight school. Having one on the desk would be fantastic. This is inspirational levels of ingenuity, and I'm all in for flexing all of those skill sets. But "HOW SIMPLE IS THAT?" 🤣🤣🤣

I am absolutely gobsmacked at the skills you demonstrate in these build videos. I'm crap with my hands and have never even hammered a nail into a wall to hang a picture so I am totally engrossed by videos such as this one, you make it all look soooooo easy. I would love to give this a go myself if I had the skills, tools, equipment and money to do so - it all looks great fun and I find your videos very inspiring. And having been a software engineer in the avionics world for 20 years I'd love to give programming with Mobiflgiht a go, that part really appeals to me!!!

Thanks Karl for your work, is really well made and entertaining! About the map "joystick", I will be using this component: Alps rkjxt1f42001 , it is really inexpensive! I have already used it in a g1000 that I build during the pandemic for xplane (using simvim and Arduino+multiplexer), with the frame build using a tiny CNC, But your designs is far better than my homemade so gonna build it again!

Brilliant work, and great to see the 'rat's nest' of wiring turn into neat wiring looms. Unfortunately I think any non-electronic simmers would be overwhelmed by the complexity of the wiring but can't think how PCBs could be used as people would likely source different switches and rotary encoders 😢. I'd definitely build 2 of these if I build a Simpit rather than go VR when a decent headset is available!

Also, print the buttons in black and change the filament to white at the writingS height. buy AWG 24 silicone wires, not plastic. I have a Y. T. video of my finished product. The switch panel I designed myself because I used different switches that light up

Its perfect for a smooth perfect finish on sim parts, but the mess is aweful, and my skin doesnt like the resin.

Hi, you are the best and most happy person on his hobby. I can feel you happiness and satisfaction from you. I have a question for you, how many computer you use to power up the whole cockpit you made for the 737 and plus for 3 monitors? I am very interested to duplicate your setup. Thanks

Its a good little project, but i think i would like to create one that steps away from the actual dimensions and change it to suit 3d printing specifically so it turns out stunning.

Hi again! You may remember me posting in the 737 MCP comments. I was going to try to make one, but realized all I really want/need is the rotary knob portions (course, alt, heading, speed), because those are the biggest pain in the A$$ to use in the sim with a mouse. I guess it should work for the Garmin too. If you are willing to do one before I get off my behind and do it, I'm sure other viewers would appreciate it.

Hello Mike and Thank you. I try to use 24 AWG. It keeps the looms smaller and can manage the 5v Arduino power needs without issue.
