Crossroads America

Ай бұрын

Since 1950, over 1 million people have moved out of Detroit, making it one of the most abandoned cities in the United States. Today, we're setting out to discover the truth about Detroit, from its decline to its rebirth in the 2020's. We only had one day to explore the city, but we were lucky to come across incredible people and stories that make Detroit what it is today. Enjoy :)

My parents both grew up in Detroit. I've been close to it all my life and, with the good and the bad, I love it and care about it. Good job getting close to it! There is so much more, too! Eastern Market, the theater district, Campus Martius, Greek Town, an amazing restaurant scene, urban farmers, just amazing! I loved watching. Warmed the heart.

@@ian2372 I did live there at one time and I worked in Detroit for 40 years. Like any large city, it went thru bad times. But it is reinventing itself and deserves recognition of the turnaround.

It's a city with great bones and shows you what not to do... Which is erode urbanism for car-centric white flight, even in Mecca for automaking on earth... At least until recently... What it should do? Encourage urban pioneers to settle the city once again by selling cleaned up lots for $1 contingent that a house is built or placed on it within 1 year. Places in rural Alberta that are suffering population decline and flight to places like Edmonton and Calgary which added 63,000 and 86,000 people respectively last year ALONE offer these deals and it seems to have worked to at least staunch the bleeding... To me as a fan of classic architecture and urbanism Detroit is probably the closest you can get to living in a retro museum without actual time travel especially with the renewal of several key iconic buildings like Michigan Central station which reopened last Thursday. It just needs you know, ACTUAL train service at it via a streetcar extension and Amtrak to reoccupy its platforms rather than its crap station North of downtown which I've told borders between is embarrassing and disgusting...

Shall we ask WHY so many have moved away? Manufacturing may of been the old excuse but it is no longer relevant today. There is another reason alot of folks packed up and left.

Not to go there but I got to really think about whenever black Americans say they “made” a place like Detroit….ive travelled all over this nation…. Can’t say I’ve ever been anywhere in USA where I say to myself “ wow this was made by…… fill in the blank group of people”…….would anyone want Detroit 2024 or Detroit circa 1920…. Be honest….the world’s leading city of manufacturing vs….,…. 2/3 of the city abandoned?

Most big cities have had influences from groups of people from all over the world. Detroit was founded by the French nearly 300 years ago, and American industrialists created the manufacturing industry that allowed the city to become big, and also mismanaged the city and allowed it to crumble. Not the mention the influences from all the people who live in a city, from all different backgrounds, because what’s a city without its people. That’s just my opinion tho

Not a well done video. They didn’t even mention how the People Mover and the Qline is free to ride on. Only city in the USA. Also Detroit is NOT the most abandoned city in the USA. Totally false. Lastly, they never went to Mexican Town, Greek Town to interview those groups especially Mexican town that was the fastest growing in Detroit. They didn’t interview the Arabs too not to mention the Japanese and Chinese investors in certain neighborhoods of Detroit. Disappointing video
