Love this. Thank you for taking us start to finish and for showing us how you make adjustments and even remove parts that dont work out. That knowledge helps a lot. :Looking for the next part? Is there a Part 7 and 8? I’m glued to my chair!!

I really like the butterflies. They give enough space for the piece to breathe. It is a busy piece but it is going to be beautiful. TFS

@@TreasuryRoad It helps reassure us that changing course is NOT because we messed up, but that we are listening to the piece and allowing it to evolve. It's good to see others going through that and knowing it's a part of the process.

Thank you Peter for the update. I find your redo interesting. A little to bright for me but I'm happy we all don't think alike. I see the sky first and not the beauty of the butterflies and roses. I love watching you work and can't wait until the next video on the gazing ball.

Thankyou so much Judith, to be honest I am not convinced about this blue sky either, Im letting it go for the time being because it doesn't interfere with anything just yet. Appreciate you watching and commenting. :)

Thanks for sharing your progress. I am currently doing a 3 ft gazing ball too! so many times I wanted to ask you a question. My design is all flowers with lots of color, filling in between with leaves and sky. Oh and plenty of bugs! Maybe some species that only exist in my head! 😊 cheers to a butterfly party, Jeannine

LOL Your gazing ball sounds so beautiful, you should post a couple of photos in the Facebook Mosaic groups such as Mosaics Australia Wide, if I see the post I will comment, Im in that one and its an awesome group. I know what you mean there's a lot in my hand that's not in reality and probably just as well. lol Yes the Butterflies do love their parties. lol Thanks for watching and commenting. :)

Thanks for sharing, I have a couple of questions, why did you not use thinset for the butterflies as well,also do you grind all the sharp bits off the glass? I find that really laborious, also my go to adhesive is silicone glue, what's your thoughts on silicone for outside ? Thanks again😊@@TreasuryRoad
@TreasuryRoad10 ай бұрын
Sorry l just saw your comment. You can use thinset to adhere the butterflies but l find some things are easier with Apoxie Sculpt depending on the size. l don’t grind my glass on a large project like this because it would double or triple the time frame, if it was being climbed over l may have to reevaluate that thought. The glass should be cut small so it doesn’t stick up and the epoxy grout will be level with the top hiding the edges. Any edges that for one reason or another that does stick up it l will give them a little grind with a dremel before grouting. l avoid using silicone because they contain solvents which are constantly given off whilst curing and you are breathing those in. There are other silicone type products that don’t contain solvents but they work similar to them. Such as SMX polymers or similar abbreviations. Thinset is really proven and most professionals use this in their pieces however like any job there are exceptions. Thanks for watching and for your comment. 😊

Thankyou very much appreciate that. I like to have my tess very close together so as the grout does not impact the piece I am creating but that's just a personal choice. I have seen some wonderful pieces that have wider grout lines. Thankyou so much for watching and for commenting. :)

I may have missed this on previous videos, but can I ask why you use the epoxy clay/sculpt rather than the thinset when placing the butterflies on?
@TreasuryRoad Жыл бұрын
I could have used thinset except on the butterfly that's mirrored, the alkaline in the thinset would have effected the reflective backing. So I thought I might as well use the Apoxie Sculpt for all of them. Another reason is that I can continue mosaicing without having to worry if I knock the butterflies while working around them. :) Thanks for the comment and for watching the video. :)

I agree. The first wispy glass was too busy and distracting. Second blue looked much better. I like how you showed us your change of plan, rather than editing it out. Was it hard to take off the first glass? Also, I’m wondering why you used epoxy sculp to glue the butterflies on, but thinset for the sky. Could you have used thinset for the butterflies too? It’s looking great. Can’t wait to see the finished ball. Would it be strong enough for a kid to sit on it?

Thankyou so much Wendy. I am still not convinced about the sky but Im running with it for the time being. To take the glass off I used a blunt chisel with a few hard whacks, this did require some force and the adhesive/glass took the surface of the PalTiya off in most areas. I think this ball would probably take my weight but I haven't tried it....YET Thanks for watching and commenting. :)

Thank you so much Kath a good question and welcome to the mosaic world. I have made a video that compares them both, my preference for most of the time is Apoxie Sculpt in the natural colour. @TreasuryRoad Жыл бұрын
Thankyou and my pleasure. I didn't grind the edges because the epoxy grout will be covering the edges and the glass edges are not sticking up. If it was a piece where it was going to be handled I would consider grinding the edges just to make sure. I am not a silicone fan because they have solvents that you are constantly breathing in while its curing. If I need a silicone type product then I use something like Soudal Fix All Crystal clear which is a SMX polymer that works similar to silicone however it doesn't contain the solvents. I know thinset has great longevity but Im not convinced silicone has. These are just my thoughts. Thanks for watching and commenting. :)
@andreambird4407 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I’m going to check the spec sheet in the silicone I use as I was not aware of the solvent issue. I need to get better at using thinset! Which epoxy grout do you use ? I’m in Portugal so it’s not as easy to get supplies !
