Creating a NEW Pokémon Region Based on Canada! New Pokémon, Gym Leaders, and More!

Many of you have been asking for a "Pokedex" video for Pokemon Cardinal, where all the Pokemon are in one place. Well, here it is! I thought I would also include some info on the region and characters as well, and make this video as a way to introduce people to Norcloh that haven't seen the project before. Hope you enjoy! Plus this might surprise you, but there are some cities in the Pokémon movies that are based on places in Canada. For example, in the opening cutscene from the movie about Diancie, you can see Ash battle near a building resembling the Frontenac Castle from Quebec on a plaza made out of wood planks.

So, norcloh means literally means “welcome to north snow”. As Canada comes from the first thing the natives said, which means welcome or something similar, the word is something like “Kin ada”(I don’t know if I spelt it right)

Actually, Canada came from the word "Kanada," which came from an Iroquois nation and meant "small town". If I remember well, the nation disappeared after Cartier's trip to Qc. "Kanata" came from another native language, but it has the same meaning than "Kanada." To make it simple, it is kind of the Spanish and French versions of the same word.

@@dew-it8744 Yeah, I know about Spain, but I used it as an example since French and Spanish are languages that belong to the same group: the Romance family and therefore they share more similarities than just comparing English (a germanic language) and French... Although modern English is much more of a creole of old English (Hello Beowulf) and French, and therefore share numerous similarities. However, they are still part of two different linguistic groups. Language evolved, but some remain closer than others

As a Canadian, I really like the attention to detail. I'd also like to point out that Snowbo and its evolution (I couldn't quite figure out how to spell it) kind of look like they should be mascots from the Winter Olympic games in 2010 which took place in Vancouver, which actually made me really happy. Pokémon Cardinal was so amazing, as a Canadian myself, I think you made this region so well that it’s spot on! The Pokémon in the region fit right at home with Canada. The only little nitpick I have thought would be that the Canadian desert wasn’t added, which is understandable it's not a well-known thing and not the first thing to come in mind when you think of Canada. It’s more like desert you see in Breaking Bad more than the one that’s just sand dunes, it’s pretty small too. But I love this series so much that the one thing doesn't bother me much. Thanks for making this amazing series. Also, love that Tundra Budew is shaped as a snowflake. Edit: The nature preserve might count as the desert but i'm not 100% sure.

This was really cool. Being from the Canada of Canada (Saskatchewan) I was a bit perturbed to see mountains on the prairies...but then the Pokedex blew my mind. Wow, impressive! Really enjoyed this video. I would've liked to see some attention to North America's first people and their influence on the Pokemon of the Norcloh region. For example, the First Nation's people had their own unique breeds of dog; completely separate from the new world lineages.

As someone who lives in western Canada, this was so immensely entertaining and I have thought of a Canada based Pokemon region myself. This is much better than what I had thought of!! I thought a beaver being Grass and Steel, a dinosaur being Fire and Ground and sabre toothe tiger being Water and Ice would be my starter ideas. I was smiling throughout this whole video. That's pretty clever, how you came up with the play character's names. I was thinking that Reed came from the plants in the marsh, since Canada is a very wooded country, and Wendy was derived from "windy" because Canada is famous for snowstorms and cold weather.

I think you may have missed out by not having a raven Pokémon. In most aboriginal cultures in Canada, there is a story about a raven creating a human, and tricking a old man into letting him see the moon, sun, and stars, then the raven steals them and puts them in the sky.

@Isabella Murray I was hoping more for route design, having our landscape shaped by glaciers/being famously flat and grain elevator-y with picturesque skyscapes. BUT if I'm being honest, most of the times I've been through Calgary it's just to get to Banff and the general feel I get from it is just "big ol city," and my only memory of Edmonton is "lol big mall." and when talking about Edmonton to other people, I've heard similar sentiments about it or even that they forgot it existed. In my uncultured small city Saskatchewan view, Winnipeg and Saskatoon feel comparable except Winnipeg has a reputation for being horrible... but not as horrible as Regina. I do not live in Regina, simply nearby, and all it has for uniqueness is the Saskatchewan science center (centers which exist elsewhere) and football. If we were to have a Saskatchwan inspired Pokemon city, we'd have to lean into the football angle, as Roughrider pride is insane. BUT LASTLY, WE COULD HAVE JUST A TOKEN POKEMON INSTEAD, a bunnyhug pokemon. But Raboot is already a thing. Raboot but cozier. (Note: I'm not out to knock other prairie cities, I just think Sask and PEI got shafted and am bitter. Teach me about how Edmonton and Calgary both deserve praise enough to be seperate cities, I love to learn)

Team Tundra's goals seem very similar to Neo Plazma, with the whole using kyruem to freeze the unova region. Sense Canada and The States are so close to eachother, it would be cool if there was some sort of cross over. Where Team Tundra is a offshot of some sort of plasma that created the technology that harnessed kyruem's powers.

I get Baron's aviator theme is because he uses flying-types, but he really reminds me of bush pilots and I love the idea that one of the region's toughest trainers is a bush pilot. And if you want an example of England-Canada ties, look up the Queen's Plate. I'd call it their Kentucky Derby (only for Canadian-born three-year-olds), except it's actually older than the Derby and the Royal Family are patrons of it. Members of the Royal Family have often shown up to present the trophy, including the Queen herself. Imagine Norcloh having a VERY longstanding competition/event that includes visits from VERY important people from Galar.

That is definitely true. I’m Métis from Alberta. Quite a few things could be added. Okanagan lake in BC has Ogopogo. I can see that being a legendary Pokemon. The werewolf of Quebec and the Sasquatch could be included.

one thing i loved about Cardinal's dex was all the killer ice-types. it's been long overdue! i don't remember if i ever wrote up a team for Norcloh - it'd be Elderoose, Stoatreeze, Fangray, Dramuragon, and Gremferno for sure; but i'm torn between Tundra Meganium or Typhlosion for the sixth slot. Serrapent, Siberanine, Wolvoar, Resemdra, Tundra Flygon, and Tundra Scrafty all being runners-up

I’m creating a (very poorly-drawn) Canada pokemon region comic to share with friends, but I went the way I personally feel gamefreak would do it, taking a single province, specifically Ontario, where I live. I love Norcloh though, and am taking inspiration from Pokémon cardinal as well. Also taking only one province makes it easier to connect to nearby Unova (which is as small as the immediate area surrounding nyc) thank you so much for Pokémon cardinal. It is a great inspiration for my own region and comic, and a better representation of the whole country of Canada.

As a Canadian, I totally agree with this, but I also have a few ideas of my own for DLC, for example, you take a ferry to a place called Vacura island (based off of Vancouver Island), there are three major areas. You can explore on this island. #1: Vector City (based off of Victoria). #2: Nampo City (based off of Nanaimo). #3: Camriv Village (faced off of Campbell river the fishing capital of the world). In Vector City you will face off against many different gym leaders from different regions, including Kanto, Johto, or Sinoh. In Nampo City you will be able to buy a lot of high-end items, including stuff, like Max-revives, and Master balls. In Camriv Village you’ll be able to fish for many aquatic Pokémon and even see ruffle rock (based off of Ripplerock) there are even Pokémon from other regions that live on Vacura island, Pokémon from places like unova, Kanto, and Kalos, and even some legendary Pokémon reside on the island

As a Canadian, I LOVE this video!! You did such an amazing job! Your design are amazing! Would be cool if someone made a fanmade game off your idea. I do have some further ideas for you! It would be cool if we had more designs and architecture based around the First Nations of Canada, because yes English and French are the main population but our history with the First Nations is also vitally important to our culture! Also, object Pokemon, I personally hate object based Pokemon but we can't deny that some Pokemon based off Hockey wouldn't be quintessential Canadian hahaa who wouldn't want a Puck-Mon! I would have also emphasized a lot more on Dinosaur designs as well, Alberta is world famous for it's badlands and dinosaur fossils. That's all that is coming to mind at the moment but I really appreciate what you did with the Canadian Region!! Hopefully someday GameFreak makes a Canada inspired region but this is easily the best option we have so far! Great job!

I’ve actually been thinking about creating a Pokémon region inspired by Canada. Both your Pokémon designs and region are amazing and this video floods me with inspiration!

A few changes/additions I’d make: -Instead of Baron, the Flying-type specialist of the Elite 4 is a trainer named Sam. His team consists of Yanmega (Mega-form appearance), Condobor, Pheronix/Blimwhal, Bamboose, Keeslo/Noivern, and ace Corviknight. His fashion style is also somewhat different, with the fuzzy cap being swapped out for an adventure hat & blue-tinted aviators and the shirt & coat being swapped out for a navy blue t-shirt & thinner, dark gray coat. -South of Ottorowa City, on the region’s southern hook, there is a group of buildings a bit too small to make up a full town. This place is known as Collwood (call-wood) Town. This ‘town’ is based on Collingwood and is the home of the Elite 4’s Sam. -Ducklett is in the region, but has a new Dark/Flying evolution named Bamboose based on Canadian geese. Its name is a combination of the English ‘goose’ and the French ‘bambin’. The latter translates to ‘toddler’ as Canada geese have some similar behaviours to toddlers, including aggressive territoriality, pestilence, noise and dropping feces everywhere.

this is so cool especially from someone not even canadian to put this much effort into realizing our home as a region. I really apreciate all this work u put into it. Most countries dont really acknowledge us for much. We kinda fly under the radar even tho we're the second largest country in the world XD We're usually seen as America part 2 lol.

As someone who lives in Ottawa it made me chuckle a bit that we were merged with Toronto and that that city is a good distance away from the one based on Montreal when geographically we're much closer to Montreal than Toronto. School trips to Montreal were a big 1 day exciting field trip with 3-4 hours of travel total. But if your class or club was lucky enough to go to Toronto for a trip it was at least a 3 day affair just because the distance meant that total travel time tended to be over 12 hours.

As a Canadian, Cardinal Grove is very similar to Cathedral Grove in BC. Although you said Cardinal Grove did not have any geographical inspiration, it unintentionally works so perfectly!
