From the first time I watched you Mikel in 2005 Nigeria U20 world cup to joining Chelsea because of you, to seeing you blossom in Chelsea, to fuming that you didn't play the 2008 UCL final having lost it, to rejoicing you played and won the 2012 UCL final, to the endless joys i felt all of the few times you scored for both club and Country, to the joy I felt for the 2013 Afcon... The 3rd goal just showed how much he clicks with Cole Palmer. He knows he is behind him coming with pace. Short look over the shoulder. Seeing Cole is crossing into the central slightly right side. Drifting just those 2 to 3yrds himself to the left. Cole is crushing into that slightly more open gap and Nico taking a well timed pass for an assist. He could have tried for a hattrick. But he respected Coles having a better chance to score and gave him the assist. Also keep in mind 18 months ago a was a leftwinger at Villareal in Spain. When Villareal lost their starting 11 striker due to injury Nico got played in the 9. And he had like 10-12 games in that new role. Before he went to Chelsea. He doesnt have that "naturel killer instinct" in front of goal. He needs time to develop his convertion rate.He might never turn into a realy clinical striker. But he will by put into that "elite/worldclass braket". Its not just his G/A. He is always making runs to drag defenders/opponents out of position. Creating space for his teammates. Never realy tiered of pressing. Droping back and help with being an outlet during build up.
