That's hilarious - great minds think alike! 30/2 cotton makes such a lovely textile: it's one of my favorites. Please send pics of your shawl!

this is so helpful. the place i am still confused is... so say i am trying to wind 2 colors A and B. and i need to do 1A 3B 1A 3B 1A 3B. cutting and tying A all that time is terrible. But how do i... count... when i do these together? I assume i would have 1A and 1B where you have red threads and 2B where you have blue threads and create the cross, but then i go one length of the warping board, have i made a repeat of 1A 3B or something else?

I'm trying to visualize. Are you just holding four in your hand? One of color A and three of color B? I think the best thing is to try it - you'll see right away where the single color needs to be in relation to your threading order (hint: pay particular attention to the yarn coming off the cones at the upper right and lower left of your setup).

What if you are on,y using two threads can you do this?

You absolutely can! But IMHO it is a case of diminishing returns. With only two treads I just wind in pairs and don't worry about the threading cross because ... what's the worst that can happen? 😉 This methods makes the most sense when you're winding lots of threads at once.
