In my head, the Wisdom Teeth are members of their tribe who have been sent away for whatever reason, four selected every 18 years, sort of like a mix between exile and Rumspringa. Not by age necessarily, just teeth who are capable to fend for themselves, perhaps sending knowledge and resources back to the homeworld, but functionally they are like ronin: a tooth without a mouth.
