Hi Laura, Love your videos. I am an Aquascape contractor in NC. We use all sorts of ground loving plants in our ponds. As you suggested, we remove the soil first and plant directly in the rocks. One of my favorites are impatiens. They add so much color to a water feature. The floaters are nice (water hyacinth and water lettuce), cardinal flower, pitcher plants, venus fly traps (carnivorous would need a little more earth under them and can stay in containers, but soaking in water). I am not an expert on the carnivorous plants but have them in a floating pot in my pond and they are doing fantastic. Thank you for sharing your gardening skills with us.

I have a patio pond on our covered porch and love it! I surround it every summer with my house plants, It's a 55 gal. round container that I added a fountain in along with a few rocks from our creek, I added sand in the bottom and a trio of Marimo moss balls. I also have Hymenocallis-spider lilies, marsh ferns, and creeping jenny planted in semi submerged pots, along with bamboo and some cuttings from several house plants (Brazil philodendron, Syngonium podophyllum, and marble queen pothos). They root really nicely in there as well as help clean the water for the 3 goldfish (common comets) which have done really well year round outside. I'm sure you all will enjoy your new water feature!

This is a wonderful alternative for those of us who either don’t have the space or time to have a pond and don’t want to commit to an expensive fountain. That's really nice! I love that it has a light too. Wish it was powered by solar or USB cable. I have 2 water fountains in my garden, and both are powered with a USB power bank. On a full charge, they run for 16 hours. I have four power banks. 2 are charging while the other 2 are providing me with relaxing sound of water. I switch them out and have water flow all day and night.

Diane M can I ask what kind of fountain as where did you purchase it?
@dianem77714 жыл бұрын
Mia’s Mommee Hi, I purchased the fountains years ago from a local garden shop, but they came with electrical pumps. Unfortunately I don’t have any outdoor electricity. Instead, I purchased 2 fish tank pumps that are charged by USB cable, which can connect to a USB charger and/or USB power bank. The type that you charge and take with you when you travel to power your phone or computer. The USB pumps and power banks were purchased from amazon. Once the power bank is charged, I connect it to the pump, and it runs 14-16 hours depending on the size of your fountain and the amount of water it has to pump through. Hope this helps.

Aside from being a novice gardener, I'm also a novice aquarist with a planted betta sorority aquarium. Good choice on the plants! Java ferns prefer for their base to not be submerged in substrate, so you can tie them down with string. Fluval stratum is a great aquatic substrate because it maintains a fairly low pH. For reference, my tap water is normally very hard and a pH of 8 and added to the aquarium with Fluval Stratum, it goes right down to 6.7. If you want your plants to really thrive and push growth, you can add aquatic plant fertilizer along with a CO2 booster (can find both at Petco) and watch a ton of growth happen quickly! I would love to try this in my yard.
