A quick cheap way to address your potential hinge issue is to replace one hinge (center hinge is best) with a NRP (NON REMOVABLE PIN) security hinge. Typically it uses a Allen screw, only accessible when the hinge is open, that when tightened prevents the removal of the hinge pin. Just a FYI, I understand that security on those doors isn't really an issue, but if you change your mind or for viewers that didn't know. Love the videos, keep up the good work.

lol yeah hinges aren't really a concern when your house is made out of straw with gaps you can see day light around the door. Just reach through and open the door from the inside. ^^

Hi Jessica, Just a note about giving birds water, sometimes they're afraid of drowning so you might want to stick a rock in that watering basin right in the middle, you can add a few bits of gravel all around too. But one good medium sized Rock will help the birds, about fist size. 🌹💗 I love birds too, especially Anna's hummingbird, warblers finches and Phoebe's. My husband likes the Eastern Robbins, and woodpeckers. ❤

Part of me is sad to state this, but I think you've have had an internal compass, from waay back, directing you, as a couple, to where you're at now. You're living what some very well off people WISH they undertook. I'm not well off, but have since 2006 sought to achieve a self-sustaining living system - and didn't. The world IS going through a magnanimous change that WILL challenge everyone. KNOW you're well situated to sustain your good God blessed life; and as Jim says @0:27 "- - but that's okay, we're pushing on through." Keep pushing. w/🙏&❤ - a vicarious Tom

You're hardier than I am working out in the cold, I can't accomplish much more than taking out some trash and sweeping the porches on cold days anymore. I'm glad you can fire up the rocket mass heater to warm your bones. Spring can't get here soon enough for my taste lol. I'm glad your flock is healthy I'd recommend wiping your feet really well outside their coop when you're heading inside to feed them so you don't track any possibly contaminated wild bird poop in. We're seeing a lot of dead seagulls, herons, hawks and sadly at least 2 snowy owls on our states beaches in the last few weeks. Better safe than sorry. ❤

You mentioned getting rain and wanting to protect the straw... on ours we found misting the straw a bit helps hold the coating. Also our house sat naked during two hurricanes (in Florida) and the rain intrusion was only about half a finger deep and dried quickly. Our bales where stacked flat instead of on sides which makes a big difference in the striation of the straw and that helped.

Enjoying watching the progress. I have not fully understood the plan and that’s ok. One of the things I enjoy about this channel (been watching for about a year and a half almost two ) is that it gives me a better perspective on the time and energy it takes for two people (with help at times) to work a project of this size and mass. I suspect some of what drives the speed of this is the funds and or sponsored or donated materials and tools too. Your approach to problem solving and planning next steps feels like it is similar to what my own is in a very different geographic climate and area. Maybe that assessment is a little accurate and maybe it’s just the accumulated empathy of watching for a couple years. :) Regardless, thanks for the examples, the motivation and the persistence to continue the marathon. Kudos as well for the work in the cold which can amplify all challenges including motivation. Can’t wait to see the greenhouse unfold and someday get a cooler and warmer interior when needed push things forward too!

I tried growing mealworms. The large temperature swings out here are a problem. The mealworms will die in the cold winter mornings, and they'll also die in the hot summer afternoons. I recommend keeping them in your earth bag dome where the temperature fluctuates less. They also will appreciate the slightly higher humidity.

Yes everybody shld be growing holmes everywhere you live. In 1. 12' x 14 room you can grow enough food for a small family. Many Veggie, Herbs, Fruits yes and Fungi can be grown indoors. I wld like to see all holmes built or retrofitted to grow for your Families Health and Nutrition. Wecare hoping to get people interested in Growing Indoors in a well ventilated room set up to grow Your Family Foods of any and Every kind. So Please all people whom are watching dont let winter slow you down plants can be grown well with even minimal lights and hopefully a good wood chip compost soil. Many easy fixes for problems. There really are no problems that cant be adrressed indoors. Bugs to a minimum. You can have total control over your Grow area. Be Blessed. Eat your own grown foods from indoors at your home.

Hi. Maybe I missed a video, what's the update on the chickens? I'm glad you mentioned you have plans for the future for your chickens. I don't buy eggs or chicken meat anymore just because of bird flu or even the prices. But I do like how you care for your animals and feeding the wild birds. I'm surprised there's less rodents as I believe seeds attract rodents. I use bales to insulate my apple trees but the crows seem to like it, they dig into it but I'm also thinking that mice like to build their homes inside the bales. Good job on your home building.
