Guys one good idea for Quixel Mixer. Just allow artists to create really great materials and sell them after that on your platform, make a new section. And you can charge for the material used and also give a small fee to the artist that created the combined texture. The whole point here is that we as buyers can get fast really beautiful materials and you can sell more stuff (inside the seller projects) Anyway, Quixel Mixer artists are already selling their final texture on Art Station, but that is baked...

Quixel doesn't have to be owned by Adobe, Quixel Suite is figuratively chained to Adobe Photoshop. You have to subscribe to Adobe to legally use Quixel Suite. I wish Allegorithmic didn't sell to Adobe... It would be nice if Quixel would create their own paint/image editing software and break away from Adobe because in a year or so when Allegorithmic goes full subscription, locked out if you aren't paying Adobe, I'll be looking for something new. Seriously hate subscription based services, I mean, it's great for the companies as it gives them predictable income but for us it doesn't matter if the next version is garbage or not, to continue to use any version with Adobe you have to be subscribed. I suppose at least some subscription services will allow you to use the version up to the point your subscription runs out but those are basically saas in name alone as you can just buy once then cancel until you want the next update.

Man! I'm every moment more and more addicted to this program! I've been using it in almost all of my projects and I'm getting to the point of really cogitate to abandon Substance Designer. The learning curve of Mixer is so easy and the whole program is so more friendly and you feel such of a freedom, is easiest to open Mixer with an idea and plan what you'll need to Do to bring that idea to life than in substance where you need to memorize the main effect of tons of nodes to than start to think in what combinations can probably give you the results you want to finally try out if will function what some times take a lot of tries.

Video presentation critique: For future breakdown videos instead of telling us that the sliders do things using just your words, show us by dragging them and then return the slider to your desired value before continuing. Same with the dropdowns (particularly the noise dropdowns in this case; briefly cycle through a couple of them before returning to the one you desire). It will make your demonstration stronger. I'd also do the narration in post. It can be difficult to come up with a script on the fly which makes the presentation weaker. Love the material, though. (I have a weak spot for crystals.) Also I'd love to see a breakdown of how Wiktor did his Alien Spider Eggs material. www.artstation.com/artwork/1KZoq

@@cfryantofficial It has possibly changed since this was posted. It applied to a version of 2019.4 which hadn't been released when it was made and now it's at 2021.2 so a lot of features may have changed. On top of which the guy doing the tute tended to skip some steps expecting people to find somethings for themself. Also helps if you make sure it is running full screen otherwise the mask buttons don't show up at the bottom.

I am wondering how different is this to designer? Is it a procedural process from scratch or do I have to have a quixel megascans library access to be able to have some base materials
@DarkaniaWorks5 жыл бұрын
I asked myself too. Mixer free comes with only three scans and no fancy brushes. If you want to create more spectacular stuff you have to go to megascans and get some stuff from there. Or you can doo it with the base resources but i guess you have to be a genius to pull out something cool.
@theadnart15 жыл бұрын
Hi Sharooz! Adnan here, nice to see you around :D Mixer combines both scan-based and procedural techniques in one, layer-based texturing workflow. You can use Megascans textures or create your own textures from scratch then use them in Mixer to blend them. Soon you'll also be able to use Mixer's procedural mask stack to create textures from scratch without relying on any textures, although we do recommend that people use both scans and noises/patterns as Mixer really is made to combine both.

@@theadnart1 I have been sitting here for the last fifteen minutes trying to figure out how to add components to masks. I have downloaded the latest version and I cannot find the "New Tab" add component. It also does not have the three buttons on the top left only two for preview displacement and preview tiling. Some magic here, then some magic there.. The video doesn't explain anything. It is absolutely unclear what this software is really capable of. The demonstrated material can be a result of some happy accidents, but what about real flexibility? Can I make, for example, these shapes more rounded? Can I change the size of individual pieces? Can I change the type of the bevel effect to something different? Please don't be offended. I'm here not for criticizing you. I'm interested in this new software product, but for now it doesn't look convincing enough, sorry. I would appreciate if you clarify how all this works.
@theadnart15 жыл бұрын
Hi Qwerty! Mixer's procedural mask stack is quite flexible, has modifiers like bevel, edge detect, radial scatter, frequency to change the density of the crystals, etc... So you can really do anything you want with it so long as you create a proper layer stack, which is a subject we'll be covering in a tutorial :) This video is just a breakdown that gives people some insight into the creation process of a mix, more detailed tutorials are definitely coming very, very soon! Thanks a ton for the feedback!
