This came out so gorgeous. I need to practice with resin more. I'm not great with it yet. But I ran out of canvases (OH NO) so I have to buy more. Those art supplies sure aren't cheap.

Thanks for the helpful video! I have a question though- does the alcohol not affect the resin curing? It seems like it might make craters in the resin and need another coat over top to smooth it out? I know this video is older but I really hope to get a response! (:

Just found your channel and now binge watching your videos!! Great information! Can you use acrylic paint base paint with the resin? What is the difference between using that and the SC base tints?

Usually yes, but some cure the resin too fast. The SCC base coat is oil based, vs acrylic which is water based. Check out this video where I mix all kinds of things with resin kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnOUiqqJZaitjKc

I have noticed that you usually do the white with the black on top to get cells. Does it work just as good getting cells if you put the black on the bottom and white on top?

hey Marcy....thanks for this informative vid. I'm just about to order both that black and this white base tint. As a first time buyer/and newbie to using a better quality product what would you recommend in addition to these items? I'll be getting the stone coat as well. do they have a beginners kit? there's so much to choose from....it gets a bit overwhelming with trying to make a purchase. thanks in advance

Hey Mary Lou! They don't have a beginners art kit, unfortunately. I would recommend getting the resin, the black and white base tints (those go with everything really) and then maybe 3 or 4 mica powder colors. That should definitely be enough to keep you going for quite some time :)

Fixing to experiment with resin painting, and curious if you paint an acrylic base coat on your canvases before applying resin? Worried the resin will soak through the canvas

If you already have and I've simply forgotten, I apologize now... can you do a test of different colors in alcohol on a black and white only base so we can see how much impact the color had when in the alcohol? Also, do they have to be in a spray bottle or can you just do drops of the alcohol color on top?

@@MixedMediaGirl Like just black and white on the base. Then like you had the teal in the spray bottle, use that method (spray bottle) as the only method to add the other colors... or instead of spraying the colors (or in addition to) use like a dropper (or that type effect) to drip the colors onto the black and white base... To see how much of the color from the alcohol mix shows up and how they mix or blend together... Hope that makes sense 😄 I assume the dropper way will be kind of like the resin coasters but...

I sprayed the alcohol once at the end, it can help create cells and other effects with the resin :)

I love the finish on Stone Coat Resin but I am still on my first bottles but it dried so quickly I had to work so fast I didn't get to experiment. Does it all dry really fast? Or I worried maybe I got an older bottle.

Hey Tara, the art coat has about an hour work time, so if it's curing faster than that you may have the quick coat?

What is your definition of quickly?

@@MixedMediaGirl It was pretty hard within 12-15 min and I couldn't put it on the cup. So I mixed more and felt so hurried to get it on the cup and it was setting up and by 2 hours later it was hard but the cup did come out looking great. I have done cups for about a year now and I have never felt the need to hurry so much. But the finish was pretty great.
