I found your video the day after I've been struggling in how to best embellish a sweatshirt with topstitching type thread. I tried using my Janome cover stitch machine by stitching on the wrong side with the decorative thread in the looper. For a straight line, this worked fine. In trying curves, I drew my lines and covered them with a regular stitch with matching thread on the top and a contrasting thread in the bobbin on my sewing machine. That gave me a guide line to sew with the cover stitch on the wrong side of the fabric. With the small work space I encountered difficulty in controling the path of the cover stitch on the curves. Then I decided to see what I could do with a decorative stitch with my Janome 6600. Again I had trouble following my guide lines. Your video answers my problem for this. THANKS. Now can you make a suggestion for a stitch pattern that would lay as much thread as possible without it burying into the fabric. With the stitch length being fixed at most that I tried at 2 or 2.5, the stitches are being buried into the fabric. With my former Bernina, I could lengthed the stitch length and now I can't.

Hello - glad I could help. I'm not sure which pattern you are attempting to use. From your description i'm guessing a satin zig zag. In Mode 1 or Mode 2 you have pattern #8. Make sure you have a tearaway stabilizer under your base fabric and change the stitch length to ".25" . You should also be using an embroidery thread in the needle to cover completely. Using a Topstitch thread I'm not sure will give you the results you are looking for (satin covered edge?). you can still use the Topstitch thread but you will need to lengthen the stitch as it is a heavier thread.

Thanks for your help. I finished my first project on Janome cover stitch machine using Sulky 12 wt. thread sewing straight lines on wrong side of fabric. Happy with result. Second project, using same thread, stabilizer, stitch #70, and tension set at 2, sewing curves on the right side of the fabric, my thread keeps breaking. I'm going to purchase an embroidery needle today, hoping it will solve my problem. Any other ideas? Thanks.

@@bjmacsmith With a 12wt thread you may want to use a TopStitch size 90 needle with the larger eye

Thanks for your recommendation. Project completed perfectly with a 90 embroidery needle and tear-away stabilizer. 👏👏👏

Where have you been all my life? I now know what that foot is for and I love how your videos present possibilities that other videos don’t. Thank you!

If I’m not mistaken, the machine stops at the end of the current pattern so that you are just doing one at a time.

If you are a referring to an MC7700 model- yes, it has an auto-lock button. Please refer to page 7 of the Instruction Manual.
