I am creating two colorful shade containers for our back porch that will bring us loads of color and interest the entire growing season while complimenting the landscape around them. Just because you have a shady area doesn't mean that you can't have loads of flowers and color!

I’m watching this the first week of June ‘23 in Seacoast NH. I absolutely LOVE the journey I have taken with y’all for the development of your back yard-it’s just BEAUTIFUL! Crazy weather in Michigan, wont be able to plant until hopefully after May 20th. I’ve been volunteering a couple days a week at my local garden center where I did my Master Gardener community service 25 years ago. Just pure happiness, the color and smell oh my.

I'm with ya Jenny! Love the Caladiums!! So many options in colors to choose from and sun or shade. Think they are fabulous for allowing you to have ample color by the entrances to your home without attracting wasps or bees in the entry area.

I also do monoculture plantings in my window boxes. I always use calibrachoa since they like to dry out a bit between watering. Once they fill in they are so gorgeous and make a huge impact when seen from both the inside and the outside.

Ooh! It just occured to me those planter boxes would be nice to grow edibles in. Close to the house to grab some greens for dinner, some herbs. They can even be intermingled with blooming plants.

Jenny, I love watching you plant all those beautiful flowers. It is very inspiring for me. This will be my first flower planting season in a VERY long time. I got very discourage as all my flowers would die.😏 so know I am learning how to take care for my flowers, by watching you and others. My husband thinks I will kill them all, but I am determine to prove him wrong. I never took the time to do the research on taking care of flowers, so I really appreciate these step by step video's. 100% agree about using high quality potting soil. I was using the big name brand potting soil plus their fertilizer and my annuals would struggle so hard at the height of summer and stop blooming. One of my local garden center’s started carrying espoma last year and that’s what I’m getting from now own. And I’ve switched to Jack’s blossom booster. Huge improvement.

Hi Jenny, those containers suit your deck so beautifully. They don’t add more visual weight or take away from the deck boxes you have. Do you find that you have to water them more frequently because the water evaporates more readily through those coir inserts versus other types of planters? 🌸❤️🇨🇦

Beautiful! I looked up the planter: Kinsman Cradle Planter, trough style. The hanging windowbox type are usually called "hay racks"
