One interesting thing with these walls is if you separate the mesh in to individual brick objects re calculate the origins and then add a rigid body simulation it is good for making ruins.
@ArtisansofVaul
@ArtisansofVaul 2 жыл бұрын
Thats a REALLY good call as the slight gaps between the bricks can stop the issue of the physics being confused by slight overlaps/hotlining making everything "explode" outwards. 👍

So I was following the tutorial and starting to add detail, and when I hit Ctrl+A to apply all modifiers, it didn't show up. After a bit of searching the web, I found you can go to Object>Convert>Mesh to apply all modifiers... unsure of all that it does but I found this as a fix... in case someone else has a similar issue.

I knew about this but I never really wanted to use it exactly because you had to manually create the grout. Doing it on something like stairs would be even more of a pain than a place with windows. Now that geometry nodes are here, I'm thinking you could probably look at all the parts, find faces pointing downwards that have other faces pointing upwards very close by, and add in grout-like geometry between them. (Something like inset the first face and extrude it down through the second face.) The other problem with this tool is that different configurations get different brick heights, so if you like that look, you can't make a modular batch of walls that'll fit together after printing; I could probably spend time fixing the add-on to use a fixed pattern of random heights instead. But those are the reasons I haven't really used it much.
@ArtisansofVaul
@ArtisansofVaul Жыл бұрын
For me the windows and stairs would be pretty easy to add grout using boxcutter and probably the most reliable. But doing something with Geometry is an intriguing idea. I'm not totally sure but it may be easier to do it "backwards" and create an object which will effectively be the grout and then have the geonodes create the stones... Not sure though 🤔

A bit out of my knowledge set I'm afraid. I focus on 3D design for 3D printing, not CG work. I believe most people wouldn't add the texture for CG work but instead would just use flat surfaces and apply the UV to that to make it look like bricks.... I can't say I'm totally sure though.

Just in case anyone has the same issue as me. I did this tutorial, sent to my slicer multiple walls, pressed auto arrange on my plate, and it took apart the mesh and placed each brick individually. Ctrl J to join like in the video does not work, with the newest Orca version anyways, you must use Bool Tool or Boolean modifier to union all of the pieces so it is truly 1 single mesh.
@ArtisansofVaul
@ArtisansofVaul 28 күн бұрын
@Jayy8Bit The part at 13.25 talks about using bool tool. Admittedly I said "join" for using the boolean which wasn't the best choice of wording but all of the tools and controls being spoken about there are to complete a boolean.

@riellerthecreeper Ah. If its for rendering that isn't really my thing (that's more CG work than for 3D printing) but I think most wouldn't even bother with the brickwork, they would just put an image of bricks on a flat wall. But I imagine you could add a brick colour/texture to it and then a different texture to any "mortar" in between. You might have to seperate the bricks from one another though if you wanted to use more complex texture mapping (not sure on that)
