Theres a spiritual trap in considering ego as enemy. The , sort of, inner denial that the ego is fully part of the being, creates a painful sense of seperation. Of course its a great step going from completely ego possessed to aware that youre not only your ego, but reinforcing this disdain for ones own ego is a huge obstacle to integrating the ego in the being in a healthy way througn contemplation, can set a person back years

@@viktorfang1234 this "ego is the enemy"...will have you chase your tail for a long time..everytime you slip on the spiritual path, cursing the ego..cursing one's lack of advancement because of the ego..all of that reinforces the ego response and increases psychological tentions in the being..so instead of finding ego balance, you get stuck trying to force it out and that can go on for a long time before you realise

@@SilvrSeven True. Actually when someone says and feels "Ego is enemy" . Actually it's the ego who is cursing the ego. Trapped in timeless Paradox. Ego is an illusion disguised as seperate self. @Math Phile people here ⬆️ are saying 1. that ego is a delusion and, 2.that it needs to be integrated, etc. well, i can't say for them what works or wont work, i only consider the suffering that my ego, the voice in my head causes me.i f thinking, compulsive thinking, the voice in the head is draining my energy, why wouldn't i want to learn how to shut it off if that were possible? & Tolle says that it is possible, i have tried to learn via certain forms of meditation (the Vipassana breath awareness technique, im no authorized to speak for Vipassana, u can look up writings of the sage S.N. Goenka) & some of the methods taught by Tolle, eg. awareness of sensation/breathing, etc. then, all questions concerned with how to regard the ego are made moot, if it isn't constantly affirming & identifying itself as a separate entity, the ego is simply left as an old hollow relic, rusting in the backyard & whether or not to wrestle with it or view it as an enemy would also be rendered obsolete. if it's not controlling you, the ego is harmless, but if u think u have it under control by appeasing it or changing its behavior, i would say it's just going to , as Tolle puts it," come back into power thru a back or side door." i reckon that Tolle knows better than me,🤸🙏☀️🌱🐾👣🌿🌎🕊️🔔

The ego lives in lack. Presence is about innate wholeness in the Now.
@stephencarlsbad
@stephencarlsbad 3 жыл бұрын
We are constantly ebbing and flowing between lack and wholeness. These two states do not exist for very long without the other. Think about it. You get hungry, tired and cold, don't you? Are these 'states of lacking' a creation of ego? No... They are a natural phenomenon. So, we can say... *Ego does not live in lack.* *Ego lives in the harmonious balance between lack and wholeness.* And the correct advice is to balance the ego, do not abandon it. This is probably the advice that Eckhart is espousing even though he isn't saying the words.

The bonus is, I believe the power of presence is imprinted on the work when we do enjoy creating consciously in presence... people see the resultant work and appreciate it in ways they don't even understand consciously. They say things like I don't know what it is about this zxy (piece of art for example) but resonates with me or I am drawn to it. I think it's the oneness of true self in you, connecting with the oneness of true self of the creator of the art, subconsciously realizing the oneness of all beings.

@Terry Lightfoot - I have a history of trying to hard and feeling like I NEED to read more, or meditate more deeply, as well as a list of a few other things. Alot of the problem for me has been these feelings of Needing. Then I end up putting too much value on description and explanation rather than my very own experience. Finding a balance has been important for me which includes, at times, letting my own spiritual journey be just that, my own ! :)

I agree, when I had my "Creative Awakening" I was on fire with delight and very giddy. As I created my art I started becoming obsessed with how it will look like in the end. I noticed less enjoyment during the creative process, I wanted to see the completed project. The ego is insidious, and sneaks in with every available moment. I am still fighting this battle with challenges slowing down the outcome of my intent; especially when big repercussions are possible if things go against the plan. Always a battle.

Because of his realizations that he expounds upon and delivers to us on a "golden platter," he saves us years of needless effort. Suddenly, we find ourselves on a new level that he prepared and we are able to continue our journey of awakening. The purpose of life is not to manifest external things. The purpose of life is to find the source, which permeates everything from within. Being devoid of ego, fully merged into the source, the life force is unleashed within us in a sustained state of sexual ecstasy. Then we fully realize and experience that we need nothing else. External reality is but a vague reflection of the living source, which is the core of our own being. We all carry the greatest treasure of all within ourselves.

Wants are fun, Needs you must have, housing, clothing, food, a means to maintain these things and that was all I found I needed. without wanting I was suddenly being gifted with a house full of furniture, at that time I learned about ''Saying My Thanks''. Thanks to the Universe in Me and Me in the Universe for everything that had happened up to that moment because everything that had happened, good and perceived bad had brought me to the moment of realization and comfort in knowing, I didn't need to have wants, because my needs would always be fulfilled. I still want for nothing, but in a relationship you have to work with your partner to create a Good Life Together. even if they're a major collector of things and you're not. Bigg Huggs for ALL.

Is this how a narcissist views the world? When you’re describing the experience of ego in the human experience, it reminds me of someone who behaves in a manner outwardly similar to what you’re describing inwardly. In other words, is a person who is completely identified with their ego? Because all the qualities of ego that you described is how I understand a narcissist to experience the world.

Need more talk of solution instead of pointing the negative ego... we know all of that... so is the answer just meditation?

Something like that... presence is shifting attention away from thought and into your body. The more frequently you're present the less you become identified with your ego. Over time, when your ego creeps in, you can recognize it more quickly and it diminishes. Suffering is a catalyst to presence because you have a very strong motive to dislodge your identification with negative thoughts and ego.

Awareness, mindfulness, watching it all. That is my understanding of presence. Different guides give it different names. But what else could it be? There is only that one thing. My experience is that sometimes I have attempted to meditate or do asanas or prnayama in order to kill the suffering. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it does not. Which leaves one option: to be present to what is. It is not always easy, far from it. My understanding is also that different guides teachers point out into that direction, work towards taking us into that. Different talks. You write Eckart points a lot to the negative ego. He describes it at length it is true. For one, this negativity cannot be ignored. Then it also makes everybody laughs. Makes it relatable. Just my opinion ok. Comes to my mind that some like the Buddhist put emphasis on compassion, practicing compassion. Maybe it can start at home, towards oneself. Cause this negative mind, we all have. We can hate ourselves for it. Or bring in kindness into that. Am presently very overwhelmed by suffering. It gets scary. But another thing to keep in mind too is ...this shall pass. Everything does. The good the bad and the ugly. Take care, good luck to you.

Dear Administrator, who is probably reading comments and pick some to present to Eckhart! * Please try to get him answer this question: If I decided to serve the ego (once I have no option), could it be the "self" doing it. Always here and now and giving, what the true nature of it. Being more and more conscious about the ego, could lead to a slow separation? * Technically by separating it. They can pick (I decide for them) a goal and I force them to follow, otherwise I cannot serve. One for the Body. One for the Mind. One for the Emotional body. One for the Astral or Etheric body (sexuality and intuition) One for the Pain body (and nerve system) * I imagine as struggle for two reasons. 1) While the Self is not fully separated, it cannot be experienced. The short of it suffering. 2) Non-stop falling back to identify myself with the ego. (Simply just say : I am tired. No, it is the body or the nerve system is overloaded with obsticles) * Thanks!

The issue is not the ego. The ego is a projection/manifestation of the self. A projection has no power to manifest. Only the projector, the self, can manifest. The self is the heart. Everything that comes out of man comes from the heart. It is wicked and deceptive due to our tendency to violate God's Law. Egotism is not separate from the self, but is indicative of decay in the self. Thus all manifestations are the product of sowing to the Flesh (the epigenetic Collective Unconscious) through the self. Sow to the Flesh and you will reap decay. The solution is to believe in Christ so that you may have access to the Holy Spirit through Him. Sow to the Spirit, and reap eternal life (both in quantity and quality). 1) Believe that Jesus the Christ died to pay for your violation of God's Law. What is the Law? To love God (in who's image you were created) with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to love your fellow man as yourself. We have a natural tendency to violate those two principles. Jesus paid for our violations with His the knowledge stored in His heart (Isaiah 53:12). Just believe in Him, and you will be in union with Christ as facilitated by the Holy Spirit. 2) After believing in Christ, every time you commit a new violation, you turn your back on Christ and the Holy Spirit, and you begin to sow to the Flesh again, from which you will reap decay. All you have to do is tell God your sins (1 John 1:9), and you will begin sowing to the Spirit again. 3) Jesus said that to the one having faith, all things are possible. Grow your faith in Christ, and be fulfilled. All of this knowledge is encrypted deeply within our hearts, we simply can't access it without God's help. Its too deep for us to go on our own, without God's light. For, "the lamp of God is the breath of man, searching the hidden chambers of the belly. If you're feeling unfulfilled with your manifestations, then its because you need Christ to restore your heart--the self, with the Word. Eckhart Tolle may mean well, but his advice will only result in self deception, repression, unfulfillment, and ultimately, decay. Ask God for the truth. As above, so below. If you have consciousness, awareness, and sentience, then its because God had it first, and put it in you as a part of His image. This is the truth. See it, realize it, know it, and be set free.

For all of you who touched “inner peace”that eckhart is pointing to but stress “ego” keeps pulling you into his illusive realm of useless thoughts. I advice that you combine both the teachings of Eckhart with the teachings of Mooji...two great men pointing to the same thing but with different approaches..I combined the teachings of the two and I survived probably years of suffering from my ego. Now i’m free, I “beyond the term I ” am happy Sending you all love on your awakening journey

What do you want to manifest? Is not presence completeness? Certainly I AM is. Jesus said: “Take no thought for tomorrow, what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink. Buddha talked about desire and aversion, wanting and not wanting. Manifest this moment, that's all there is, so that's all that is required. Wanting something, not wanting something, will keep you from peace and freedom.

Ego is NOT about incompleteness and does not come from a place of lack! An *unbalanced* ego is a self-perpetuating state of lack. Ego is a state of being that says "I need" aka "I need to take" and "I give" aka "I need to give" or I"'m satisfied..." When your *need to take* is in a healthy balance then you are in harmony with your inner self and those around you and in a more balanced overall state of ego. If you were in an out of balanced "need to take" state of ego then you would look like someone who is usually selfish and is either unintentionally or intentionally a victimizer. When your need "to give" is in healthy balance with your inner self and those around you then this part of your ego is in a healthy balance. Out of balance, the "I give" part of ego gives so much that you then descend into being a martyr or self-created victim. We should never abandon ego. It turns you into a victim in a world full of people who have needs of their own and wether they are balanced people who won't take advantage of you or those who are selfish and will take advantage of you doesn't matter, you will not be able to receive what you need or need to give what you can because you simply don't believe in giving or taking. Of course, this actually never happens and even people who reject ego actually still practice it and subconsciously continue trying to balance it. And instead of acknowledging this, they simply live in a delusion that they have transcended the potential ills of an unbalanced ego by rejecting the conceptualization of ego altogether aka they have chosen to be blissfully unaware. Example: When you have a medical emergency, does the universe send the medical industry to your doorstep ready to treat and cure you, or do you actively TAKE the opportunity to call them and *state your needs* by putting yourself at the top of their list of people to be treated first so that you don't die? Calling 911 in this situation is an example of a balanced act of ego aka "I need" or " more specifically, "I need to take". If you don't take/claim their limited time and resources to save your life by putting yourself in line ahead of others who have non-life-threatening emergencies then you would die and therefore, abandon your own needs because you do not believe in ego in the first place. The ego was never meant to be repressed, ignored or abandoned as a means of purifying the world of selfishness, aggression, need or conflict. Doing so just ensures that people without a balanced egos continue getting what they want, and more often, whenever they want in an unchecked and unbalanced way. And that is not healthy for you, us or them. Sometimes conflict is the unavoidable remedy that ultimately can and often does lead to a greater balance of egos.

In other words: Do what gives you joy and live in the moment. Angst is a condition of the modern era. We’ve evolved over millions over years to work for survival. We have not evolved to be happy and fulfilled in the space of time it took for us to build our society. We have achieved this in most places today. If you look at every generation of the modern era there is an increasing occurrence of depression, anxiety and suicide among young people. The predominance of these occupancies are in the middle class on up, not the under socio-economic classes. Why? The world doesn’t seem real, yet it is very real to someone that doesn’t have access to regular food, clothes and shelter. Survival or subsistence living strips away all superficial layers of modern life that we may not be fully equipped to handle. And of those that seem like they’re “handling” it many may not yet be aware of the personal burdens they feel. Very few, see the world for what it is and are still able to cope with our anachronistic place in it. We changed nature by building cities. We no longer follow our basic instincts. Things are too easy. We are built for overcoming challenges in a time when there are fewer of them.

Ego is just a cultural creation. Its all you. Don't fragment yourself. Be total. Don't repress that simply leads to deviation. Integrate be total. If he mastered what he calls his ego he would not have to attempt to change the world he would recognise how perfect it is. Namaste.
