Thank you for the step by step tutorial. I kept pausing the video - step by step - to follow your magic. I had a hard time wrapping my brain around it before I found you. You made it easy. I added a colorful pocket to a black wool jacket but added a couple of inches of the black wool to the edge of the pocket going on the side seam. I wanted to avoid a pop of color peeking out. It worked very well. I am definitely subscribing as you certainly know your stuff.

Thank you so much for this excellent clear and concise tutorial. I've just finished a three-quarter length coat, in which I would of liked to of had inseam pockets but as I had never done them before, I put patch pockets on instead and although they do look lovely, I am just about to start making a full length version of the pattern in some gorgeous woollen tweed and will definitely be putting inseam pockets in it, thanks to you sharing your skills. I'm so glad to of found your KZbin channel. Thanks a million

Thanks for providing this video. There aren’t a lot of tutorials explaining how to sew in seam pockets using an overlocker/serger. I like your method is it looks a bit “safer” than trying to manoeuvre the serger around the outer edge of the material with pockets already attached to main garment. I guess the only issue with this method is that as each fabric edge is serged separately do you end up with two layers of serger stitching sitting on top of each other?. Does this potentially create some extra bulk in the seams? If so, would you recommend a smaller 3 thread stitch?
@HouseofMissSew3 жыл бұрын
I’m glad you liked the video 😊 It’s definitely much easier to edge finish everything first to save any accidents with the cutting knife when overlocking. You could definitely use a 3 thread narrow stitch to cut down on the bulk.

Thank you so much for this great video!! I am about to make some DIY pajamas, how far down from the waist should you start a pocket?
@HouseofMissSew3 жыл бұрын
They should be close to your hips. Hold up the pattern to yourself and decide where you’d want the pocket opening to be, and then measure. 😊
@ImGinaMarie3 жыл бұрын
@@HouseofMissSew ok I have been under the impression that pockets are attached along the waistband thank you
@HouseofMissSew3 жыл бұрын
@@ImGinaMarie they may be attached from the waistband but the opening for the pocket will be lower down the side seam. The ones I show in this video attach to the side seam only but many PJ, skirt and trouser patterns join the top of the pocket to the waistband. There’s no definite rule, just depends on preference.
@ImGinaMarie3 жыл бұрын
@@HouseofMissSew Thank you I just don't want to screw them up even though they are PJ's!! LOL Have a wonderful holiday and be safe!! You have been very kind to answer so quickly and completely! New subscriber for sure!!
@HouseofMissSew3 жыл бұрын
@@ImGinaMarie you’re welcome! I often find that when the pockets are attached at the waistband it can add extra bulk but depends on the thickness of the fabric and also how your waistband is formed. If you’re planning to fold over the top edge to create a casing/elasticated waistband it’s best to add the pockets only at the sides. If you’re attaching a separate casing/ waistband you can choose to either extend the pocket piece to the waist, or not.

this is a very helpful video! but how would I add this to a skirt?
@HouseofMissSew6 жыл бұрын
Jody Breland you would need to cut a pattern for the pocket pieces - use your hand as a guide for size and the pattern shape on the video as reference. Then attach these to the side seams of the skirt about 6cm down from the top edge of the garment.

I had a jumper size down and the Tailor sewed up my pocket. How can I reopen the pockets?
@HouseofMissSew2 жыл бұрын
If the pocket is still there and there's enough of the pocket bag left after the alteration to make it worthwhile, start by reinforcing the stitching above and below what will become the pocket opening (go back and forth over the existing stitches at the top and the bottom of the pocket on the side seam). Once this is complete you should be able to open the stitches across the pocket opening without the rest of the seam coming undone.
