Shit up all the prequels 1 rating with Phantom menace in C with return of the Sith in low A then I'd agree as yes the original episode 4 to 6 is far better then the prequels 1 to 3. Phantom menace had flaws but at least it felt like a stars wars movie unlike anything Disney released except (Solo: A Star Wars Story) as that is a B as that or clone wars movie is sort of a tie as I'd watch either but are not my immediate picks. Force awakened is a flat D & frankly not worth watching & what I saw of rogue one is high F while fallen order is low C but rise of sky walker that I watched on double speed sciking sections as it was painful is worse then F. I wish I could wipe what little I remember of Rise of Skywalker from memory but all my mind tells me is no no no no no! Newer stuff up to date cinematics blind you to how truly awful the plot, script & acting truly is. Mandalorian is an odd one as it started low B in the 1st few episodes then decline quickly in season 1 to D but by season 2 is an F which I couldn't even finish with no interest of ever picking it up again. My ow my is Asoka F tier. Never watched rebels animation so no comment as no idea? Not seen resistance, Bad batch, visions, book of Boba Fett, Andor or Obi-Wan Kenobi (miniseries) I'm going to try visions, Andor & the Obi-Wan Kenobi (miniseries) but I don't have much hope as you doll out (S Tiers) way to easily You literally gave 5 of 25 Star wars IP's an S that 20% which few franchises get that sort of ranking. Either visual blind you or you like star wars so much it blinds you to obvious flaws. Phantom Menace is really not as bad a fans claim but my was it is a low compared to the original trilogy. We agree perfectly on the original trilogy but your other rankings are F'ed of what I have seen.

There are multiple opinions that I disagree with heavily and then there's some where I think you were spot on. The only compliment I can give you is I've never seen someone with a similar ranking. Even though I dislike the last jedi I can respect you liking it as a star wars movie but imo it is not a well written movie.

I thought The Mandalorian started out alright when it was a show about a guy and a baby Yoda having adventures and I thought it was going to evolve into a show about trying to get baby Yoda back to his home planet whilst being pursued by bad guys. But then every single Dave Filoni character ever (all of whom apparently decided to sit-out the Galactic Civil War) turns up and instead of fun adventures we get weird Mandalore... lore... and POV shifting that makes it impossible to care about anything or anyone because you're never sure who you're rooting for and what their motivations are.

On topic but off point if you know what I mean. I actually love tier lists and icebergs. Although I love Sci-fi I've and like most of it, I've never been a huge Star Wars fan. Saying that, Return of the Jedi is one of my favourite movies of all time, It was the first one I saw when I was younger and it was the only one that we had recorded off TV on VHS. (Yes that's how old I am) I watched it over and over again. I love how the story develops. The tense Drama of Jabba's palace, dispersed with action, the barges at the sarlac pit, reuniting with the fleet. The space battles, the parallel action on Endor, Luke's personal journey.

You and I don’t often disagree about Star Wars (although there are one or two elements), but it’s great whether your opinion is the same OR different to mine. When it’s different, I enjoy hearing a different perspective (also articulated in a thoughtful way), so keep doing you, Joe. Love these videos!

I was very nervous about where Return of the Jedi would land (it's a lonely world for RotJ stans) but A is a respectable place to be. I maintain that it is still the best trilogy finale and that no subsequent space battle ever looked as good as Endor. Battle of Exegol in TRoS is a textbook example of where RotJ could have gone wrong but didn't. Star Wars Visions got me to watch The Secret of Kells, which is now one of my favorite animated films, so I am forever in Visions' debt for that. I really enjoyed it during its first season, before it got bogged down in other Star Wars content. When it first started, I got the sense that the first three episodes were to set up why these two characters were together and then it would be “Mando and Baby Yoda go on fun adventures, collecting bounties and saving the day”, like a sort of Firefly set in the Star Wars universe vibe. My favourite episode was the one where a group of bandits are terrorising a small town with an AT-ST and Din comes to town and teaches them to fight back. Proper old Western stuff (and incidentally not dissimilar to Heart Of Gold from Firefly). There was a good run of story-of-the-week episodes like that (the aforementioned one, the bounty on Fennec Shand, The prison break-in) before it got to the finale and I genuinely thought that it was going to be more like that - slow burn, taking its time to build up these characters and showcase more of the Star Wars universe. However, much as season 2 felt mostly fine at the time, it definitely started to telegraph that it wasn’t going to be a show with that kind of patience. Season 3 is just garbage, no further comment required.

I never watch star wars youtubers, much less ranking videos, so I was pleasantly surprised when I found myself saying “Exactly, Exactly, He gets it!” at loud when you talked about Mando. I pretty much agree with everything you said about Mando. I thought I was the only one who never got the hyped and thought it has always been “ok”. Glad to have found my people! :D Funny enough, I also found Obi Wan Kenobi to have so much heart and emotion that, in my case, it allows me to ignore the bad production value around it. I can even say it’s my favorite of all just because of how much I love the story they told and the characters, especially Little Leia and Reva. Tbh, I found all sw shows made in LA to look bad. I don’t know if it’s the lack of scenery or the chunky costumes that always take me out of it. The quality change between the British productions and LA is crazy! (And in case someone comes and says “Mando season 1 looked good!” yeah that was 2 season of mando and 3 other shows ago, it’s been dire ever since i fear :( )
@Joe_Brennan_6 ай бұрын
I’m so glad you mentioned the LA vs UK distinction in these productions. It’s so stark. Pinewood productions have access to all the creature shop work that was done for the sequels, while the California shows seem to opt for rubbery imitations. I also find that the LA shows tend to cast comedians and former wrestlers in supporting roles, where Andor is bringing in classically trained actors who are fantastic at doing their specific thing.

hard agree to almost everything here. the dissonance between all the "haha clones wars is a KIDS show but it has torture >:)"moments and the way that the characters still talk in really simplistic and direct ways is really jarring imo. the force awakens feels so troubled in the abstract but it undeniably has the sauce. visions in s is so based, especially in season 2. though the hate for mandalorian is a little wild to me. that show gets really bad in places (season 3 was like unwatchable, and roboluke feels like a grotesque parody of the current pop-culture ouroboros), but is mostly a chill silly show with good effects that passes the time ok

It’s saddening because it makes everything else retroactively that little bit worse, especially VII and VIII. Had this one stuck the landing, the sequel trilogy could have been an utter triumph. It bums me out that that isn’t how it went. Whatever happens though, I’ll still have my memories of being so excited by episode VII in 2015 that I saw it in the cinema 5 (count it) times.

Can you do an in depth video on why Prequel era content was rated so low? As a Legends fan of Star Wars before the Disney acquisition, I found the prequel era to be the golden era of Star Wars content overall. So many different stories came out from the prequel era that enriched the time of the Clone Wars. For example, Star Wars Clone Wars video game, Star Wars Battlefront 1 Pandemics and Star Wars Battlefront II Pandemics along with Star Wars Republic Commando, KOTOR, KOTOR Sith Lords, Star Wars Battlegrounds Saga, and Lego Star Wars. The Prequel Era even the impact of the prequels even had a story narrative influence upon games that would delve into stories post ROTJ into the EU through the Jedi Outcast games and Jedi Knight Jedi Academy. Not to mention the significance and relevance the Clone Wars had that played into Legends Era's Galactic Empire.

7:05 I find I always go back and forth between TPM and AOTC on which one is the worst. I'd say they're pretty interchangeable in terms of how bad they are but for different reasons. For one thing, I kind of feel like AOTC should've to a degree been Episode I since this story is all about showing Anakin Skywalker and his fall while TPM feels kind of like a weird prologue to the whole saga. Like it's not Episode I, it's Episode 0 and of the two films? There's a lot I can see Lucas was going for that is just hurt by bad writing and to a degree questionable editing in AOTC while TPM is just dull for most of the runtime. Plus I find there's a lot more to like about AOTC from the espionage bit with Obi-Wan, seeing the beginning of the Clone Wars to some genuinely interesting characters like Dooku. But there's also a lot from AOTC that just does not work for me. It's still incredibly boring, there are a lot of ideas that are literally explained in one sentence in just an episode of a TV show better than a whole 2-hour movie can manage whereas with TPM? There's still the opening scene and the climax, I do feel Qui-Gon while all his stuff should've gone to Obi-Wan that he's a fairly interesting character at least in terms of ideas and I'll just say it has one of the best OSTs of any of the films. 10:31 I'm glad someone said it. TCW is a series that really takes many seasons to get great. I'd never say it's bad necessarily in the early parts, there's a lot I like but there's nothing that's amazing. I'd say it really picks up at the end of Season 2 and especially in Season 3 because it finds its footing, the actors have clearly evolved, there's maturity and consistency to the stories being told. It kind of flounders a bit because while I think the Netflix season is still good? It definitely has that vibe of being just episodes that they could complete being presented and doesn't really feel like a proper ending which Season 7 thankfully corrects and yes the dialogue could struggle at points because obviously it's being really held back but I think especially compared to other Star Wars cartoons and for what it presents as a show for kids? Kids got some good Star Wars. Rebels I would agree is definitely more consistent. I think it helps in particular that rather than kind of presenting one era as a whole and jumping between characters it has one clear narrative with a group of new characters we follow with the returning ones we get being characters who at the time at least did not have clear fates meaning there's stakes and tension. I really do like it. 13:20 I share those vibes. I think TFA is, for that time, a perfect movie. Not perfect in terms of quality obviously because it has problems, it is derivative to a degree of ANH, it definitely really is driven by the desire to not be like the prequels in how it just does not want to set up the state of the galaxy and there's other stuff but indeed, it's a fun time to watch. What we needed in 2015 was a good classic Star Wars adventure, something that would let us know Star Wars is in good hands and the one-two punch of this and Rogue One a year later which does have a different vibe was a good idea because setting aside how the latter kind of peeters a bit with time? It allowed us to quickly understand that these new Star Wars films weren't aiming to just give us nostalgia constantly. 17:43 Solo's fun. It is the perfect B-tier Star Wars movie for me. If I just watch it? I am entertained, it's fun, it's a very easy watch. I personally think any time it's just a fun space adventure with a young Han Solo I really love it. It's all the moments it's just a Han Solo origin or is trying to set up story stuff that is not gonna be followed up on that I kind of struggle with. 19:49 I... really did not like Resistance. I watched both seasons in a big watchthrough of TCW, Rebels and this and to be fair, maybe I need to at some point just watch it on its own but I feel like Resistance is frustrating because when it's good? It's really freaking good. It has to me one of my favorite styles for a Star Wars cartoon, I love getting anything set in the sequel era because I just really like this era and feel it could use a lot more expansion, it has great designs and episodes that are a ton of fun. Where it struggles is that while it's geared towards a younger audience, this kind of feels the most like it's trying to be a Disney Channel show set in the Star Wars universe. Most of its comedy doesn't hit for me, Kaz as a main character kind of feels like he's bootleg Sokka where they want to show he's capable while still goofy but they don't exactly nail those vibes. That being said, hardly the worst thing in the world. 23:01 TROS is an interesting one for me. I'd say as a movie, it's a good time with great action, a great soundtrack, some really cool new worlds and ideas, as far as the bad idea of Palpatine being brought back is concerned I think they did the absolute best job they could and the Carrie Fisher stuff while wonky at the very least is done the best it can be and there are developments I like or at least don't mind. I think my problem with TROS is that when I think about it for any length of time? It's a frustrating movie because this thing NEEDED more delays and script revisions. Hell I don't even think getting J.J. back was bad, their decision to try and keep with Leia being in this film and only hit that December date utterly kneecapped it. I think if it was delayed, while it does mean it would've run into the pandemic? I think that extra time would've benefit them since it could be dedicated to the script and really working out what a proper finale would've been or hell, maybe they could've seen this as being less a finale and more the beginning of a finale like I don't think there needed to be this strict dedication to it being a trilogy because as is? It's clear that Carrie Fisher's death threw everything into a frenzy and I feel J.J. was really kind of forced into making a safe movie. Funnily enough, it kind of combines the problems of the final films of both previous trilogies. It has the issues of ROTJ which clearly was not meant to be the final film and kind of just rushes things to an enjoyable but very safe conclusion but it also suffers from ROTS's problems of being very rushed but having some truly standout scenes that make it hard to completely despise. Like I would say it's more a low D for me. To just quote Caddicarus from his Letterboxd review. "Equal parts badly paced, terribly contrived and cheesy. Equal parts heartfelt, beautifully filmed and epic. Star Wars is now Kingdom Hearts. Didn’t see that coming." 25:08 I really like The Mandalorian but I also am at odds with it. I think the show when it's just about Din and his little green son going on adventures? It's fun, it's enjoyable, it's a good piece of side content. I really can't stand how Star Wars seems to think that interconnectivity just immediately makes for better shows and honestly I think this and the last few episodes of The Book of Boba Fett made me realize that Dave Filoni really needs somebody with him to argue with and just tell him no on points. The man is a great storyteller, he really knows how to make moments hit and how to make earlier episodes that you might initially just think of as dumb fluff feel important in a grand tale at just the right moments but it's clear he's a hardcore Star Wars fan that really loves this franchise when it's super connected and frankly his style of storytelling is starting to get so tiring from him injecting Ahsoka into places that even she doesn't belong in and just this constant desire to keep having connections and you pair him up with Favreau who is a good director but maybe not necessarily the strongest writer and someone that seemingly really is a Star Wars fanboy for specifically the OT and old EU stuff, you have a problem. I think using The Mandalorian as a means of providing a launchpad for other Star Wars projects that will come together for a big event is a good idea. The Mandalorian being involved with this stuff I think will just hurt it more than anything.

(Apart from andor, ashoka and the ot) this is the worst take on star wars i think i have ever seen, but i guess we can have our own opinions. The last jedi in s tier tho... its one of the worst films i have ever seen, completely destroyed the franchise

Sorry but your list is trash. Here's the REAL definitive tier list: S: The Clone Wars series, Revenge of the Sith A: Bad Batch, Tales of the Jedi, Attack of the Clones, The Phantom Menace B: Rebels, Young Jedi Adventures, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka, A New Hope, Return of the Jedi, The Clone Wars Movie C: The Force Awakens, Mando, Andor, Empire Strikes Back, Rogue One D: The Rise of Skywalker, Solo, Resistance, Book of Boba Fett F: The Last Jedi

Criticising mando for having shit dialogue and characters (true) but then having Obi Wan and Bad Batch in B tier is genuinely astonishing to me like what??? Also rogue one is the most fun Star Wars film since ROTS and shud be A tier as should ROTS Also I love the last Jedi but there’s no way it’s any higher than B or maybe A tier

The Bad Batch doesn't even have bad dialogue, and the characters are far better than Mando. It is what Mando wants to be

That’s the beauty of these lists. We’re all going to have different ideas to greater or lesser degrees. Like, I agree with you (I think) that Kenobi was higher on this list than I’d put it, but I also disagree about Rogue One (which I’ve watched once and never watched again) and that’s totally cool. I think Joe was pretty clear that it’s fine if you enjoy the things he’s criticising (he even says he’s happy for us if we get something out of it, and that’s a pretty good faith/good natured way of talking about these things). I too think it’s great if you loved Rogue One. There are definitely things IN IT that I love (K-2SO is a very fun character and Alan Tudyk elevates everything that he’s ever been in).

@@danthomassolo lowkey i love it because I find it so much fun and to me is the only Disney Star Wars that captures the goofiness of the OT and prequels So many of the line deliveries are just so weird and funny or melodramatic or just soooo quotable “Are we BLIND deploy the garrison !” Like idk why that line just gives me an immediate boost of dopamine it’s just how the actor performs it And that weird hilarious way some background character shouts “what is she proposing?!?” While Jyn is making her big speech is just so funny to me and feels so authentically Star Wars in how silly and dramatic it is

@@buckfastbjork6968that’s so interesting, because the reason I didn’t like it was how “not-fun” it felt to me. I think it was partially because of my expectations going in (and that’s not really the movie’s fault). I don’t know why, but I was expecting a heist movie, like an Ocean’s Eleven in space vibe and instead got what felt to me like a really miserable war film. YET…I love Andor and you can hardly call that a feel-good show. Go figure!
