With the greatest respect, I do wish you had "asked" not "told" Phil about technical aspects of the design like motor windings for example. Then his reply to a lot of your "tells" would have been most enlightening. He is the Chief Designer / Engineer afterall. Otherwise an interesting video listening to what Phil had to say about his design.

Great video, really goes to show how much work goes into the design of these models. Perhaps those who are quick to judge about models should take heed.

Interesting video. I have got two of these new black 5s. One normal one and the Web exclusive one. They both do seem a little light on weight as I can't get them to haul a black 5 size train. As you have put one together how easy would you say it might be to add extra weight? I have to say the detail on them is amazing which is fantastic

Brilliant video Jenny! Well done! Sadly I see the knockers are out in force again in the comments, without any real knowledge of how and what manufacturers can do when making these models for us! Models have come a long way, over the years and will continue to do so. I look forward to receiving my Black five with smoke generator! 😊

I’m very keen to get a Black Five for my layout so that heritage locomotives are in use rather than just Southern Railway steam locomotives. It’s good to have a selection.

Sorry Jenny but a Frustrating video!!! Whenever anybody from Hornby talks about the new Black Five and the amount of research that has gone into it why is some of the detail incorrect and even some of the very basic areas of a Black Five clearly not been studied to produce an accurate model??? Over scale lamps and a very large gap between engine and tender are one thing covered by most KZbin channels. But the areas of detail such as the bogie wheel profile, the gap between the running plate and boiler should not be there, incorrect pipe work detail, incorrect brake shoes and hangers, ash pan actuator should not be present on an early Black Five. Hornby were given all of this information in the development stage of this model. Also using preserved examples carries risks as many of the preserved Black Fives can have many differences from an engine as built or during its in traffic career. I do not like being negative and no doubt I will be labelled as a rivet counter, but most of these issues are basic. Hornby have produced some good models previously and they have said many time that this model will be the ultimate black five well it is not. Hornby need to do much better as there competition is capable of developing models far more accurately and they listen to feedback and act on it. Having researched Black Fives & 8Fs for over 30 years or so I was sure Hornby would deliver a really good Black Five but sadly not.

@@LNER985 instructive criticism is not a bad thing, this model needs some of that. While it’s great to talk about what is good about a product, it is also important to say what a product doesn’t do well, otherwise what’s the point in reviewing a product? When looking at reviews customers are trying to see wether a product is good or not, and if people are hiding issues with a product that are crucial, then that review isn’t exactly helpful, in fact it might convince a customer to think that a naff product is good and result in a customer buying garbage, exactly what a customer is trying to avoid by watching a review.

@@modelrailfan37 This is liberty the third video of Jenny he has posted the exact same comment and is refusing to accept the fact that the new black 5 is a good model. People like him will criticism Hornby but won't criticism Rapido UK or Accurascale.
