Creative Studio Lighting
Welcome to the new year. It’s time to start getting creative with your studio portrait work. What better way to get started than to just get out there and practice with studio lighting?
When it comes to studio work, your lighting is the number one thing that will bring your vision to life. Do you want a look that is dark and dramatic? Or do you want something a little more bright and airy? That is up to you to decide and there’s only one way to figure out what your style is: Experiment with new lighting setups until you find your look.
Grab a friend, hire a model, use a mannequin, it doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is that you invest some time to understand artificial light and practice your craft until you feel confident.
In this shoot, check out how this creative portrait session was brought to life with three lights: The Westcott FJ400 with the Rapid Box Switch Octa-M as the main light, the Westcott FJ200 as an edge light, and the FJ80 on the background to create a natural vignette.

I follow what you wanted. It's a good idea. I can see her in a '30s or '40s era retro shoot. That'd be good. Maybe even a '20s flapper girl. Her face and look easily fit fantasy settings. * The Godox lights I use do the same things. The V1 speedlight has a kit of magnetic barn doors, grids, diffusers, etc. that work well. Westcott is a good brand though.

Hey Alissa, didn't know you guys did other stuff before you had your name channel. I know you shoot profoto or Sal does but here in Australia they are even more expensive. Just dropped a bunch of cash for a set of FJ80s and accessories. I like the UI it looks simple on my brain lol 🤣. How did you find them? I normal wouldn't ask something like this in a video like this but there is not to many FJ80 vid reviews. Cheers

@@Behindtheshutter1 Hello, an apology for my abrupt comment, for wanting to be direct I expressed myself in a very rude way. When I said boring, I mean that he goes to great lengths to explain the creative process, which is what happens with other authors and professionals who have their KZbin channels to explain their processes. Personally, I prefer that they be concrete, yes explaining but trying to go to the point that can make the video boring. When I saw the video on KZbin, I saved it to watch it at a time when I was calm enough to do so and I couldn't see it in its entirety without getting ahead of myself to get to how I performed the technique in the studio. Greetings and again a heartfelt apology.
