I stumbled onto this video; my goodness brother where in the hell have you been all my life?!! I really really learned something today and just couldn't get someone to dumb down so that I could follow you as you went along. I have way too many midi devices and have always felt intimidated b/c I thought it would take some massive amount of time to get down. But in ONE setting? Thank you brother, thank you! Please send more 'moments with you' lol.

Great relaxed, but very informative teaching style. I’ve tried a few DAW’s but can’t settle on one, which is obviously important to do if you want to learn it well. I think I may have finally decided to settle on studio One because it has such a clean and clear look to it. These videos are really helping, thank you.

Always a pleasure Mike. Thank you! NOTE-I have never seen this information in any manual or video: If you are importing a MIDI file that was recorded on a DAW not using a click (free loose tempo jazz, etc) you must have your DAW set to the same tempo as the DAW it was recorded on even if that tempo has nothing to do with the approximate tempo of the performance.

Velocity is NOT volume :) Velocity, effects volume, but velocity is how hard the the instrument is hit. Normal velocity in your V.S.T. is 100 for each note. Higher numbers hit the note harder and lower numbers hit the note softer. This is important because velocity changes the performance far more than volume. Don't use velocity to control volume. Bad idea. I am not criticising this helpful video, just trying to add to it. Maybe it is covered in another Creative Sauce (love that name) episode.

This was so well presented! I learned a lot, but I'm still having quite a lot of difficulty getting my Studio One DAW (Artist) to talk to my midi yamaha keyboard. It used to work, but now it doesn't any more and I don't know what I did differently, except I have a new computer (PC) Also, when I double click in the midi editing window of the midi track, it doesn't place a new note, the way it does for you. Can you recommend anywhere I can turn for troubleshooting these problems or to get some one on one help?? thank you!

@JohnDeCarteretElvis
@JohnDeCarteretElvis 4 жыл бұрын
A third way and the fastest and quickest to enter the Edit Window is simply to 'Double Click' on the Midi Clip itself. That opens up the Edit Window and you're immediately ready to go.. Instruments you don't have to drag it all the way across, you can just drop it either on the mixer or the track Window and it will automatically set it up for you as well. The same goes for creating effects to which you're going to use Send. Drag and drop straight onto the mixer and done. NIce clear explanations of how things work, a little slow for my liking, but explained well. thanks.

Hi mike Thank you for your videos. It has really helped me to start up. I am using Korg pa 600 keyboard as midi controller in studio one. However the keyboard keys are not syncing with the virtual instrument keyboards of the DAW. When I press the C1 on my keyboard it produces the sound on the C3 on the virtual instrument. C6 to B6 produces the sounds from C2 to B2 on the VI. C4 to B5 produce no sound. Could you help me to trouble shoot this problem. Is there a way to programme the external keyboards key to the virtual instrument keys in studio one?

Hi Olivier. I have a little explanation about why I use both on my website here (www.creativesauce.net/why-i-use-cakewalk-and-studio-one/). I'm a little hesitant to compare, as one is free and the other costs several hundreds of dollars. I will say however, that I found going from Cakewalk to S1 fairly painless, having used Cakewalk for 20 years or so. Certainly you should expect that Studio is, and can be used for professional releases, and then again, its quite possible to do that in Cakewalk :)

Great Info and well explained. Somewhat related question please: I imported Midi Files of a song into Studio One 5. Then I assigned instruments from the Studio One Instruments list (located in the browser) to the tracks. When I click Play, the meters are moving for each Midi track, but no audio from my Laptop is playing. It's just dead silent. Speakers are on, nothing muted etc, but no sound. Would you have a video on this subject or can you offer any advice as to what is not set correctly. Thanks. Phil NYC Area

Hi Mike, I'm Jan and I hope you're well 😁. Love your down to earth vids on home studio recording. I stepped into DAW style recording with your cakewalk vids But switched to presonus as a result of getting the artist version with my interface. Love studio one (had to upgrade to pro for the vst support I collected while using cakewalk) so I'm grateful that your tutorials have moved to studio one as well. Hope youll come round to an in depth piece of the chord track and the cord selector interface and all it can do. Ive done Everything you asked for: subscribed, rang the Bell and disliked twice 😉👌. Ti ringrazio di cuore e auguro all the best!

hi Mike, have i got a question for you :-) its about the velocity curve of a midi keyboard,i have the beautiful sounding lap steel guitar from indiginus,this instrument uses velocity mapping to swich between 3 different articulations without using keyswitches,my Roland A-49 keyboard has different fixed velocity curves,i tried every one,but only seem to get 80% max velocity,in fl studio i have set another velocity curve manually,this solved the problem,but i cant seem to find a changeable velocity curve in studio one,or did i mis it?,cheers m8
