Probably the 36 minutes with the highest learning outcome for me, so far, being quite new to CbB. You're an incredible instructor/teacher, explaining things in a way, and level, that makes it so easy to understand. Never too much, too fast or too complex - just perfect. Thank you for this one!

I was a touring and working drummer for over 39 years. I always wished I could write music, but not playing a stringed instrument made it very hard to convey my ideas to other musicians. This is fantastic = but useless unless you know what you're doing. The matrix is the best way for me to work out ideas quickly, and spend the most time in piano roll editing and layering effects Thank You!!

In ableton you can record new cells as well as start and stop existing cells during the performance. I don’t think you can do that here but I’d love it you could tell me I’m wrong

with start/stop i think it works as shown (by pressing the arrow or trigger with the midi pad) to record (live) the cell content, it will be hard as here only the assign content functionality get provided.

Maybe a Novation launchpad would make sense in combination with this feature. Especially for people who had some experience with loop stations. Coz you get this device used starting 60 EUR/U$ This feature is interesting mostly for people who do not work with an arranger keyboard as well. As I do compose mostly the basics of the Sound carpet on my Yamaha Genos, where you already have a lot of styles with up to 8 "tracks": drums, bass, rhythm, harmonic, pads and other. using a lot of voices from this instrument, for me it is "nice to know". I am used also of this working model, as the keyboard has "multi pads" which are more a less what this matrix does. But, clearly, not everybody is able to spend 4k EUR for an instrument if its only foreseen for recording. Anyhow, I might test this way to work using Cakewalk as a loop station for any kind of "dancing" production. We'll see.

Terrific presentation. One question: how did the audio tracks get "fit" to exactly the correct amount of time? Did you trim them before using them, or do they get automatically "fit" to the time of the matrix cells?

Hi Mike : I already had read Matrix View on manual twice. Also made a summary for consultation, but know what mode to choose and how to organize thinking, is another thing. Still have to get used to it; it's a question of workflow. Thank you for this video.

Nice video, Mike. I hope you're all healthy down there. This matrix thing is very similar to what you see in Ableton Live. But it seems very useful to me. I am also thinking of something that I am not meant to do. It often happens to me that I have an idea in my head that I can't really play yet. Stupid, I know, but this is what's happening to me. But I could respond to parts that I could then link. I have some thinking to do about this...

This seems very similar to Ableton (though I've not used either). I presume the easiest way to trigger the "pads" would be with a pad controller? I'd love to see something like this in Studio One. Anyway, great video - thanks Mike.

I really love your videos, Ive been composing non stop on Cakewalk since seeing them. I have a midi keyboard, a Donner Spacline dmk. I really want to map sounds to the keys, and the pads. and I was wondering if you could do a video that would help out. it is my understanding, cakewalk can't do this. Midi mapping I guess. But I want to be able to fully use the keyboard.

As always, great video! I did wonder two things that maybe are self evident. 1) when you hit one cell and it’s looping, do you have to hit the next row cell right in the best or does it join at next start of loop? 2) when recording audi such as the guitar, recording onto a track, What if you need to record over two, or three measures, if I then drag it down how does it sync?
@davidlincolnbrooks
@davidlincolnbrooks Жыл бұрын
I'm guessing that each loop in a particular COLUMN must have identical measure length? ie., one loop of music? Or maybe the function is "smarter" than that, and can adapt if loops are mismatched in length? Also, I'm not 100% sure who Matrix Mode is aimed at exactly... I guess it's chiefly for the person who knows no music or plays no instrument... haha? (I'm not being snide, just trying to understand...).

Interesting! Well I guess so. You really only need to assign some sounds to keys on s keyboard pr drom pad. It may not be the most elegant solution, but hey, it would work!

Very similar to Ableton's Clip Launcher. I think FL has a feature like this as well, but you need an Akai Fire to use it. Studio One just added a feature like this too, but I think Ableton pioneered it.
